Sigh, I like Doug, but that would put the ongoing tally to complete his deal to be 2 first round picks and 3 second round picks.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) A few different quality players in there. Sessions / Aaron Brooks are quality. I also like Stuckey quite a bit. Wes Johnson / CDR and others are solid too, but I think if we could get 2 of the better guys on that list (one at SG and another at PG), I would be extremely happy. Stuckey is on there but TBH I bet he takes a payday. I could see Aaron Brooks go for Bulls Redemption at min, though. The hail mary would be Jameer Nelson deciding he doesn't need a final payday and playing for min.

The spurs have 8 players with long range ability, ability to pick up the dribble and have been perfecting their movement offense for 4-5 years. The bulls are not the Spurs. They have 2 forwards now with Kyle Anderson that can play like point guards, and have a what Jimmy Butler could be if he could shoot the 3 and finish at the rim more often.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Alec Burks would be a very good get out of Utah. He might be on the outside of a numbers game there. I've been touting this but when I looked at the news out of Utah for proposed trade packages including him, they were for big hauls. They aren't in any hurry to dump him even though they have a bit of a logjam with the recent draft of Exum.

Also, just to be clear, Bulls entered offseason with areas to upgrade, one of which WAS front court depth. That they chose to go pump up FC depth rather than go hard for a guard will be something to judge this team on. And I don't think anyone here has been overhyping McDermott. A certain poster has the tendency to make a fake person to argue with to make their argument more convincing, but it doesn't mean anyone has actually been acting like McDermott will be the 3rd star we were missing. Reason for optimism: For 4 years the bulls have tried plug the spacing issue by signing a "3-point guy". IT really did work pretty well when you had Korver and Deng was hitting reasonable amount of 3s. Then they plugged in Belli. Then MDJ. Point being we've basically had one consistent long range shooter and our spacing is by far the worst i the league. Defenses against us look like a kids soccer game. If Snell has made the leap to become a legitimate 3 and D SG, Dunleavy, McDermott and Mirotic are all legitimate, consistent long range threats. Also losing Boozer, who basically gave up playing inside on O and hung out 15 feet from rim in favor of Gasol really could be an interesting offense. But you can't have everything, and losing Melo derby means the bulls for the 4th straight year are entering season without a 2nd shot creator unless a gift is sent to us. That has been the single biggest killer preventing this team, and it still isn't addressed. But maybe the spacing improving and some semblance of a real derrick rose would be enough.

The wizards may not have done anything that put them over the top, but they were also very young, and are now a year older. If Otto Porter's crap first season was just dealing with the hip injury, and he turns out to be a good player, they are a scary team. They diced the bulls apart. Nene/Gibson destroyed Noah.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) The Bulls need to get creative here and get some ballers who can put the ball in the basket. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=pa2wc5k Give them enough picks here to make the move worthwhile on their end. Should leave us within the cap assuming you dump Dunleavy. Probably unrealistic. Probably cap stupid and wrong. But whatever. I'm too busy at work today to do match. Hell, the trade machine might even be wrong for all I know. /useless post You aren't going to get Presti to bite unless you include draft picks galore. At this point Boozer is overpaid by about 11 million, people know he's about to be amnestied, and as we saw last year, the 76ers don't really care that much about coming under the floor. It's not that harsh of a penalty.

And he's white, so they are the same player. These Adam Morrison comparisons have to stop. If McDermott fails, the fact that Adam Morrison failed too has nothing to do with his career.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) It is believed the Bulls still have their BAE to use on their back-up PG. Where are you reading this? Not from KC Johnson, who pretty explicitly stated BAE went to Hinrich. Unless we traded MDJ, which I hope we haven't because we have no 3, I don't see where that money is coming from.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) No, but it should put the next Adam Morrison thing to sleep. But it won't. I understand that. I actually think some people would rather the team they supposedly root for suck. If Gary Harris or someone else someone on this board wanted instead of trading up for McDermott, tossed in 31 yesterday, I'm pretty sure it would have been pointed out how the Bulls totally blew it. We all know that. Gary Harris scored 32 points his first game and nobody said this.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Summer league should be downplayed. Playing well in summer league doesn't indicate anything as to how a player will perform during the NBA season. If a guy does play poorly its cause for concern though so it is nice to see McDermott perform well. Rose played kind of poorly. But you could tell Erik Murphy was DOA in summer league. Teague's improvement in year 2 was okay, but not great. McDermott is nice to see because he is draining 3s from 25-6 feet consistently with a hand in his face. We can get him open at that depth, or if they have to guard him there that opens up the floor. That is good news regardless of whether he can get you 18 ppg and be our offensive savior, if he can drain 3s like that it helps.

But it's the same in that there is only 1 ballhandler. If anything it's like the Bulls are trying to recreate the washington offense, though missing Beal. But we don't know, perhaps contract year Jimmy is the best contract year player since Ariza.

2014-2015 NBA thread
Also who downplayed McDermott in the Summer League? I don't want anyone to think I'm not excited about watching the bulls. Our spacing with certain lineups will be much improved. I'm going to watch regardless, I'm going to convince myself we can beat the top teams regardless, but this was the last FA period (next years FA sucks) with our core in their primes. It's hard to even anticipate what Rose will be. If he truly is 2011 Rose, then the game has changed. But I worry, even if the heavy post offense will destroy in the reg. season, better teams can deny that ball going to the post and it will be up to exclusively rose to make that team offense work. I'm looking at our team, I don't see how there are more defensive holes than last year. Any subtractions would at least be lateral, and Rose/Kirk defensively is much better than Augustin/Kirk. In fact I think defensively we've upgraded.

For those who care: Snell continues to DOMINATE summer league. Draining threes and creative off dribble. Doug looks much more comfortable and showing some creativity. Bairstow is great at defending. No doubt will be on roster...Will never play likely. Posthummus is the best. Well worth the 5 to watch him attempt to play basketball. Excited for Billy baron.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) Maybe. It's not like Spain is a third world country or anything though. He played on one of the best teams in Europe. I'm sure they have strength programs. Haha not saying that, just not sure they put the priority on strength training the way US bball does.
