  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) something tells me that the Second Mile foundation will not survive this There are many other charities not run by child rapists that can take its place.
  3. I had a quote last year that tried to encompass his brilliance and idiocy. I do believe he is both. But being an NFL football coach is hard, and he's a good one. Even our awful 2009-10 season I can't believe we got to 7 wins. While I'm still confused why he thinks Martz would be a good OC for his type of game, but he has attracted good assistant coaches. Best of all being Tice.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) Now that would be funny. The owners don't NEED their franchises. They've made their money elsewhere. The players on the other hand...well...good luck with your day to day jobs. yes, the owners could easily swallower their 500 million dollar investments going bunk. The Maloofs especially could swallow that.
  5. We can't all be doctors.
  6. Matt Schaub has a hand injury too?
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) I wouldn't look past San Diego or Oakland. San Diego has enough talent to whoop anyone in any given weak and the Raiders are a very tough, physical football team. They are a solid squad that I expect to get better as Palmer jells a bit. Their rushing attack is fierce. I agree, I won't take them lightly, i consider them a "toss-up", however, I AM excited about our special teams going upa gainst theirs. They are better than last year, but I'm still excited for it.
  8. you guys need to knock on some wood. I'll just say this, prior to the eagles game I looked at the schedule. I gave a very conservative estimate of 5 winnable games, 2 toss ups and 2 losses. We've won the toss up and the loss. So I DEFINITELY feel we'll beat vegas.
  9. Anyone looking for a good bean in Chicago I suggest getting some bags from star lounge. Dark matter coffee is my favorite to make from home.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 11:25 PM) No they dont. The deadline has changed, and the players have changed their percentage to favor the Owners everytime the deadline has changed. The owners have been slowly grinding out the players, and soon Stern is going to say "f*** you all, we are going to get 47 percent and you are going to like it. And if you dont like it, we will wait you out" The players originally wanted nothing less than 54 percent, then 52.5, then 52, 51, now they are at 50. Exactly, and s*** like the Dleague exceptions are just to change the negotiating points away from BRI to that stuff..."well we'll take out the dleague exceptions for another .5% in BRI"
  11. I think Duke Belmont will be a fun one to watch tonight.
  12. players are getting under my skin now. They should have taken 51%. They won't get a deal more than 50% anymore. They will start to dissect. They are giving up millions. Sigh.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break..._medium=twitter I.e. "I'm being forced to." Also, awesome article. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/721835...ing-made-simple
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) They were informed 4 years earlier about another incident. THEY could have ended it there, without any of Paterno's additional input. But the fact is, even when the cops are involved, and the DA has been notified (of the 2002 incident) NOTHING f***ING HAPPENED. So no, you cannot say with certainty that Paterno's notification to the police would have resulted any differently here. Now, whether Paterno could have used other means to get this s*** out, that's another issue. And he certainly could have told Sandusky to get the f*** out even if the police/university didn't. I can say with certainty that had Paterno gone to the police, he would not be the ire of so many right now. But he didn't, so you are hanging on that it wouldn't matter. I disagree, but do know that at the point of him filing a police report on record would satisfy many's threshold for conviction and compassion in the face of evil.
  15. I don't understand how you find those to be mutually exclusive. But I suppose the senile hapless Paterno was just wandering around on campus saying "I'm a football coach" while all these evil doers were acting around him.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) This is just such oversimplification. There are always degrees of blame. There are degrees of culpability and responsibility. Stop trying to treat this man, who was at the time in his mid-seventies, and accused widely of being completely senile, as if he was the f***ing Don of a mafia organization. This "most powerful man in Happy Valley" statement is such nonsense and belies all common sense. He was the most powerful man around the football team, not the Administration, not the University. Go read an article about him before this all happened. He doesn't have email. He doesn't have a cellphone. Paterno is certainly not the victim here. But that doesn't mean he isn't a victim here. What? Who cares? Who cares that he doesn't have email or a cellphone. If the most revered man in that town goes and asks for a police investigation into a child rape, they would respond. If he goes in and asks for a cheeseburger, they would go get one. Paterno apparently got a sweetheart deal on his property ... why? Because he's joe paterno. But, yes, I see, it is more probable that he wouldn't follow up on the child rape, it's because he was senile. He clearly just forgot about it!
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) Just to be clear. If someone tells you they saw a crime, it becomes your responsibility to make certain it is investigated. Just to drive this home tex, if one of your scout masters told you they saw a boy get raped, and you told your superiors, then continued to see that man around business as usual for years, and then a scandal hit showing that he was continuing to rape boys... people may ask that you no longer hold that duty. And in that scenario, you didn't get raped, you aren't going to jail, you just lost your job. Poor you. You are clearly the biggest victim here. Joe Paterno was the most powerful man in Happy Valley. Without a doubt. Within his football administration was a man serially raping young boys in large numbers, none yet completely known. At some point, he was told about this. No criminal charges were ever filed against this man. The public gets notified. He loses his job. The serial rapist being around is the problem here. All those that knew are tainted. You can't move on without removing that stain. Hopefully, those victims can. But no, I don't care that poor Joe Paterno has to retire comfortably in his old age. He is not the victim here.
  18. How dare people form opinions based off primary and news sources instead of hypothetical moral candyland
  19. Guys, stop giving PSU a pass, their legendary football coach that was synonymous with Penn State for 60 years has just been kicked out for his negligence in a serial child rape case on campus from his defensive coordinator for decates was fired, along with their president and AD. And students rioted over these revelations. Why do they get to have their cake and eat it too. Start saying something negative about Penn ST! green needed?
  20. what are you TALKING ABOUT
  21. He reported it to PSU 9 years ago. Continues to see person on campus, for 9 years. Still a danger to kids, throughout that time. Soxbadger, if you were manager in an office where someone told you he saw X raping a kid in the office, and you told HR. And nothing. And he's still employed. Yes, I would damn well say YOU should be FIRED for your role it what turns out to be a systemic failure. Not that you should get thrown in jail, but all who were tainted by this travesty should no longer be employed.
  22. Yes soxbadger, people always believe people in power at face value. We are so incredibly wrong. JoePa, as stated a million times, may not have done any illegal action, but sometimes that does not matter. A child molester was running rampant in his program. You should take a PR class.
  23. And yet, despite the special ire people hold for the specific priests that molested children, they are still very angry at the church for protecting their own and not the children. There is no moral uncertainty on what should happen to Sandusky. But with Paterno and Mcquarry there is uncertainty in others about what responsibility we all have to protect the vulnerable. And to those like myself who find that they failed miserably, there is more determination to make sure that is voiced. Just because JoePa might not be legally responsible, does not mean he morally culpable to the problem. Sandusky was using his status as a PennSt. former coach, his access to their facilities, to rape children. And they knew it. If Sandusky was shooting fish in a barrel, they provided the barrell and water and didn't ask for why.
  24. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) I just heard news of the firing this morning. Without question, it absolutely had to be done. I'm doing face palms over some of the posts on here arguing the contrary. He was the head of the program under which this occurred, and in many ways, "the most powerful man on campus." Talk about a "lack of institutional control": When something this heinous happens, those at the top bear ultimate accountablity and must pay with their jobs. His contract was up anyway, and he "retired" just hours before. BFD. Sorry, devils advocates. In the real world, this was an absolute no-brainer. Completely agree. I think the sports lens is what is hurting people here, I feel like it would be completely obvious if it was merely the charity, let alone if these were political actors.
