So a month or so ago I believe NorthSide posted that what Trey was doing was good but not breakthrough. With his recent power, do people think he is ahead of development? What are things he needs to continue to show before moving to WS?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:52 AM) IF he turns out to be Jose Quintana, would that be an awful thing? Would it be awful? hell no. Was I hoping his potential of our highest draft pick in 25 years was still trending as a #1 before even throwing a pitch? Yes. Obviously it's meaningless, I just saw that and laughed.

So Samardzija has allowed less earned runs in more innings pitched, more ks, the same amount of walks and less hits, and obviously lower WHIP, and he is worth .6 less fWar this year?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) I do not believe Quintana is better than Samardzija. He is more valuable and more of a guarantee going forward, but I do not believe he is better. Frankly, he may not be worse either, but I think it's crazy talk to say that Quintana is better than Samardzija. I'll accept the argument if you factor in age and control, but not straight up. I think sox fans, annoyed with the Sale comparisons, have weirdly now convinced themselves that Samardzija is garbage

I used to love Aaron Gray. Remember when he dropped 19 and 22 in 09 or something? When he was taking oops from Chris Paul that playoff series vs. Lakers? High comedy.

KC Johnson wrote that on Sunday.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:30 PM) This is exactly what I was saying. Teams with championship aspirations don't add Chandler Parsons at $12 mill per. That's that. If y'all are ok 50 wins and a 2nd round exit, which I'm not, then he's the guy you want. Obviously you know that I agree, but I'd still head into year a little excited. For 3 years this has been a poor jump shooting team, and the bulls will have addressed that by adding a single good shooter. Adding Parsons, McDermott and mirotic would be first time we'd have multiple space opening options. Add in what you would hope to be an improved Snell, and that's a different offensive look.

Well yes. I hope when Derrick is up for signing an extension, he is back to all star form, and takes a discount after the past 2.5 years of not playing.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) The Astros took a guy that many felt was the best arm with the highest ceiling in the draft, found out that he may have some injury concerns after initially agreeing to a $6.5 million deal, and are still saying to him "look, we're still willing to give you $5 mill, which we believe is more than fair." I don't see anything questionable with what the Astros have done. Exactly, I'm not sure of their other issues, but any other sport and this would have been a known issue prior to the draft. Him continuing to get 5 million is a win for the players union I guess.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:34 PM) Hinrich would love to be paid $5 million a year to be kinda bad at basketball. I don't think he cares where he's playing. Right, but this part: It would be fully unguaranteed in the two subsequent seasons, a la Keith Bogans, and thus not impinging at all on the 2015 free agency plan.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:26 PM) He can shoot and space the floor for us. Sure, he's not Melo or Kevin Love, but he'll contribute offensively with his shooting and he can probably be a decent defender under Thibs given his size and athleticism. He absolutely is all of that, but he'd be a guaranteed 4 year 48 mill contract. That will severely limit the bulls going forward from being rumored to land the next superstar whom will spurn us. edited for clarity to show 12 million per year
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:30 PM) That does help the Knicks quite a bit in terms of the tax next year. That trade does look pretty ridiculous though lol. I mean, the main difference here is the waiving of boozer. WOuld Hinrich do this? That's the wrench I do not know.

The incomparable Mark Deeks: http://www.hoop365.com/nba/eastern-confere...an-get-carmelo/ Must-read.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 11:13 PM) s***, I'd be all for the Bulls signing him to an offer sheet. You potentially get the guy and you burn the Rockets for taking advantage of a bulls*** loophole I'm not sure I want a $12mil/yr Chandler Parsons. I like him though.
-
Wow that's crazy. Good luck Avisail.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) The hold up is presumably that they keep asking guys like Bosh to take less and less, while teams like Houston are telling Bosh theyll give him the moon. Meanwhile Lebron seems in no rush to actually commit to Miami, which has to leave Bosh wondering what is going on. Will be hilarious though if Parsons agrees to offer sheet on day 1 of free agency to mavs (rumored to be hot on his heels) which severely restricts their cap space immediately. Also depends on dumping Lin.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) Would the Cavs be crazy enough to trade Wiggins for Love? They apparently offered #1 pick, but lack of guarantee from Love to re-sign killed deal. So, don't see why that's crazy.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) From the article: Sigh, already a projected #2 without a pitch thrown.
-
ohhh. yeah. Not sure who would want thornton.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Some rumors Cavs about to announce major trade. If it is Klove, Lebron can just head on down. Gulp.
-
Also, all that craptalking about their PGs last season. Do we really believe Napier will be significantly better than Chalmers in year 1?
-
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 11m heres story on ligament issue thats delayed aiken deal. astros said to seek $1.5M discount to $5M. http://cbsprt.co/1mBvHx7 Man this is brutal. I feel bad for all parties involved.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) They haven't fully renounced bird rights on Lebron, Wade, Bosh. As long as it is those guys they bring back in, they go back fully over the cap and thus eligible for MLE. However, if the player is someone like Melo, then they would not be in that position and would not have access to the MLE (as they would be under the cap). Say Bosh leaves. This would then just count against the cap then, right?
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) McRoberts to the Heat. Full mid level exception, 4/23 Aren't the heat $50 million under the cap? How do you get a mid level exception when you are under the cap?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Wait, so Knicks are moving Amare? Wow, if that is the case, can they make a run at LBJ? That would only put them about 4-5 mill under cap. I have to say, I"m pretty impressed at how Phil has done getting rid of the dumpster fire contracts the Knicks had. If I'm him, I wonder if he's kind of hoping Carmelo leaves so he can start fresh. I still like Phil Jackson a lot, not surprised his mind could figure out the GM world.
