Tyler Flowers and LOB Stats
If you think Flowers is the worst in the league you aren't even accurate when describing worst players on the white sox. Yes, it is fair for people to bring up that a catcher is great at working with the pitchers, as that is a huge part of the job. Hitters that are bad at that don't stay catchers because it matters.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) LBJ is twice the human Jordan ever was. On the court, MJ > James (skill-sets different though) but Lebron, who I rooted against like no other in Miami (and will do so again with Cleveland) has handled his fame very well and learned from his mistakes. Not to mention, his mistakes were not anything that actually negatively hurt people (just a PR fiasco). LBJ last season, with all the injuries to the Cavs, wasn't a heal, he was a lot like LBJ from the early Cavs teams, an incredible player trying to drive the underdog story. Next season though, with the healthy cast, I agree LBJ probably goes back a bit to being a "heal" but not near the "heal" he was during the Heat era and again, none if it takes away from this awesome and amazing gesture he made. Oh yeah he was such a joy last season openly moping about Kevin Love and Kyrie's D on the court, openly ignoring his head coach, calling out Kevin Love in press conferences, and doing his typical I HAVE NEVER FOULED ANYONE IN MY LIFE AND YET I AM ALWAYS FOULED! He's unbearable to watch.

Trayce Thompson
Considering where he was considered at the end of last year, I'm very excited that it looks like we have at the very least a defensive replacement (an excellent one) with some pop. Favorite thing about watching Trayce so far, he looks like he has a clue on the basepaths. He's also fast with crazy reactions. Him being able to get back to 1st on a pickoff move after he'd started to run to second was crazy.

Rodon's respective CERA's
It is random, but i've seen rodon's explosions all with Soto. Each time he was calling an odd number of fastballs. For example, vs. Yankees, Rodon actually started attacking with the fastball and getting 2 strikes to batters. They started hitting it hard, and he kept calling for fastballs. Predictably rodon started to try and throw away and got wild. Flowers has had a nice mix of changeups and sliders with Rodon. On the other hand, Rodon's slider command may have been terrible in the bullpen and they did this with Soto to compensate.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) Leury's OPS is actually 41 points higher than Matt Davidson's. Honestly surprised how a guy with 20 homers has as low of a slugging % as davidson has, let alone his awful OBP.

Balta's just trying to rub the samardjiza trade in everyones face by implying that even the QO offer process will be a disaster. It is the last thing I'm worried about.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) I can think of $16 million or so reasons why it's a potential problem. For what? Why? Your whole stance is that they incorrectly accelerated a rebuild, and you are worried about an extra $7 million we are hamstrung by for one year? Your question is are we nervous about Shark accepting, but no, I would have no reservations about delivering a qualifying offer if the worst case scenario is getting a 200IP pitcher for 1 year, 17 million. I would be shocked if he didn't outperform this year, but even if he did, it has very little ramifications longterm with the exception of possibly/maybe creating a temporary surplus of pitching depth. If that's the worst case scenario, that is certainly worth extending with the hope fo getting a comp pick.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) With Danks on the roster I don't think I did. However, I also see no reason why we should expect him to follow a path that different from Rodon. Really for starting the season though if Samardzija is here then EJ isn't. That's who the initial tradeoff would be. Oh no, what a terrible problem, let's kill ourselves.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) IMO, if you count Fulmer, the White Sox are back to having 6 starters who should/will be in the big leagues for most of next year even without Samardzija. Fulmer may not be ready for a whole season, but conveniently I won't mind replacing Danks with him. So that's the risk. (Danks, of course, has a better ERA than Samardzija this year too. But him, we'll be able to replace) I see no reason to take it for granted that Fulmer would be ready next year.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) Just looking at current starters in the league now picked up after 15th pick. Flacco (18) Dalton (35) Brees (32) Kaepernick (36) Wilson (75) just names not mentioned yet btw Yes to Brees, mentioned Wilson. I'd feel pretty meh about having Flacco/Dalton/Kaep, though Flacco may not deserve that grouping. But God, he is boring.

Sorry guys, not convinced as you try to pull in guys like Bulger for volume and go back to Unitas. You know what does seem to set all of those late round QBs apart though? They went to teams with great QB systems and coaching. It's likely no matter where Bears draft they'll fail unless we finallly have a team in place to develop/support them. I think John Fox puts his QBs in place to succeed and overcome deficiencies, but his ability to trust coordinators to implement their systems means it's not consistent.

Matt Davidson named Best Defensive 3B
Crede was exciting because he was an offensive prospect. Davidson is not Joe Crede.

However you cut it, we have Adam LaRoche for at least next year. The good news? Trayce Thompson had a great AAA campaign and is an ideal 4th outfielder because he can hit LHP and spell LaRoche. He's a plus defender. So, I feel happier about that.

I'm not a Jay Hater much, except when I watch him I just feel disappointed. I'd rather have Jay than stuck in Bills/Houston situation. But, I am annoyed that as we found relative stability at QB we could not draft talent at any other position to take a risk in trading up for young talent (mariota etc). We need so much help, we have to take what comes, and no, I do not get excited for pretty much any QB who falls out of top 15. Russel Wilson and Tom Brady are the top of a very long list that turns to crap shortly after them.

Rivers really poor down years dragged him down, and you shoulnd't discount them. But he has been awful for 2 seasons but also quite good outside of that. I'd take his quite good seasons probably over any Jay season in a bear uniform.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) I'm really disappointed in this Dem field. Way too thin, and just poor candidate depth. You've got a Clinton, a guy whose ideas are wholly impractical (Sanders), O'Malley, and... anyone else? Really? The Dems have the advantage in that they don't suffer from the MUST FOLLOW PARTY LINE problem nearly as badly as the GOP does. But the Dems have a real lack of leadership bench. Republicans wiped out dem governors, and in addition, some of the top dem talent went into the administration in no-win situations. Also in addition, for some reason dems gave a lot of money to some Texas democrats who have not been able to elevate office.
