  1. I uh, would give more than a 7th, so that's why the bucs would trade with the bears. You get a receiver for cheap next year, when there are 0 wide receivers available in FA, can front load an extension before Fields is needed to be paid. OR you get a comp pick the next year to ease the pain. But there is no help in free agency next year. The receivers int he first round are all relatively small, and this team desperately needs a big bodied guy that isn't just a possession receiver.
  2. It really just seems like a free for all for the most part, and things like COVID and a lockout probably impact this team more than the ones that take control over more prescriptive tools and programs for the players to follow. Did not really have a positive view on how this group of players prepared for the year with the lockout in a year they were expected to compete for the championship. Except Cease ilysm
  3. There was an athletic article in osney(?) or whomever the Astros manager was that had Ozzie jr or whatever the other brother was yelling at everyone in the comments lol. They are the most online of baseball families.
  4. Even *I* heard things, he was telling all his friends who include quite a few former players in the area.
  5. Jeter made Arod move to 3rd. Listen roids aside it certainly is a sliding doors moment that probably leads to a WS for the sox or leads to the same situation where the strike ruins it BUT These examples are silly to me or frank seems right. Here's a fun anecdote from me interviewing lance johnson when I was 8: "Me: Why don't you learn how to fucking hit so you can provide better protection to the rest of the lineup instead of blaming the best player on the team for not giving up at bats? Johnson: Wow"
  6. I, personally, would have explored Adrian Beltre.
  7. Kevin long would be such a good hire. My god, I will take the over on every single Eloy prop next year obviously he'd get injured on day 1 if I do that but point stands.
  8. I agree, but I also think Thome would be a really good manager. I just think people keep hoping sox will feel a wakeup call to act differently and hope the manager search will be that.
  9. Sadly I think this is not necessarily a reflection of the fans being overzealous as much as not trusting the F.O. at all and hoping they go based off of resume/best org. The best-run franchises of late have been hiring former players/internal managers. I don't think any Sox fan trusts the sox to know the good interpersonal skills people for that. So instead, you'd point to: Melvin (no brainer), Kevin Cash (bullpen coach for Francona), Cora (WS bench coach though obviously a down year). I think even in recent history, the first Ozzie hire was very popular. Sox fans from my memory were obsessed with that Marlins team (not surprising, it slayed the Yankees and Cubs) and he was their 3b coach and popular former player. Manuel didn't work out, but I don't think anyone has a problem with trying out a 3b coach from the mid 90s expos and then Leyland's WS Marlins. So I guess when our off-resume signings fail, I think fans want to go back to the IBM of coaching candidates. You would think Hahn/JR/KW would also feel that way, but JR at this point prioritizes conformity and congeniality to winning.
  10. I think you buy the trenches, and am a bit more confident now that Mike Evan’s will be available this offseason.
  11. I don't think so, I was surprised too but because of his salary and basically everyone planning for regression I think bears would have taken a 3rd for quinn instead of trading Mack for a 2.
  12. I love paul konerko but like, the way he approached 2014 (from stories I've heard) wasn't exactly Yadi/Pujols-like exit. I say this as someone who was creeped out by the church of Yadi, but I think you'd be crazy not to see if he'd want to jump into managing soon.
  13. I still am a little annoyed treating Willie Harris in the same vein as "well they are already here" guys like Getz/Thome/Ozzie to an extent. He has a pretty classic trajectory right now. He's done it in multiple orgs, Starting in sox but then going to Giants, Reds and then Cubs as the 3rd base coach. Some of those aren't winning orgs but ...it's the bench coaches. By all accounts he still brings a lot of energy and is well-liked. You could do a lot worse. I'll say again, you can't retrofit a smarter organization on top of the sox just by hiring someone from the astros. Of the duties a manager is responsible for, Harris seems like a competent choice.
  14. Also loved when him and Soto(?) showed up in LA to cheer on Max Scherzer last year.
  15. I’m pro Kevin long but pretty sure he is not a pro analytics guy so prepare yourselves for that. He is a phenomenal hitting coach, however.
  16. because teams have been blitzing the edge to force him in the pocket, so if you bring in help, you are rolling out with only one or so options.
  17. Yeah, especially the scouting director/player dev seminars. Very fun for nerds like me.
  18. So much for my “belicheck will figure it out” heuristic. Very happy that Bears look like this after a bye. Excellent job by the bears staff. Major major growth tonight.
  19. The stadium is burning down and we’re like “should they grab the bucket or the garden hose? No, no they wont grab the gasoline can right?”
  20. Not a lot of competition for Thome or Getz right now and you know how JR feels about competing against himself.
  21. Every NPL developed pitcher screams arm issues.
