  1. I don't know about you guys, but my favorite part about baseball is listening to old men talk about their golf swings and how good of a golfer each former and current major league player is.
  2. Very interested for some games this year.
  3. Is mlb broadcasting these games for free or is it just for their gameday or whatever it is users?
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 03:18 AM) Usually, when we're expected by our own fans to do s*** (2007, 2013), we suck. But when our White Sox faithful think we're going to suck (2005, 2008, 2014?), we perform well. Put me at over. I disagree. I felt very negative about the team heading into 2007 and 2013. 2013 was worse than I would have guessed but I didn't think we had a chance at the division. 2005 and 2008 I felt pretty good about. The thing is, I've rarely seen the sox get off to a slow start and then win the division. 2010 was closest to that. So if we start off terrible the writing is usually on the wall.

    It's cold outside

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) I find it to be highly inaccurate, but maybe you'll have better luck. I actually just searched it two weeks ago when there was reports of flooding. It said the following week would be chilly, but then 40's and 50's average afterwards. That never happened. Yeah that's silly. I had a bachelor party in late march last year and kept checking historical temp and precipitation. It turned out to be right on the money which was pretty cool. That website made march in chicago seem amazing. To me I don't expect 60s consistently until May. 45 and rainy until May.

I help with admissions for my school. I still give money to Missouri as long as they continue taking their responsibility to educate the students across the state equally, through lower admission standards and scholarships. That may make it a "worse" ranked school but I think it's important. That said, I'm amazed how much better the median student is that applies, how much more extracurriculars they do, how much more course work they do. They may not have as many jobs but they are clearly busy. They seem to be well aware that they need a college education to survive. That wasn't the case 30 years ago.

I love this thread. We've learned: -Yes this is the only lawsuit of it's kind but it is DEFINITELY indicative of an entire generation of laziness that no soxtalker can relate to because they all bootstrapped themselves up and worked a food job in their life. -No, we definitely need to keep things in perspective about occupy's contributions to Sandy relief. Though they may have helped a little, it was nowhere near the work done by larger organizations like red cross.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 12:03 AM) Sure hasn't effected Wade. If Noah is recruiting him, then Noah thinks he's a winner. Wade didn't leave to be a #2, he stayed on his team.
  9. I'm fine with Taj going as long as it brings in Mirotic. The bulls will take a hit on defense, but finally will have legit spread the floor options, not just one three pointer guy that they've been trying to run with for 4 years.
  10. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 10:58 PM) Maybe his bro can convince him to come here afterall? "Per Rotoworld: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent Michael Bennett won't re-sign with the Seahawks before the start of free agency, and plans to test the open market." What you should be reading here is that the money is what's going to convince him.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) I agree. And he has that Jumpman contract, im sure Nike wouldnt mind pushing that in the city where Jumpman started Yeah, maybe poor choice of words here, but more that with Rose and it being Rose's hometown, I don't think Melo would be the #1 guy.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) I cant imagine Melo has really enjoyed his time in new york. He has one good season sandwiched between two mediocre and miserable seasons. I think there is a chance, but Melo will have to want it. I think there's probably an amazing feeling to being the top player in NYC, after having gone to school in New York and the Big East. It's a great basketball city. Now he'd be going to a place with a coach that demands defense, he'd be making less than the superstar there, and generally being a role player. And the weather sucks. Seeing how Korver has taken off post Chicago makes me wonder how much we sacrificed trying to make Kyle passable on D. He lost a lot of energy I'm guessing and his 3pt game suffered in playoffs when D takes over. It makes you appreciate how Lebron can be so dominant on both ends. That takes a ton of energy.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) everyone knows it comes to money for Melo. If he feels like he needs the Max, then he needs to accept that he probably wont be winning a championship any time soon. I know this is true but also know that I'm going to be convincing myself that there's a chance up until the obvious happens.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) Is that lack of available jobs or disinterest from the kids we're talking about? As I worked my bulls*** law clerk job paying $13/hour for 2 years (before and after getting my license) other friends of mine decided it wasn't worth it and remained unemployed by choice until a "real" job came along. Edit: Also, I have a hard time believing that a McDonald's manager wouldn't hire a college educated 22 year old over a 45 year old, uneducated mother of 3. The college educated kid needs to adjust his salary requirements. Is it unbelievable? There is a good chance that you'll spend a lot of money training the 22 year old and they'll bail in six months. The 45 year old is an employee more likely to stay.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) I'm not saying kids haven't been spoiled s***s before, but I don't think kids in past generations would have started a lawsuit over it. They might have felt like their parents owed it to them to pay for their college, but they never would have asserted that as a legal right. And yes, Occupy was an example of that problem. Kids protesting about not having jobs or money as they tweet and blog through various hi-tech gadgets. They had a legitimate beef to start (lots of debt, no jobs) but quickly just became a "I want more. I don't have enough. Look at that rich guy over there. Not fair." movement. Sure, the SDS was completely reasonable as well.
  16. And the worst board meme will die, thank God.
  17. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) That's a good question. Trying to keep other teams from knowing how much cap space we have? That seems like a bit of a stretch because I'm sure they could find out (e.g. ask the agent) if they really wanted to. I'm not entirely sure. Are they just waiting until the player officially signs? Maybe we've only had verbal agreements when the deals have been announced, so they don't want the #'s to get out until the contract has been signed. Yeah, it may just be that Ratliff is less big news than DaQwell jackson so we won't know full terms until then. Or that our contracts are just much more creative.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) Spring Training Everyone Is Awesome Article http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/danks-...first-time-2012 FIFY

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) No, but it's indicative of the general trend, just like the Occupy stuff. LOL what.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 05:00 AM) Curious about the money involved, but I'm sure it's reasonable. Happy with this move. We badly need DT depth, and Ratliff is a solid vet. Why has money been so slow to leak for Bears players

This stuff certainly never happened 10 years and 20 years before it! America is never taking a single sensationalist case and extrapolating it across a generation!
  22. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 03:42 AM) Noah with 2 triple doubles in 3 games. Dude has been playing flat out ridiculous ball 6/7 games with 100+ pts. What team is this?
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Maybe i'm wrong. I just see large state projects/grants given to Chicago-centric things - mass transit, health services, public housing, etc. Yes, there are those things downstate, but not nearly as big and not nearly as expensive to build/maintain/fund. As an example, here's an article (partisan statements included) about education spending: http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/201...g-inequity.html Those large state projects and grants are going to the vast majority of the state's millions of people. Roads, mail delivery, hospitals, etc are very expensive to build and the more spread out the people are the less bang for the buck you get. By the time you travel from Lake Michigan to Joliet you will have passed over 3/4ths of the states population. The remaining geographical area's infrastructure is not 100% supported by the remaining 1/4th. Now if you specifically talk about cash flows to cook county and take away "Chicagoland" the rest of the state may be different. Though if the rest of the state split and I was Chicago I would tax the holy hell out of commuters.
  24. Sad to see he won't break record with bears. But it was too difficult to use a roster spot on someone who had no value outside return specialist.
