QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 14, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) You and ED Begley Jr are about the only ones. I'll wait until I see Algore and others of his ilk act like it is important and do it without being forced to by law. You can thank anyone who lives in a densely populated area for doing their part. Moving to Queens does more to combat climate change than buying a Tesla in Houston.

Osuna is still a pretty good prospect I thought?

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) Ducks won, so game 1 is actually Friday night at 11:00pm CDT This may or may not mean Shaw had a leg amputated. Hahaha

Was there anything I missed with Coespedes and Abreu meeting for first time last series?

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
So, I kinda agree with the sentiment that while most likely meaning nothing, signing all of your draft picks before first camp shows goodwill on side of bears to take care of the players on the business side so they can worry about football. But it may also just mean that bears sign draft picks quickly, full stop.

2014 Draft class
Ugh, I'd hate that. I'm guessing whoever wrote that sox would still be interested in selecting a guy whose getting TJ surgery at a possibly franchise changing selection at #3 overall was doing a favor to the front office in blowing smoke. How could you be sure he'd make a full recovery before surgery had even happened? TJ is not a sure thing.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) I hope you can find the last minute of the game somewhere so you can watch it. The last 20-30 seconds was INSANE. I'll check NHL.com. Also, annoyed how little Katie Baker has written this year in the playoffs. I loved every one of her articles last summer's playoffs.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:41 AM) Amazing how many times those situations end up with no shot getting off. When you have a three point shooter and the play is just to swing them wide around a bunch of screens it usually takes off. BUt they had three 1 on 1 guys out there who basically all tried to decoy out and get a bit of space. It was easy to cover, and then Joe Johnson tried to back down the defense for a what, 20ft fadeaway jumper? It was horrible coaching. Obviously they didn't have a timeout, which you could also say is horrible coaching.

Attendance
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) I actually rode from Bucktown to The Cell for a game a couple times, worked really well, except the mayhem right around the park. I took it slower so I wasn't a sweaty mess, but it was nice, about 8-9 miles. Also walked from Bucktown (Damen/Webster) to The Cell for a game once, just as an adventure. Took the train home. But the walk was kind of a fun cultural experience, seeing all the neighborhoods. Whew that sounds tiring. I want to ride my bike to a game but get confused which roads are good after Pilsen. I thought I was a good walker for walking to UC from Chicago and Damen all the time.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) There was a time the White Sox actually doled out some cash in the draft. It wasn't big money, but in 1982 KW got the highest bonus of any player. He also got the exact same bonus Junior Griffey received as the #1 overall player taken in 1987. Jack McDowell got $5k more than him in the same draft. And Joe Borchard was given the biggest bonus ever at the point he was drafted in 2002. It lasted as a record for several years. I thought Borchard was 00

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) And you can take all of the little one way roads and worry less about getting killed every second. Lawrence and Irving Park are terrifying, lol. I rode irving park for .5 mile to get to Rib Fest one year and I swore to never do it again. As a whole I know most all of the bike friendly roads but I'm rarely that far north.

Attendance
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) Trains are better than buses, and if the weather is OK, a bike is better than a bus. If I take the bus to work, even with bus tracker which will tell me when the bus will be at my stop, it takes about 20 minutes from the time I step on the bus to the time I sit at my desk. It's about 12 minutes from the time I walk out my door until the time I sit at my desk if I take a bike. If I take a bus to work, I will walk home. I don't own a car anymore. I use car sharing. Zipcar. The other thing is, when you are used to it, you walk a lot. Walking a mile or 2, I think nothing of it. When I was younger and lived in the suburbs, I would drive to go half a mile. Agree on all accounts. On weekends going east to west in the city, you will save 30 minutes by bicycling.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) dream big if you are gonna consider moving him. If other teams dont want to pay your price, you still have a very good coach Also, keep in mind that there are very stupid owners in the NBA that want to "be in the playoffs" at all cost with disregard to the idea of waiting to get your franchise player. The idea of getting thibs will be enticing to some dumb team. It's too bad Jordan's team already is out of lottery, he'd probably give us #1 overall.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
No reason to take less. With 2 outside lottery picks this year getting another one does nothing for me. There is no "making it up by volume" in the NBA.

Also FWIW there has been a lot of great discussion on this in the MLB catch all thread regarding Jose Fernandez injury.

Conversation from last night's game
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 14, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) I don't think that's true. Pitchers aren't working their arms that much besides throwing their regimen usually includes running for 45 minutes after starts and squats/lunges and an emphasis on the core. What I found more interesting, something that I can't comment towards intelligibly, was their ideas surrounding the height of the mound. Supposedly if the MLB raised the mound 2-3 inches it would be a lot easier to get the tilt on the offspeed pitches. That would be a good idea but perhaps a tough sell with hitting already dropped off os much.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) I'll take a lottery pick for Thibs. Bring it on. You have to imagine there is an additional talent threshold that would surpass the drop off from Thibs to league average coach (and I think Hoiberg will be a great coach)

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 14, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) I'm sorry what? Nordstrom is brutal. But you can slot Regin in. Or #freemorin. With the Hawks, he could be deceased and they'd still call it day to day. No good information coming out. It wouldn't surprise me if he was out the whole playoffs, even if they say "day to day" and now "closer to being day to day" I'm talking gut feeling. A yahoo article said he should be back any day now, and I thought how in the hell would they know. I think 75% he's out for playoffs 20% he's back for game 3-4 this series, 5% his leg was amputated out for career.

White Sox at Athletics - 5/14 - 2:35 - CSN - Game 3 of 3
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) The line up is soooo different with him out. I didn't want to hop in to the "Robin is an idiot" arguments, but I think I can see his mindset, where he'd rather just plug in some temporary players in leadoff and not mess with the players actually hitting in their lineup spots. I am not sold on it but I can understand it. But with Eaton suddenly the lineup becomes "HELL YES WHITE SOX BASEBALL"

I kind of feel like this, if losing Thibs is inevitable, then I'd rather we trade him and get something.
