Looks like mizzou G Jack Meiners just has a strained MCL and may be back for Georgia. Super pumped to hear that. I was fearing he was out for season. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 03:42 AM) When I originally saw Romney's comment the first thing I thought was "yeah, that's because white people don't have to always worry about proving they belong." The concept is totally unfamiliar to Romney (and frankly most white people) and he probably doesn't even get why it's not funny, so I really doubt he was actually making a racist comment. But seriously, that's what that means. exactly. Mother f***ers father is from mexico.

Super excited for DGB's first game. He's been a gem in scrimmages. But very worried about mizzou's offensive line woes. 3 starters down to injury. -
Obviously this is online as well. But I'd encourage you all to buy the most recent Atlantic for Ta-Nehisi Coates' Fear of a Black President article. Much props to the magazine for giving that much space. It was incredible.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) Outside of OKC, that list includes some of the least profitable frachises in the league. Also, it's not population size that determines a "major market" as much as possible fan base and revenue streams. Looking at the largest US metropolitan areas (obviously this is only cities with NBA teams, and I'm omitting some of the larger markets/bigger NBA fan bases): 4) Houston 2.1 million estimate in 2011 5) Philadelphia 1.5 6) Phoenix 1.47 7) San Antonio 1.4 12) Indianapolis 820k 17) Charlotte 750k 18) Detroit 706 k 20) Memphis 625k 21) Boston 625k I don't really think you'd try to argue that Boston isn't a much better market/location than the teams above them. Also, if we are going to go by population size, San Diego (8) and San Jose (10) seem like much better options. Pretty much. Virginia Beach is already taken care of. They have the Wizards.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) Not sure if I agree, but here's one argument the other way. The thing with that, though, is a lot of those are recent transplants, and I feel that a big part of success is identity. If you move to a smaller market, it better be one with a strong identity. Not just a mass of people that might be down for an afternoon ball game.

Simmons tweeted that it was bogus, and it's mostly rumors coming out of virginia beach, not sacramento or the league.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Definitely for the season. No way he gets out of this one... Tennessee literally has the worst luck of any program in college football. FML... I wouldn't call that bad luck. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) Well it was a polemic, not a detailed and nuanced policy proposal. He said it really stupidly. And I don't even like the framing. Why not flip it and try to convince people that these public services we pay for are important because they help our small businesses grow. He opened himself up for this by creating a framework where he's confronting small business owners for taking sole credit for their success...that's a tough framing. People like small business owners. And in general, small business owners do have a s*** ton of legal frameworks to jump hoops around that we should be working to simplify.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) What kind of different scoring? Rotoworld has it where you can change point values for TDs, points per yard, INTs thrown, fumbles lost, etc. You can also add points for 300 Yard Passing Games, 100 Yard Rushing Games, and 100 Yard Receiving Games. Great, thanks!

I didn't see a fantasy thread, so as not to derail, just a quick question. Is there a place for fantasy football, like with baseball prospectus, where you can pay for a draft kit where you put in the scoring for your league and they shoot out your best value? My leagues scoring is kinda weird.

I agree, we should let the government negotiate rates.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) Granted I can't watch a lot of games, but it seems like his stretch call has been more effective this year. My favorite is hawk in his old age continuing to push the limits of what swear-like language he can say. My true-favorite moment was during a outfield fly in a crucial man on base situation, hawk yelling "DROP THE DARN BALL" to the outfielder.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) I thought the mention of Eric Gordon ended this debate. Me too.

3 years 19.5 million for a starting QB really isn't that expensive. While I'm sure the Seahawks wished they could have acquired a sure thing at QB with years of NFL starting experience that showed they would be great, those players aren't that easy to come by. But Flynn's 3 games for GB weren't meaningless, and he kicked ass. It doesn't mean he will be a guaranteed probowler, but it is a lot more info to go off of than projecting college play to the NFL. Russel Wilson might end up being really good, but even if he is, they'll just have a really cheap starting QB and a fairly expensive backup (similar to the titans). As far as planning, I think signing Flynn and hoping for the best with Wilson is better than just drafting wilson and hoping for the best. But oh what a great irony it would be if wilson kicked ass for a few games as a backup and rode his way to Starting QB territory.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) Remember when Hawk thought Youk's granny was a routine sac fly? I was watching in a bar with no sound on. Coming off the bat I thought it would be a pop up to second.

There's no reason to use these college stats as opposed to actual NFL game film which they could evaluate him on. NFL teams have scouts for these very situations.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) Im saying you cant look at it in a vacuum and pretend that the NCAA games didnt occur. You actually can do this.

Remember when Youk hit that granny?

I don't really care, at all, about college. Delhomme was a backup in Nola that showed occasional brilliance. Hasselback was Favre's backup, that Holmgren traded for. Nobody cares about college. BUt there is precedent for handing a former NFL backup a starting job based off limited action.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) I don't wish to sound like an insurance company shill here, despite full disclosure that I presently work for one. Insurance companies do a lot of things I disagree with, a lot of things the ACA actually corrected for the better. But it takes more than insurance companies to mess this up...the doctors/hospitals/drug companies share a majority of the blame, but haven't been touched. Remember, they're the ones that send the arbitrary and exorbitant bills...but nobody seems to care about that. It's all the insurance companies fault. I really agree with you. I think politically it was just easier to use the insurance companies cost-saving mechanisms to help lower costs, while reducing the barriers to getting insurance. As you saw, it's really hard for the government to take on cost-cutting measures without people screaming about death panels. But also, it's really hard to go after doctors and hospitals, like soxbadger said. People respect doctors, one of the few institutions that people still DO respect. So to say "we're going to cut down on doctor pay/ we're going to pay less" etc. it's just too easy to frame as taking the decisions out of doctors hands and into the hands of BUREAUCRATS.

Eh, Matt Hasselback, Jake Delhomme, we've seen these small sample size QBs get signed to be starters before and it has worked out. Not everyone is Kolb.
