Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Those numbers are against a bunch of players of which the vast majority will never, ever, ever play in the big leagues. All of these top draft picks are men among boys on the fields they play on. That's been the case their entire lives. The stuff is what you look at. Just a quick google search, on Gausman: "Gausman, who is a lanky 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, has a mid-90s fastball with movement (specifically in on righties) that can hit triple digits, a low-80s changeup (that’s a 15 mile per hour difference relative to his fastball) with a sharp downward drop, and a mid-80s slider that also misses bats. As those five walks indicate, he has complete control of all three pitches and challenges hitters in the zone, working primarily in the lower half. He has also received high marks for mixing his pitches well and for his overall mound demeanor." If Nola sounded like that I wouldn't be against the pick at all. Out of curiosity, do you like Aiken? -

Can someone get me the EXACT percentage of Aiken to the Cubs please? -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) In the first round, you're supposed to draft guys that could be stars. Nola will never be a star. Why waste the pick? You can get low ceiling college arms later in the draft. Ridiculous post. -

I still think people underestimate the fact that Sox could conceivably rate Nola as high because they think he will be a great pitcher not necessarily just because he is "safe". -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 07:01 PM) Maybe then the Marlins go back to Jackson, leaving Aiken for the Sox? Yes. Even though Jackson isn't slam dunk to Marlins, there at least seems to be higher probability of Jackson to Marlins than to Houston (from what little we know of Houston's thought process). Having choice among Kolek, Aiken and Nola is really nice. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) I hope Aiken slides to #3 somehow. With the word now that the Marlins coveting Rodon, we really should hope then that Rodon goes #1. -

I would feel a lot better had Hoffman not gotten injured. Spillt milk. -

I wonder if Arod will break that. edit: oh wait, we have Chipper Jones and KGJR coming up. Some of the best players in my lifetime were #1 picks. -

So, I guess the most likely scenario is this: Houston - Aiken Miami - Rodon So the sox having to pick among rodon, kolek and nola are not likely. Best case, then, for me is Houston taking Rodon or Jackson. It seems no chance Sox end up with Rodon at this point, so getting a possibility of Aiken is what would excite me most. Houston - Jackson Miami - Rodon -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) We need to keep developing the kids we have and not lose track of what this team is supposed to be doing. I think gaining experience in competitive baseball is awesome for development.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) @AdamSchefter Word around NFL is that when Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson get new deals next year, they will come in between $24-$25 million per year. People seem to be mad that Kap is getting so much money. I think it's great. I hope Seahawks give Wilson 30 million a year. That way they can no longer spend over 60% of their cap money on defense. Haha, well said.

You know, this whole time, the sox continued to be in on Nola. I don't necessarily trust their scouts judgement, but I do think it's possible they actually believe he is the best pick at 3 if Rodon/Aiken are indeed gone.

Happy draft day to everyone.
-
Fun going to bed with leads and waking up with them still there. More fun than Monday anyhow.
-
Hahaha but yeah I don't see why Abreu should go back technically
-
Was there any chance we were all wrong?

Post no-hitter hangover. Come on Danksy.

I have a feeling every QB signed next few years will be "most paid ever". Cap is growing a lot and QBs are important. Also, lack of durability concerns with QBs. They are basically soaking up all money that went to RBs as well.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/mlb-draf...callis-q-and-a/ fun. He thinks Aiken #1.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) Do that many people still listen to baseball games on the radio? let alone when a team sucks that bad. I listened to full sox game on way down to st. louis, and have to say, I was laughing and really enjoyed it. I think I'm actually a Farmer/DJ fan, they are just so awkward together but in a fun way. That said, I'll listen if I'm running errands during game, but mostly watch tv.

After the year he had last year, I'm glad he is being rewarded for the good changes in his approach. If he started to change how he hit and was still terrible, then he'd probably give up on that and keep swinging hard.
-
As we suspected, the white sox are apparently "in on everyone". predraft, gents.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) I hate how when it gets brought up about sale being so good and one of the best people say how they expect him to get injured at any moment. Ok , so until that happens , that doesn't mean you have to take away from what he's been doing. Any pitcher can get injured at any time Agreed. It's like Sale can only get credit for things he has DONE, as if each pitch is his last. For all the dumb predictions analysts make I can't believe they are all so hiveminded that they add on these qualifications on Sale's greatness only being relative to his injury risk.
