I'll just repeat, I do not want Cutler long-term, but I do not think we achieve any longterm advantage by getting rid of him this year unless we have identified a replacement. His contract is much easier to trade next year, and the biggest FA's are now off the board. We will have no issues adding to our team even with Cutler.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) I disagree with the bolded immensely however the author of that article hit on something that makes more sense, spending a lot of money on a DISPOSABLE watch is insane. Most hight quality watches last forever and can be passed down for generations if you want to. My Rolex wont ever be "old technology" like this version of a watch will be. Yeah this is a good point. People who buy a 5k+ watch are expecting to own it for at least 20 years. This is 10k for...2 years?

Ferguson Riots
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Personally I think these sorts of actions should lead to changes in law making it easier to sue cops and police departments. You know the easiest way to change the behavior? Hit them in the pocket book. I find it hard to believe this would help. I don't think they would view this as "their" pocket book. More of a "not my problem"

I agree with you. I think some transparency is needed, perhaps it has, on how much municipalities project from these types of fines. Maybe some best practices are needed for how much they should project or account for so these practices of exploitation stop.

As the report laid out, race clearly has played a role. Many of you are talking about targeting out of towners. Imagine if it was your own police dept targeting you? What if instead of just an expensive ticket, often situations escalated to jailing. Do you think that would happen in your community?

QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) I'm relatively optimistic about smartwatches, but it's a very immature market. They have to be priced and marketed like gadgets, not watches. At least, they won't do well to market to the kinds of people that have already purchased watches more expensive than the $300+ typical pricetag on new models of smartwatch. Instead, it's gotta be about the people who aren't afraid to drop that kind of money on a phone or tablet or fitness GPS, etc. They will be most appealing to the people who use their phones the most since their most natural use is mirroring notifications and making quick actions on them. If they are to catch on, it's going to happen when they look a little better, have drastically improved battery life (I think 2 days is a minimum standard for when we can say they are relatively convenient), and are really easy to use. It seems like Apple is indeed interested in getting customers of the non-smart watch market, which is a risky move IMO. In a lot of ways, a smartwatch is simply contrary to the tastes of high-end watch consumers. Things like ruggedness and traditional design mean a lot to them, and those things just don't mesh with smartwatches which are obviously very modern and will be beholden to things like periodic charging. Apple could do well to get the people who have the money and desire for social symbols that high-end watch buyers have, but don't happen to be into watches. I disagree with a lot of this. I think the people that collect watches care a lot about status symbols. You basically have to see whether this hits the appropriates status. Mid-level watches are not $300...they are $3000. I have to be honest, if you make a smart watch a gadget, it's going to be a fad. It's only if they hit the appropriate function/style aspect that it will be more. Quite obviously watches have no purpose in today's world, yet they exist as one of the few fashion accessories for men. The interesting thing will be whether people who have a $10,000 JLC watch is going to view an Apple watch as something worth collecting. It depends how certain status symbols pick it up. They should obviously start sponsoring tennis events

I'm not advocating keeping Cutler for the remainder of his contract, but he will be pretty easy to move after this year. I do not see the point in trading for a 5th rounder when his presence for 2015-6 his dollar amount is not affecting any acquisitions. This QB draft class is nothing.
-

Maybe not, but I don't see how he is preventing them from acquiring that future QB right now either. Or any future piece.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) I highly doubt we will get more than a 5th rounder. You can honestly name 15-20 QB's who are better than Cutler, and most of them make less than him. Sure, but none of those QBs are available to the titans, if they do not like Mariota or value the 2nd for someone like Williams more. Titans execs need to win. They have shown no ability to improve for 5 years now. But honestly for a fifth rounder there is no reason to trade cutler considering they will not have any upgrades possible. You may get more value next year with a much more reasonable contract.

I don't really think having Cutler on team for next year is that big of a deal. Who on the market do you want that cap space for this year? I don't think getting rid of him for nothing just for money next year is that important, those same deals will likely be there next year with even better contract to take on.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) The watch market is a different kind of beast... Personally, I have little interest in the smart watch category, but 300-500$ isn't very expensive for a watch, either, especially if it's made nicely, and this appears to be made very nicely. The battery life on all of these watches are abysmal, even the ones that are far more limited than Apple's...but they're also doing a hell of a lot more than a standard watch does...but that being said, I don't need my watch to do much, it's jewelry. The battery life at least makes sense compared to manual watches, though, where you have to wind every morning. But winding is a little easier than charging for hours. But totally agree on watch market. This isn't replacing a phone...it's replacing a watch.

poll: what do people think Reasonable return is for Cutler. Honestly, swapping a 3rd for a high 2nd is too low. I would only take honest to god picks, or swapping firsts with titans. We would then have lots of ability to trade down and accumulate more picks. We would also be tuwwible next year.

The Apple watch may bust out as far as become the next ubiquitous device. But I'm not sure that's so much Apples game under Cook. It may end up just being a profitable branch of the business, and comparable to...other watches. At the very least, you have to respect that Apple understood the market a bit better than their peers and put a lot more into having the watch look cool (to some), because that's ultimately a watch's main purpose in this day and age, look cool and avoid some of the tasks where looking at your cell phone would be deemed too rude.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) I kept seeing him in the Top 5 right after the season ended. He wasn't healthy at combine, so we should probably wait until he runs a 4.4 forty at combine before getting too down.

Rodon believes he's ready now
QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) You're right and that's the point. I don't see the service time as a particularly big deal in respect to the the fraction of the seventh season of control but Super 2 rights are a little bit more sketchy. The former seems to be an unintended consequence of a necessary stipulation where the latter leaves room for a change and more to be desired. Yeah, I think Super2 should go. Clearly has become a huge driver, unfairly to a player. Especially for pitchers after the year of the UCL last year.

Nate Jones targeting All Star Break return
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) Nate Jones is so far out of sight out of mind for me, the only time I really remember the guy is when i see his bad car commercial I was about to say the same thing. Not even going to plan on this.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) It is crazy the NFL disparity. Obviously with 52 players, there is going to be some less impact in total salaries. But it is insane considering the billions in that league how basically the top players (QBs) are talking 60 million contracts (when guarantees are factored in only), and that was basically Melky Cabrera, somewhat sought after LF.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) I also want Shane Ray if he falls to Bears for obvious Mizzou homer reasons, also they should sign Sam. Go Mizzou. Apparently Ray is slipping on draft boards. Wouldn't mind trading back. I get so annoyed with pseudo scouts on bears boards all claiming that Ray doesn't have good tape. Ray might not have good size measurables, but nobody can tell me he didn't have good tape. He had 4-5 moves he used on a regular basis, and when Golden was out teams wouldn't even run to his side.

QUOTE (TRU @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) A couple things to consider is the NFL has a hard salary cap, and also most of these guys are only playing 16 games as opposed to 162 or 82. But money wise, just because baseball has 140+ more games does not make it more profitable than football. I'm just amazed how little the football players union has gotten for these guys. I'm completely aware of the rules, just amazed they haven't guaranteed contracts yet.

White Sox with the Fourth Toughest Schedule
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) I guess you didn't either? In 2014's second half, the Royals scored the 11th most runs despite stealing 40% more bases than anybody else. And the actual correlation between runs scored and stolen bases last season was -.017, which is a meaningless result. The announcer was absolutely correct. has there been any affect in XBT % going up and offense?
