In the world of people using their platform to do something really cool, here's a post on Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project... Here

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) The Bears have probably faced the best QB they're going to face the rest of the year already (until January 2). Week 4: Eli Manning - decent but not on Rodgers's level plus the Giants are struggling Week 5: Jimmy Clausen - Rookie on a rebuilding team Week 6: Hasselbeck - meh Week 7: McNabb Week 8: bye (note: all of the previous 4 teams are beatable and it's not inconceivable that the Bears could be 7-0 going into the bye) this is the nfl, it never makes sense.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 04:15 AM) Funny thing is.. they showed a few replays with Peppers and even Gruden and Jaws were saying you could call holding penalties on alot of plays from GB's O-Line (you could see them as a fan as well). Peppers is just a beast though. He had no sacks, but had a terrific game all around I thought. one of the plays on third down that turned into a big game, rogers scrambled to his right after evading bears lineman...largely helped by a ridiculously apparent block in the back on Peppers.

the packers are a really great offense so it's expected they get yards. The defense played really well at containing them to 7-8 yard plays. But some of the penalties...I don't know. I have no qualms about penalties that resulted from julius peppers completely f***ing the heads of their olineman. But yeah, they were just absurd in the #, but it's not like any of them were not penalties. As for our offense, there were struggles but we also got about 25 less plays it seemed. I'm really pleased that we just beat two 3-4 defenses. Man this felt great. A MNF win against the packers? Jesus that's been rare in my lifetime.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 25, 2010 -> 08:42 PM) Also Tony fancies himself a baseball god. And he's in a town that has an unhealthy personal worship of their baseball players and managers.

QUOTE (Bighurt500Hrs @ Sep 25, 2010 -> 01:04 AM) Not being critical, but genuinely curious....how does it benefit an 8th grader to know who their senator or representative is? I know this is something we teach but why do we feel this is important knowledge at this age? If I was in 8th grade I would see no benefit to knowing this information outside of being able to pass a test. part of the job of a democracy is to prepare their citizens for their responsibility in the government.

Tyler Colvin impaled by flying bat fragment, hospitalized
bmags replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
So...the flying bat piece was coming from the batter right? At first I thought it said he was scoring from second and someone had like mortal combatted him. -
well, you have adrian peterson and a great oline. Execution should be there.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) The OL play actually got significantly better after Williams went out. Granted Martz's adjustments had a lot to do with it but Williams has been awful so far this year. I've actually been incredibly pleased with martz. 1) He has not given up on the run. I think a lot of people overdramatized the amt. of pass attempts he was throwing in Detroit because they missed the fact that they were down. a lot. And, he's smart enough to know how to make adjustments. ANd also, holy cripes, we can run a screen play! WHOOOWWWWW All things considered we saw how the improvement in our coordinators can lead to wins. Just an excellent job by martz and tice today. I think now we are also seeing that we have a pretty damn good LB core. Lastly, that was great. Good job DJ Moore!

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) Not really. Bigger problem was 6 runs on goal and no td. No pass attempts whatsoever. oh really, 4 turnovers wasn't a big problem?

Official 2010-2011 NCAA Football Thread
bmags replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I know that it was a big play and all, but avoiding a delay of game is one of the more common things in football. Not that it makes it right to miss a call...buttttttttt Anyway. Wow, can't believe we almost lost to SDSU. However, that TJ Moe side step to then getting a block that knocked out 2 sdsu players was one of the cooler plays I've seen. I was feeling pretty good earlier but now...jeeze i'm worried about Miami(OH) and worry that our brutal stretch might dismantle us and pin us at 7 or so wins. -
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 06:53 AM) 2nd Interview. That was truly one of the worst first questions in an interview I've ever seen.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Are you saying if these women you work with wore something they would wear to a club on Saturday night to work, it would be appropriate and your company would have no problem if you or other guys you worked with were to hit on them or make off the cuff remarks? I understand this woman isn't exactly the best example of a professional reporter. She was the one that was asking the Bears during the Super Bowl media day if they would marry her, but still, whether you are an idiot football player or some CEO with 20 advanced degrees, when you are at your place of employment, there are standards you have maintain. good god it took this long for someone to make this point? thank you Dick Allen. I was going crazy.

With LaRussa comes one of the few pitching coaches that are as good as Don Cooper.

QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) I haven't seen the movie (and I won't), but the book is fantastic. The movie looks like a bulls*** Hollywood version that makes white Christian women feel good about themselves. No thanks. That is very accurate to what it was.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Oh wow. That sounds awesome. I would have panhandled to go to that. haha you'd have been murdered prolly.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) I'm pretty sure it is basically an exact remake. It'll make money, especially since I doubt it could have cost too much to make. Hm, just looked it up on Wikipedia. They have it set in New Mexico. I don't know why they would drastically change the setting of the film. I figured they would have it set in Maine or Minnesota. Odd, lots of films are made in New Mexico, perhaps the barren landscape can create an equally eerie atmosphere. I'll read some reviews and maybe I'll see this in a year. I imagine I'll just get frustrated though because I get a lot more annoyed with kid actors in English films because I have to pay more attention to their words pitch and delivery.

Yeah, that too. Just an awesome actor that either chooses great roles or makes lots of roles great.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Well the good news is...we haven't spent time meandering around .500, we've actually been a solid team. The Twins have just been flat out great. They've got a legit shot at home field throughout the AL. Yeah but for a prediction in early june that was pretty spot on. The only thing I was wrong about was that it would be incredibly depressing as a fan, when I actually will look back on this season pretty happy.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 11:01 PM) Yeah, I've always wanted to check out Fabric. I had a subscription to their mix series for quite some time. That can be hit or miss depending on the artist. That's what I was going to say. I enjoy them for a listen but I think removed from the atmosphere and mood of a club they seem a little awkward. That'd be really cool to go to Fabric. When I was in Brazil they talked about taking me to this huge house festival on a beach that goes on for like 24 hrs straight but i would have been too poor to go anyway. It sounded pretty great though.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 06:24 AM) I had to split Chinatown viewings over two nights. I'm a tired old man, what can I say? But, damn what a fantastic film that is. Godfather Godfather II good. I think this and Cukoo's Nest have to be without question the defining films of Nicholson's career. Considering what it meant for his career I think Easy Rider has to be in that list.
