QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 01:56 AM) I dont hate McDermott, I hate trading up for him. I hope he becomes the best player in the NBA. I just cant defend what the Bulls did there. At this point I'd rather Bulls get some one they targeted than keep collecting assets they won't use. High basketball IQ, great shooter, give him to Thibs. I don't give a s*** about backup point guards. Check out how many effing pgs were just drafted. It's the easiest position to fill.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 01:56 AM) McDermott isn't a just a spot up shooter. Guy was double teamed every night and 70% of his shots last year were contested. But is he white? Then he ben affleck.

Seeing sox badger and j4l hate the pick makes me think bulls really pulled a coup.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 12:51 AM) And I cant imagine the Bulls think they have a chance at Melo. You wouldnt draft McDermott cause he cant play the 2, neither can Melo. Even though I don't think the Bulls will get melo, this has nothing to do with drafting McDermott beside saving a bit of committed cap space.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:34 PM) If Jabari ends up being so great, we just sign him away from the Bucks / Cavs when he becomes a FA. I can already see Paxson and Gar keeping flexibility for 2019 plan.

BUT HOW IS RIZZO DOING?

Jose Abreu general discussion
I find it annoying Abreu needs to be held up next to Rizzo for zero reason other than Chicago media sucks.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Absolutely. As I've said before I still don't really no where I stand on McDermott as an NBA player. I think he's going to have a hard time getting jump shots off but he also can post people up and he's just one of the smarter scorers I've ever seen. I just don't think he's going to be the Dunleavy or Korver type of player that some people are pigeonholing him to be. I actually think very highly of him. If I remember MDJ's early career, he struggled getting shots off as well. But considering the finals we just saw, at the least you'll have a 6'8 guy with a 37" vertical who can drain it from 3 point land. He could be much better than that, but college post games sometimes take a while to develop against the much stronger post players in the NBA.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) Here's what I'll say about Embiid - I think there's a disturbingly high bust potential, but I'd still endorse the Bulls giving their left nut to draft him Agreed, if this sacramento #8 trade happens and he's there, you take him. but I'm guessing sac trades soon to another team that actually completes the deals they are rumored in.

Hilarious that people lump together white players like that. I wanted McDermott because I think he could very much be Kyle Korver. Though Korver's shot block levels are better than anything McDermott could hope for.

Look at the East this year. For the bulls to have been Celts level, Noah would have had to be injured or terrible. DJ Augustin - Butler - MDJ - Boozer - Gibson That was the only way to 25 wins or less.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Ric Bucher has reported that the Rose camp has reached out to Melo to let him know they want him in Chicago! 1 ss2k5 Rose meme down, 1 to go.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) I'm saying as a talent. I'm talking season as a whole and he was playing really good for UCLA down the stretch in PAC 10 play. Wasn't focused as much on scoring as just overall game. He's raw with serious upside. He'd be the type of guy you stash and develop through practice but his defensive upside is the reason you can probably eventually get Thibbs to buy into him. More then anything right now we need shooting and Lavine doesn't address that right now so for the Bulls they probably don't take him, but I think he has as much, if not more, pure upside then anyone else at those spots in the draft. Gotcha. I watched UCLA/Mizzou where he had a great game, so I definitely saw the tools. It just scares me how raw he was, he needs to play live basketball. BTW The Bulls really need to buy a D league team and use it effectively.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) Lavine at 16 or 19 would be a huge coup. Guy at a minimum will be an elite defender at his position and has a lot of ultimate upside. We aren't talking about a top 5 pick here. And having watched UCLA, he continued to get better and better. Lots of upside for a guy slated to go somewhere in the teens. He continued to get better and better? Didn't he score like 6 points total in his last 5 games? He wouldn't get off Thibs bench for 3 years.

Also, just an aside, but I can't believe the Lavine love. That kid is so raw, he reminds me of Tyrus Thomas hype except the NBA has gotten smarter.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) If we were coming off a 35 win season, with a #10 pick, we would be worse off. I'd rather the shot at Melo then the 10th pick. Screw that. Nothing franchise changing about a 10th pick (at least not in the near term). Could it hit, sure, but we have 16 and 19 in a deep and young draft. Give me a Euro player + Levine or another youngster with some upside (or grab a shooter) and I'm content. Look at the Lakers. That's what we'd be. A team with an expensive oft-injured "star", an aging and broken Gasol (Noah if we had tanked), and a whole lotta garbage around em. But hey! The #7 pick! So excited are they they are trying to turn that into Klay Thompson.

Meh, that seems unlikely. If Melo chooses Houston then that forces NYK hand. If I was Houston I'd try to get a 3 way send trash to NYK and get better assets (draft picks, etc) for Harden.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Zach Lowe also pointed out that he's refusing to re-sign with anyone, so he's basically an expiring contract, hence the deal that was made. Right, this is why I didn't believe DBAHO that he had value. When you are basically committing to FA and have 1 year left, you aren't netting a big haul.

Why exactly is Melo a major upgrade over Harden? To me that's basically creating the same team. Except somehow worse at defense without Asik.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) Hence why Noah and Thibs are f***ing morons for not wanting to tank this year. It would have been a perfect opportunity to get a good lottery piece going forward. Instead we can all brag about coming in 2nd in the division and bowing out in the 1st round. The bulls tanking would have meant that their team is not nearly as close as we think it is (i.e. one major player), and that our assets would have been much less attractive.
