  1. I thought Bayh uttered words FOR it. Nonetheless, if they did it, it should be something where they phase it out in like 10 years.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 04:15 AM) So I walked over to Colombus and Monroe and watched AF's set from across the street. I mean, when they were being drowned out by Soundgarden it was pretty good. They played almost everything off Funeral, but what was off the new record did sound awesome. New album is really great. I don't understand when people call this album boring, b/c i thought neon bible was boring while this album is pretty killer. I kind of want to just head out and go to HEALTH at reggies right now, but, i tied one on last night. Still recovering.

  4. QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) Great game! My last of the year but I ended the season at 6-0. I also walked past KW on the concourse and punched his arm (not too hard). At first I kinda got a wtf expression followed shortly by a smile and a nod. someone's getting traded to new york for a bag of balls.
  5. usually people that become dean of harvard law school are absolutely dumb as hell. Alito on the other hand, brilliant.
  6. you would think the popularity of malcom gladwell would fix a lot of these myths. So it is.
  7. price and technology hopefully.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) One thing worth pointing out in response... College costs are the only thing going up at a rate that makes health care costs look cheap. When we start talking about the disadvantages according to economic status...the last 30 years have seen massive increases in those disadvantages as part of conscious policy choices at the Federal and state level. Retirement packages other than Social Security have been eroded. Medical care costs have skyrocketed, and businesses that offer medical benefits have cut back. Average wages have eroded. Educational costs have gone up, and they've gone up without any sort of offset. These are deliberate choices in many cases. Some have described them as the "ownership society" plan. We finally have slapped a bandaid on the health care part...but that especially only does so much in our new 10% unemployment world. It would be encouraging and wonderful if the bachelors degree lost prestige in the next 30 years or at least some other higher education systems gain footing.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) I'm stoked to see "Step Up 3D." I think it's funny with all these 3d movies trying to utilize the new medium artistically, step up 3d comes out to resort it back to gimmick status.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) it is. but because of the vast conspiracy being leveled against me, it will probably never be used won't stop me
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) i introduced one, but Northside72 refuses to implement it it should be bright yellow, destroying retinas.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) don't blindly disavow a system that is designed to help the disadvantaged regardless of race. remember, the students you are talking about here would certainly qualify for assistance based on need, rather than based merely on race. there should be a mr. genius font.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) the problem with the current 'affirmative action' nonsense is that every group is covered (except the evil evil white male), even ones which are in no way disadvantaged. For example, rich white women or wealthy Asians are not at some disadvantage. If anything, race should not be considered at all and socioeconomic class could be. The current system is badly flawed and should be replaced. yeah, this isn't a bad argument. I'm tired of AA getting so overblown in regards to college. If you really didn't get in in favor of a minority, then you were on the fringe and you could have done a lot more to get in. You probably then went to another school and got a very similar education and your life is not different. I went to school in missouri with kids who'd never been to school with black people before. I'd say that the cultural knowledge they learned was pretty important. And missouri is no model for cultural diversity, i think it's 85 or so percent white, a big part of this is due to the atrocious school systems of st. louis and kansas city, so bad that a lot of their HS aren't even accredited anymore. Those school districts serve mostly black students. The state school, which actually keeps academic standards down to be available to the state (which i actually liked), still only has about 5% black population. But white people are getting screwed, man.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:58 AM) Let's get down to the real issue... What the hell is Jenks doing throwing weak *** offspeed **** to Ramon Santiago and Ryan Rayburn? We're not talking Miguel Cabrera here... what deception was required? Neither one of those guys is capable of getting around on his fastball! Blow them away 1-2-3. Over. Anything else is a freaking waste of time... and improves their chances of getting on base. Bottom line: it was a pitch selection problem. I think if that is addressed, most of Jenks' "problems" go away. This CONTINUES to be the problem.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:33 AM) I don't disagree with your specific point, but pick the word that fits. The larger point here is that federalism has gone WAY too far. It started by what cases the supreme court even chooses to take up. They took up the cases to set the tone for the federal level to define what marriage is, and that's just plain wrong and totally should not be the point in this case. You're not married by the "power vested in xxxxx by the United States of Socialism, er I mean, Amerikkka,", it's the state. And they should be able to define what that is. Explain to me again how that's discriminatory in nature? You discriminate me by trivializing the definition of marriage. Now what? And for the record, I'm not against "gay marriage" even though I totally disagree with it morally, but that is not for me to judge the person/people. you can still marry. It'd be discriminating you if only gays could marry and heterosexuals couldn't.
  16. sure kap, you know me.
  17. STATES RIGHTS
  18. andrew sullivan addressing the judge's sexuality:
  19. this isn't new. Everyone knew at the time of the trial that the prop 8ers got destroyed in every way. That doesn't mean that's how the judge would decide.
  20. California is a state.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) I feel like they could have made more of a legal "this is not the case under the law" argument if they'd wanted to. I'm not sure they really tried. Andrew Sullivan is raising the question whether Scalia would actually be on the side of gay marriage because of Lawrence v. Texas. It's an interesting hypothesis.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) Yeah, like the fact that marriage is in the jurisdiction of states and not the federal government. california
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:11 AM) INTENSE? oooooh we'll have another bulldog!
  24. QUOTE (Allsox @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:08 AM) Edwin's definitely got the stuff to be more than a 5th starter. Just gotta throw some more strikes with his offspeed stuff and he could be Peavy Part II. constantly injured?
  25. wellp, i think it is an equal protection issue.
