QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) You do realize this press conference was called in response to what happened in Libya...one day after the incident. Gee, I wonder what his vague and ambiguous mention of "act of terror" was referencing. He should have literally held our hands and spelled it out as it's obvious not a single conservative in America had any idea what he was talking about. You didn't build that

I actually thought it was a good debate. You guys are just acting too cool.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) The Bears, who have the highest ticket prices in Chicago, are always completely sold out. 8 home games with only 26,000 seats more than white sox games. If baseball were 8 home games, i'm pretty sure the sox would sell out.
  4. 60% value is considered a toss-up by RCP. This race was over in september. All Obama had to do was appear like he still cared about being president.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 10:12 PM) Regardless of what you think of Obama... no President has come into office facing an economic situation as dire as Obama did, since the Great Depression at least. And few enter office with two major wars ongoing. He had both. I don't think there has been a President since FDR that inherited a mess on anything like the same scale as Obama did. So I don't begrudge ObamaCo pointing to that regularly. The big questions of course are about what he's done about it, and/or not done. I think the best part about a Romney presidency is of course we'll finally get stimulus. Since by his tax plan it's clear he doesn't care about deficits, the country can finally start tackling the unemployment problem. Of course, that's an incredibly cynical ploy by them the past 4 years, but apparently it worked.
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) Why. Is Romney pulling ahead? Too lazy to check dailykos Romney +4.
  7. New daily kos poll means it's panic time.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) The AMT is pretty much a deduction cap, isn't it? He wanted to cap deductions at like 17k, which would be more meaningful the higher you go up in income than the AMT.
  9. I hope Nashville shows up in the Dem column! SHOW ROCKS.
  10. Over all, the Democratic list contained a lot of animated comedies — “The Cleveland Show,” “Family Guy,” “American Dad” — as well as lightly viewed but critically acclaimed sitcoms like “30 Rock” and “Community.” The favorite late-night show for Republicans was Jay Leno’s “Tonight” show.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) actually, it is. you can't even name 1 thing the GOP has done that you agree with. time to re-evaluate. perhaps you are part of the problem. I think Romney's idea of capped deductions is very interesting and a quality idea to look into. But what's the time frame here? The GOP congress of 2010-2012? They haven't done anything. They've voted 212 times to repeal obamacare for no reason.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) And why were they taking that risk? Because they could just sell the loans to Fannie and Freddie. And German banks and Iceland banks and to each other and to everyone.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 05:41 PM) But Fannie and Freddie bought up those terrible sub-prime mortgages and were allowed to continue to do so by the congressional Dems. All i'm saying is it's not exactly honest of Biden to point to Ryan and say "this is all on you guys." This was a problem that took decades to develop, even if the wars became a substantial cost later on. I understand that, but after that travesty of risk management by the worlds financial institutions, the republicans only response to the financial regulation bills was to make sure it didn't pass, and then put in a congressman to lead the house banking committee whose belief is the banks should regulate themselves. And also, lots of companies were buying up those terrible sub prime mortgages. BUT, I am against the democratic support of Frannie and Freddie and I do not believe they add value to the united states. However, I do not think the "it was wall street" " not it was exclusively these two banks that the democrats like" explain anything on the ridiculous behaviors that contributed to the global financial crisis.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 05:36 PM) Or Barney Frank, Obama and other congressional Dems allowing the sub-prime crists to happen: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122212948811465427.html Fannie and Freddie had their part in the housing crisis. But a lot of things had their part in the housing crisis. The issue wasn't sub-prime themselves, it was the belief that there was no national housing market, and that wallstreet was safe as long as they diversified s***ty loans in florida with s***ty loans in arizona.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) No, but their "owning a home is a right" mantra directly contributed to the housing bubble bursting in the midst of those wars. I don't recall the Dems exactly fighting Bush on the prescription drug plan either. And both parties have failed miserably in keeping Wall Street in check so.... yes, both are to blame for the recession. The republicans did a parlor trick to extend the voting deadline 15 minutes to whip more votes to get it done.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) You mean the deal made and signed by GW Bush. Obama ended the war over 2 years into his own term, BECAUSE of a signed pact by President Bush (fact). Obama asked them (Iraq) if we could leave troops there AFTER that deadline. Read the HuffPost article. "President Obama wanted to stay longer -- as recently as a few weeks ago asking the Iraqi government to allow 10,000, then 3,000 troops to remain past New Year's Eve. But the president ultimately had no choice but to stick to candidate Obama's plan -- thanks, of all things, to an agreement signed by George W. Bush." But to be fair, that was an explicit part of the Obama stump and McCain vehemently disagreed about providing a deadline. In the middle of that Bush signed that pact because there was also urgency on the Iraqi side to do so. And that Obama oversaw that transition and enforced it is something he should get credit for.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) When Obama debated, I saw the moderator, the altitude, global warming, and even that Obama lost on purpose to make better commercials as excuses for why he didn't debate well. Sure you did.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) I can't really speak for anyone else...but if you posed me the following question, "Are you doing better now than you were four years ago?", the answer is yes, with a few 'strings' attached. If it wasn't for the ever rising local taxes, fees, stickers, etc...I'd be doing better, but with them, I'm not. I don't blame the Obama administration for this, either. I suppose you could, if he'd been more successful getting more stimulus he could have plugged that into local governments to cover their tax shortfalls. Romney 2012!

Ryan please answer a question on Romney's opinion on how to deal with a detroit. "Romney loves cars. One time he helped out a family that got injured in a car crash. I believe that answers your question."
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) The top 10% are paying 45% of taxes. 47% pay nothing at all. The system is not progressive. That makes absolute sense to me. 47% pay no income taxes at all. Not no taxes.
  21. I find it irresponsible that the NFL would let the skins play RGIII 7 days after a concussion
  22. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) The dude has played 21,000 minutes and 634 NBA games. I don't need preseason know exactly what he is, and that is something I don't enjoy watching play basketball. hahaha
  23. It doesn't make SS2k5's point interesting. It's not like "Government job" is one entity. These would be hundreds of state local and federal agencies reporting. The monthly data's first number is rarely accurate. It's a lot of data to put together in one week, so they do revisions. They didn't start doing this in September 2012. But also, July Aug woudl feature a lot of seasonal teacher hiring. If you look at the past year of data it's clear the seasonal adjustments aren't amazingly accurate. But nonetheless, for the first time in 2 years the public sector hadn't negated some of the private gains. That's a good thing for the recovery.
  24. Mizzou is going to be a fun experiment this year. Loads of experienced talent that have not played very long together. Pressey, Dixon, Bowers, Oriakhi is a good core. Then you have Criswell Keion Bell Earnest Ross and Jabari Brown (December). Lots of talent there and Bell and Ross luckily practiced with the team all year. But anything could happen. Maybe they'll even get out of the first round.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) I like the headphone jack on the top, alot. Agreed, the old ipod touches that had it on the bottom really pissed me off.
