  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) Because it comes off that way. You may not agree with Scalia, but to say he is "a hack in all fields" is ridiculous. The guy is a Supreme Court justice...you don't reach that position by being "a hack in all fields." When people say dismissive crap like that in such absolute form, it's just over the top ridiculous and pointless. I think Scalia veered into hack territory after his celebratory book tour and ACA screed which featured large political tangents that were not even a part of the case.
  2. He also has a terrible back, which was one of the reasons he left. I can't see him leaving to build up a team like this.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 06:42 PM) "Let me be clear that I have nothing against homosexuals, or any other group, promoting their agenda through normal democratic means." The majority's "invention of a brand-new 'constitutional right'", he wrote, showed it was "impatient of democratic change". Yeah, again it's the problem with 9 people in robes deciding what the nation should think, as opposed to letting people do it. LOL.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) I realize why there was a bigger reaction. But IMO the everyday gun violence is a way bigger issue than mass shootings, but since the everyday violence is secluded to a few bad neighborhoods, the majority of people don't concern themselves with it. I agree. However, if you were to tell me that more gun control laws would lower these murder rates but would not solve mass murders, I'd sign on in a heart beat.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) I think he views that as a social issue that should be decided by the states, not 9 people in robes. He's pretty consistent with that general philosophy in his opinions. I don't think you could read his comments or opinions in cases like lawrence and not come to the conclusion that he believes that gay acts are immoral.
  6. To be fair, it's pretty clear that Scalia does hate gays.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) The Republicans don't seem to realize it yet, but as it stands, their party is dead man walking. They need to step back, reevaluate what "center-right" actually means, start communicating this to the party and to the people...but changes need to be made internally. The Democrats have their own problems, but as it stands, IMO, they're the more sane of the two parties at the moment...and this is coming from me. I hope this is the end of the suicide pacts in washington. These austerity packages end up hurting real people while not doing much to the politicians elected. Matt Yglesias offered that instead of these cliff packages, the agreement should be that the speaker of the house, senate leader, etc get kicked in the nuts if they don't come to an agreement. It makes more sense. However, I do kind of enjoy how we have this huge austerity package to dramatically reduce the debt. And suddenly this "serious" washington clique that has claimed the debt is the country's biggest problem, is falling over themselves to prevent it because it will hurt the economy. Stupid is as stupid does.
  8. The problem with the Republicans claiming compromise is that they can't deliver their sides votes in the house. They couldn't even pass a ridiculous bill aimed to pass among only republicans in the house. With that in mind, they are going to need heavy democratic support, so the idea that the democrats need to give 90 and them only 10 is delusional.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) What is backing into the playoffs and getting clobbered in the first round really worth? Does that really make you feel that much better about the Bears? It does nothing for me. I'd much rather be a playoff team than the 7th place team in the conference. It won't change our draft position.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) I want the Vikings to win because it could cost GB a bye and thus hurt their chances of reaching the Super Bowl, and the Bears aren't going anywhere even if they do make it in. I have better things to do on January 5 than watch the Bears lose by 30+ at SF. Really? You really care about the packers losing more than a possible Bears playoff? I can see the argument "I'd rather the bears lose so that we get a regime change", but this is just ridiculous.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) ESPN was saying the Nets are trying hard for PJax While I can always see Phil going back to the lakers due to his relationship with Kobe and Jerry Buss, I can not see him wanting to take on a project like this. I have no idea who you can bring in with Deron Williams.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 12:55 AM) that's basically like saying that books make people dumb because they can just read them to learn stuff, rather than endless trial and error. Though snarky, I think this cuts to the heart of the point. I think it's possible the internet accelerates the poor learning behavior jenks is worried about. But that behavior was there prior to the internet. The difference between students regurgitating 50 online sources now, is only different in that they previously regurgitated 10 print sources. American students were trained to do 1 thing, navigate what you need to do to get a good grade. Sometiems the teacher sets this up so they learn a lot, others it sets it up so the student is just hustling in the class.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) You can remove/edit that in your mail settings if it bothers you. I changed it to phone, but I do find it helpful to keep in there so people can understand why an answer may be succinct, as well as grammatical answers.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) A number of places like Target, CVS, and Walgreens are developing small, cheap facilities, staffed usually by nurse practitioners, who can provide basic services like lab tests, flu shots, physicals, etc. They're quite useful, particularly if you don't have an existing relationship with a physician. I use this for common cold, but I had bronchitis quite often and am good at getting ahead of the symptoms. Sometimes, not so good.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Well, people should exercise.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) From 4-5 to 11-5 and league champs. Same. AP and Romo's strong second halfs made my team unbeatable. The one week I benched romo was to start Kaepernick and his 4TD game (which was oddly low scoring due to 4 fumbles)
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) As long as that turd is locked up and not the maniacs who wind up going on mass shootings then I'm happy. you just walked into quite the trap.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/art...ity-skills.html Perhaps it's my old ass 30 years on this planet, but I totally get his point. I think the internet/google is an amazing tool that is making people smarter (no more need to debate over certain facts, just look them up instantly on your phone). But on the other hand, kids/people look stuff up on the internet instead of thinking for themselves or creating something for themselves. Thoughts? Unsurprisingly it's an article not backed up with anything remotely objective or scientific, and just about how an old person thinks this next generation has it too easy.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) Better to get rid of her than have her deal with sexual harassment because he's unprofessional/a perv. He's pretty lucky he didn't get countersued with sexual harrassment, and not discrimination. The texts and comments were absurd.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) I thought The League took a pretty huge step backwards this season. The shows premised on dudes arguing gets pretty old after a while, and it seems like they try to compensate by leading their plots into the absurd. With Sunny, 3 out of every 5 scenes, and sometimes whole episodes, come off as bad sketch comedy.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) Dr Connelley over on North and Milwaukee was pretty awesome when I lived near Wicker Park. Northwestern Memorial Physicians group. Great, thanks!
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) So important it was posted 3 times. When you are in a mall in Sacramento, you let people know.
  23. So, I never had a "doctor" growing up. My mom always took me around to different clinics. I also rarely was sick. The consequence is now I have no idea where to go when I need a GP and dread dealing with it. Last year I just randomly chose two GPs based off location in my insurance web site, and they were dreadful experiences. Does anyone know a good network to look into? All of my friends still go home to their docs and that's too far for me. Any help appreciated.
  24. I got a concussion from facepalming Kaps responses.
