QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Does it work different for RFA's? You normally have to renounce your bird rights if you are going to sign FA's. Lowe had a explainer on this yesterday. Basically, Parsons is only a 2.2 cap hit until signing an offer, but then immediately is the cap hit of the offer as soon as it's signed. However, if this happens post anthony, they can sign him over the cap because of some reason (maybe not birds rights?)

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) Cap is said to rise up to 63 million I believe. Not sure if that happened or not. Right, when is that official, pre July 10? Because if that's the case, Bulls can clear up to 20 million unless I am missing something (I think I am with Rips contract)

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) I think, or at least I hope, they mean in terms of his big expiring coming off the books when Love is potentially a FA. Oh, as a FA. Otherwise I have not seen any indication that expiring contracts was what Minny was looking for.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) sorry if this has been answered, but can the same salary effect from a s & t with boozer be accomplished with an amniesty? Not sure what you mean. Amnestying Boozer gets bulls at about 15 mill, and that's it. You can't go over salary and are signing outright. The reason S&T is attractive is we can go over cap and get exceptions, but salary has to be within 125% of each other (i.e. we need boozer) Amnestying boozer also means we do not get to use any exceptions because we are under cap, and also I believe you just forfeit them.

Harden - 14 mill Anthony - 20 mill? Howard - 21 million That is 55 million of 57 salary cap 2.2 to RFA parsons (for now, bird rights can allow them to go over cap) 57.2 million 9x500k = 4.5 million 61.7 million What am I missing here?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) Rumor has it their pitch is a 5 player super team, which will include Howard, Melo, Harden, Parsons, and another FA (most believe this to be Lowry). Harden is in on the presentation and probably means they are not seriously going after LBJ (or dangling Harden in a S&T). Houston has a much easier opportunity at giving Howard big money as they won't have the same difficulties Chicago has in terms of getting a S&T with Knicks (as Houston can structure its trade without putting in near the same types of guaranteed money). Lin is supposedly on his way to Philly if Melo gives a verbal commitment. I don't see how Lowry could be possible now that he is getting 5 years at around 10 or 12 from TOR. I get that talent wise they are a great fit, and that Morey can somehow fit 3 max deals on his team where the Bulls can barely fit one, but that roster can score 130 and give up 200 points a game. Also, if someone signs Parsons to a deal NOW, it severely limits them. Presti, please please please do not accept Lin for no reason. The penalty for the salary floor is essentially nothing.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Big time. I know that we didn't have any business winning that game and Belgium is just flat out better but that doesn't make it hurt any less. It feels like watching the Red Wedding on game of thrones but knowing you have four years to see the next season.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) Wow. Houston is definitely more than that. And given the basketball season (including training camp) is from Sept - May, the weather should be fair in those months, and basketball players don't always stay in their basketball city during off season. If I am a basketball player, I would probably pick Houston weather over Chicago weather, given how bad the winter can get during the season. And didn't Howard also choose to sign with Houston when weather and city life are also his priorities? Dwight Howard was from the south. He also didn't like LA who has better city life/weather than Houston.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) What is Bulls' plan B and C. All these talk on landing Melo, I'd probably give it a 25% chance given the heavy competition. If we strike out on Melo, who do we target next? Greg Monroe? 34 year old Gasol? Chandler Parson? I don't think any of those guys are worth JR paying Boozer amnestied contract for. Worst case (most likely) scenario would be sticking with Boozer and bringing in Mirotic along with the already drafted McDougie and call it an off season. I think that may cause some Bulls fan to riot and boycott the UC next season. So you'd want to pay Boozer to block minutes from Taj Gibson and Mirotic. Got it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) I'm one of Butler's biggest fans but that would be a disaster for whichever team (unless his max is a lot less then I'm thinking). I do think Butler's production and progress last year was very negatively impacted by the slew of injuries he faced. I think he takes some major steps forward and I personally think he's an outstanding fit / chip on this squad but one that likely goes in a S&T for Melo (as the incentive for Knicks to do it). If Jimmy Butler makes more than Lebron, than the league really needs to start policing themselves by firing dumb owners, not taking more money from players.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) I find it funny that people always say this, but Houston is pretty awesome actually. My sister and brother-in-law have lived there for 6 years now (and my parents live there now), and they were dreading it (but it was for a great job opportunity) and they love it now. Their neighborhood is about 10 minutes from downtown, yet you wouldn't feel like you're in a big city. There is a ton to do and a lot of cool areas. I've spent tons of time there over the years and I'd easily move there if I had to. Is it Chicago? No. No city in America is Chicago. But it's a hell of a lot better than a lot of places. And the weather is way better, unless you're the type of person who loves freezing cold temperatures and shoveling snow every day in the winter. No. sorry it sucks. it's a strip mall with 100 degree heat.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) The sign and trade has to help the Knicks though. I just don't think the Bulls can make it attractive enough for them to take Boozer. Maybe if the take back JR Smith and some other garbage to free up space, it makes it closer, but doesn't really help free up money for Melo. It saves a rival money, it gives the guy that blew them off more money, and if they can't use Boozer's contract to trade for a really good piece or pieces, with the repeat tax offender penalty, his contract alone could cost them close to $40 million. But IMO, I agree, if Melo wants to be a Bull, he will be a Bull. They wouldn't waste his time unless they already know someone will take Boozer or they are willing to amnesty him. Bulls don't need to free up money in a trade. Boozer is included to match salaries in that scenario. But yes, the luxury tax would be main issue. But considering teams with salary floors I think Phil could send out some players.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) I didn't say it was perfect. He could get money and still be on a very good team though. I could see Asik getting moved, but Lin. Man I don't know who takes him. PGs are becoming a dime a dozen, an overpaid, not that good one? Would have to be a salary floor team. Also, really hoping someone signs Parsons to a monster contract, which would mess with Rockets ability to sign Melo.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) That is the reality in this. If he wants to, one way shape or form they will figure it out, imo. That said, I still think Houston, while offering a 2nd rate city, provides Melo with more money (if they trade lin, they are starting at 17M / year) and that actually works out to a larger # when you adjust for state income tax. It is hard to be the favorite when you are offering the least amount of money which is why this all comes down to Melo telling Knicks I'll take less and then put a lot of pressure on the sign and trade so they can get something. On the other hand, Houston as a city is horrible, and as a fit on their team is pretty bad too. Their defense was hilarious last year, and it's not getting any better with Asik gone.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Don't believe they have to since the Lakers are under the cap. This would only give us a large trade exception which is by and large unhelpful because it could only be used in Melo's deal if Melo took that exact price.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) The main reason to S&T isn't to get rid of Boozer though. It's to acquire Carmelo while being over the salary cap. They can't sign him outright and go over the cap but if they trade for him they can. If they do that, they get to use the Full Mid-Level Exception and a Lower Exception as well. They could realistically slot Mirotic into part of or all of the MLE, while signing a backup C and guys like Ben Gordon, Caron Butler, etc to fill out the team with the exceptions. Being over the cap is actually a good thing this offseason for sure. Exactly, I don't want to amnesty boozer because it means you have zero chance of signing Mirotic.
