  1. I really would like to finish at .500, to know we did improve somewhat. But I know that getting top 10 protected pick would help us a lot more. gulp.
  2. I forgot what Nate looked like pitching. Missed the weekend.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) Outgoing, not incoming would be my guess. Yeah. have some decent arms coming up for bullpen, if petricka/putnam have any A-level live arms may be worth it.
  4. going to guess it's bullpen
  5. ah. That's not as fun as football.

  7. Since we have nothing else to talk about, anyone want to explain what the spreads on baseball mean? Does that mean you are betting sox win by 2 runs or more, or angels at 1 run or win?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) There is a big reveal that still needs to happen for him. There is something big there we don't know about. Pretty good point.
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Get in where ya fit in. Soooo many potential OLBs on the roster that I'm not really surprised. Can't carry them all. No I get that, but Young was probably the only defensive player who played above expectations last year. On our boring, predictable pass rush he was able to beat the tackle consistently. Just sucks for him, but obviously great hearing Houston is rejuvenated.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) He and Sandy Alomar have been passed over so many times, you can't help but wonder what fatal flaw teams are seeing, that we aren't. It reminds of the Thibs situation to be honest. NBA seems the opposite of NFL to me, where teams are so nervous to hire the unsure thing that they hire retread managers over and over. MLB to me is the middle, so it really is odd to me this Martinez/Alomar business. I wonder if they don't play the game with management well.
  11. It's crazy all the rumors about Willie Young not making the final 53. Shows how crazy the football business side is. Sign a decent deal, have a great start, get a brutal injury and you are discarded.

BTW, I had read a bunch on Pajiba about how the reboot in season 2 of Halt and Catch Fire was so much better. Started watching it on a whim this weekend. I do like it a lot. The main character last year who is secondary now, he does suck.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Yeah he's a bigger sociopath than Elliot. I mean, who would have gay sex and strangle people just to move up the corporate ladder? Now that I think about it, he and his wife remind me a lot of Claire and Frank Underwood. So, I think I missed the big episode for him somehow. That scene where he randomly fires people seemed really over the top, but makes sense more now.
  14. Naw I don't care. Just don't want to ruin my run of breaking news recently.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) They traded Groy for OLB Matthew Wells, not a pick That came out after I wrote that.
  16. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) yes the sox did make 500 in April then slid like a luge. We actually were 1 game over .500! glory days
  17. Ha, so Pads had similar tailspin as Sox after saying they were still in contention and standed pat.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) The Bears have traded OG Ryan Groy to the Patriots http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000050...rs-og-ryan-groy Twitter says undisclosed draft pick. Kind of remarkable there, I wonder what conditions you put on it. 7th rounder if he makes the 53?
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) If nothing else, it made baseball fun to watch again for about 10 days. Yes, it was fun. Since mid-june, I 've found our games at least entertaining baseball. But, man, it is incredible to me that as of last Sunday, i had thought we may still get a chance at the playoffs, and one week later that's all over. Queue 6 game win streak.

I can't believe Davidson can have 18hrs and have such a low slugging %
  21. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) I wouldn't be surprised if two / thirds of the crowd this weekend for the Cubs series are made up of Cub fans. And I wouldn't blame Sox fans for staying away given the franchises performance certainly since September 2012. Something else I've noticed which should be troubling to the organization. On the on-line version of the Tribune the past two mornings, not one word, one story is about the Sox on the page that first comes up on the screen. As bad as the Sox are you'd think the "badness" would get some mention. It isn't. The Sox are becoming totally irrelevant in their own city. Not blaming the papers in one sense (although from a journalistic standpoint it shouldn't matter what the team's record is). My guess is that the majority of the season ticket holders who signed up this year after the off season spending spree on veterans in their 30's won't be back. Mark Cowley troll-tweeted in June "Why should the local papers cover the sox when they can barely get 20k in the ballpark in summer?" I thought it was, as Cowley tweets go, completely unprofessional and stupid, but I feel like that is becoming more common. Sox at least have a fair number of reporters in area who grew up sox fans which may help as I peruse Twitter at least.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) The bar owner, if we assume he's being honest (and, I mean, maybe he isn't) just says he saw a girl clinging to Patrick at the bar. Plausible stuff. He even makes a point to say that his viewpoint isn't very useful considering where the crime is alleged to have taken place. If I was the paper, I'm not sure I'd have given so much text to someone who, while interesting in that he was around parties prior in night, was not even sure if his observations were regarding the correct person.
  23. Yeah maybe delete that and grow up
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Why is that the only other option? How about doing some actual negotiations. Obama got pants. Kerry got pants. Iran is laughing at them right in their faces and they can't even see it. How about some actual inspections? How about someone independent getting samples? How about no 30 day waiting period. What the hell do we get out of this except a piece of paper that says something that won't happen? K, so nothing about the access to inspect every aspect of supply, the dismantling of current cores or amount of uranium, just US got pantsed and I have no alternatives but I'm certain we could have gotten a better deal but also we shouldn't negotiate with terrorist regimes and the years of 02-08 show how effective this was and all of this is very coherent,
