  1. All this stuff makes sense on its face, but I balk a bit at the actual guys. I just think we are talking about a very questionable clubhouse at this point. You subtract Abreu, and in to fill the void is Mike Clevinger - guy who lies to his team going out on the quarantine year during a 60 game season while playing for the playoffs including getting on the plane and having clubhouse turn against him - and Mike Conforto - guy who during the most important few months of his life injures himself "training" (at a bachelor party). And Lux...he's fine. His best quality is that he's left handed.
  2. $2.16M for money but not all are available so you are talking about holes elsewhere or prospects. James Outman is 25, Stone Garrett is 26, Bellinger is only 27. Outman also struck out 150 times in between AA and AAA, that's about the same swing-and-miss as Bellinger in the majors. Garrett hits RH. He also is good defensively and is fast. He's left handed. That doesn't sound like bad money after bad. It's risky during a contention window due to the lower guarantee of production, but that is the case with the others.
  3. I actually don’t know lol.
  4. Man it is astounding to realize that bellinger would have led our team in HRs last year off his bad year. I do think given the LH batter issue we kinda need to take shots like this
  5. Still pissed they didn’t name him hitting coach mid season
  6. Yeah sorry could probably add some instructions there but so long as you add the salaries in the cell adjacent it should calculate it correctly on the team payroll
  7. Cespedes also doesn't look like a great hitter but his defense has been strong and perhaps adds some pop off the bench. And who are we kidding, wouldn't be surprised if Engel makes his way back.
  8. He may have elevated a bit but BA has him ranked 15th and generally considers him a 4th outfielder but to me they have him in a similar place as Kwan. He lacks the contact/bat to ball skills, has power to make upa nd LH with power is something we can and should take a chance on. I think maybe Friedman's extreme long term look may see a likelihood of a QO pick back with Giolito.
  9. I definitely thought this board was crazy with their hangups on LF v RF stuff but holy boy did AJ Pollock teach me that it is very real.
  10. it'll probably be for the brewers
  11. Can't wait for Carlos Perez to hit 40 bombs
  12. I threw out a 2023 plan in like early october that I hadn't actually run numbers on but using the fangraphs crowdsource numbers it actually ended up working out pretty decent: Basically trade giolito for outman/amaya/$$, trade liam for Gleybar, sign Jose, sign bassitt. SP: Cease/Lynn/Quintana/Bassitt/Kopech, rely on graveman and hope team is good and can add at deadline and let some of its prospects improve. I still think if they actually did this it would be a pretty good club. That outfield would scare people, and my initial expectation was AJ Pollock was there. You are thus at a crossroads with using sheets or eloy in LF or seeing if outman is for real. But the original argument was creating a lot more competition on players and less complacency. I was looking to see if Leury could be sent for a bad reliever contract but the only teams that gave multi year contracts last year to disappointing relievers was the chicago white sox.
  13. does not compute
  14. yeah I think around the time I said that I started to see some of the harsh criticism come out. It's just unbelievable they have the record they do.
  15. To me, the white sox depth has arrived. I believe a lot in some of the prospects at the door and continued bat only production from a guy like Burger. That's why it's such a shame this org won't try to get anything closer to big game hunting. On the other hand, we are a top 5 most likely team to land Judge and we can never rule JR out of a big move
  16. He needs to be holding onto his 4 degrees too.
  17. It's an attitude that is cliche atthis point but still can't help but say that I think last year Rick came face to face with the realization that he is not only not as good at this as he thought, but that he's incapable of it. This year is them just retreating into the fetal position as everyone waits for everyone else in the org to end it or voluntarily leave.
  18. You'd have to say " can the white sox make the $10 million work better than Giolito this year plus the possibility of a comp pick" and boy it's hard to say yes. I like my trade still and would do it.
  19. I got excited to make that spreadsheet finally...probably because I just like making them. I've only had the heart to make one. I've never been less enthused. However, I keep thinking that it's very likely that the worst thing that could happen is rick actually tries. I'm fairly confident in Colas and our infield depth turning out as positives. And on dark moments I think about how sheets is a big boy who could have this tin man moment where someone is like "you are no longer a groundball hitter you are a big strong boy". I also realized that I am extremely bummed about Jose in a way that I did not expect.
  20. A bunch of teams that have front offices made deals here.
  21. thanks, thought these would be coming more fast and furious earlier
  22. A big diff with Cam is look at the difference in how they ran with Cam. They ran Cam in goal to go situations like Tim Tebow. I do think it's notable how Lamar Jackson has showed how you can run with less punishment. I didn't think Fields had it in him but he has definitely taken way less hits running way more than he did last year. In the 173 yard game he was hit less than in the texans game. But yes, he still has to evolve. I think it's crazy how productive he's been though given the talent around him. I think our center is probably not as terrible as he was last year. But I think our RT/C positions are below average at best. Our receivers we know about.
  23. I think what gets underrated with Fields still is when Lamar Jackson took over I think a lot of us were like "oh wow what Lamar Jackson did at Louisville is translating". This isn't what Justin Fields looked like at Ohio State. I just will refuse to make a verdict on wilson, lance and fields because their progression has much less precidence. Teams are trying to take guys that had big play ability and bring them along. Not guy sthat showed they could manage the offense and cross your fingers they also have big play ability in NFL. It's hard, maybe it takes longer. But Fields was an incredible athlete who loved to throw it deep but had a knack for big plays. Gets to NFL and realizes what can be taken away, but learns he's faster than every lineman and linebacker. Soon he'll learn what that means for hitting the deep ball and middle of field. Or not. We don't know, there's no real comparisons here. We have Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. so like 2 guys.
  24. thank you Rejected, is a FA Willson Contreras Chris Bassit Nathan Eovaldi Tyler Anderson Accepted, is no longer a FA Martin Perez
  25. Yeah but Set-up men are like buying groceries. You pay what you have to. A closer is shopping for a car, way more irrational and romantic. And then graveman, who already had some success as a closer, becomes the budget closer and normalizes some of our bullpen spend. Probably not a great idea for a world series contender but hey.
