QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) LOL, apparently according to the author of this AP article, "most angry" = "most attuned". And to be fair, the author themselves may not have written the headline. That's about a 100% certainty.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:26 AM) Kap, these types of posts really just are flat out annoying and frustrating. Why dont you ever honestly answer people with genuine questions anymore? Or if you dont believe they are genuine, why do you stoop down to that level? Seriously, I would love to hear your reasoning on many of your beliefs, because not only do I think they would be great discussion but also would help people understand another side they may not be used to. I honestly would love it if you would respond with something more than some lameass one liner, and hear some actual debate, and that goes to anyone on this board. Lets actually hear some reason and enough of these stereotypical, generalizing one liners. to be fair, when he does it isn't much better. Remember the NYC Mosque conspirac post about kickbacks from mayor bloomberg?

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) I'm getting nervous now. I have a feeling the trade may not happen. Worse, I'm not sure KW will make any moves. Another arm for the bullpen would be nice right about now. In most trade cases I'd say the longer it goes on the worse of a chance it is, but not with waivers. I'm fairly confident we will acquire him, I think the dodgers just want to act like they still care about winning and not the owners divorce.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) ANYTHING to do with it? OR a CORE of the reason? No, i don't think that. I think it might have moved a single digit percent of the base, max. You're alleging it's basically a core belief of the party, which is just ridiculous. It might be one issue that's important to a small percent of people, but it's not a CORE issue. California just passed a ban on gay marriage. California is heavily liberal. Stop saying it's all republicans when it's clearly not all republicans. It's independents and even some liberals too. You realize there are republican officials that benefited from the money given to that state right? California is a gigantic state in the nation far bigger than the electoral votes given to it. That you can be so blind to this is astounding especially when they admit to it.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) Ireland is a case in point about how slashing government budgets in a hurry during a recession isn't necessarily a good idea. Cutting government spending = higher unemployment = lower GDP = lower revenue http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-inves...article1622863/ isn't it shocking that so many teachers and policeman are losing their jobs? WHY IS THIS GOVERNMENT MONEY GOING TO PLUGGING STATE BUDGETS! THAT DOESN'T GO BACK TO THE PEOPLE!!!

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:16 AM) No, I didn't. Your point is that being anti-gay is a "core" of the Republican party. It's not a "core." Did they talk about it during the presidential debates? It's a fringe, last minute "oh my god we need votes we'll try to get the religious sect out to vote" issue. Well, listen, we can all bring up coincidences, but isn't a coincidence that there tend to be a bunch of anti-gay ballots during congressional seasons when Republicans need seats? Isn't a coincidence that we bring up "oh my god the Mexicans are raiding our borders for their drug wars" during the congressional seats? Isn't it a coincidence that the culture wars routinely get brought up around election time? What a coincidence.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 02:20 AM) That is the most f***ing intelligent thing I have ever read. Here's two different statements, kap: Except you still seem to think that the attention whores are the Muslims. Except you still seem to think that the attention whores are Muslims. That in context denote different things. Here's an example that may be easier: Who broke the pots? Who broke pots?

"the" is an article. Anyway back to intelligent conversation, washington monthly with two great pieces, first: The dropout factories- Talks about colleges woefully failing their jobs in graduating their students (hint: other schools that take much more at risk students do much better jobs) second: the intro to a new way of ranking. I post this in the dem thread because of the amt. of swipes at hedge fund managers. Here is the intro

QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 02:46 AM) grooveshark.com This is true, basically picked up where lala left off (probably better since I never understood what or how much i was paying on lala), but it is also a lot of work to put together a list and stuff. I think that's why pandora is nice cause you can just leave it on. Luckily at my work all of our itunes are on a network and i have a bunch of stuff i can listen to all day.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) I've used Pandora and found more than a few new bands/artists I've dug. It depends on your station though, the more obscure the artist/song, the better, because an office mate of mine put on a U2 station and it basically churned out U2, Coldplay, and RHCP non-stop... I've never really had that problem... devo is a good station.

Theories? Why do the White Sox fade in Aug/Sept. every year?
QUOTE (since56 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) My feelings exactly. If they are so damn good then where are the World Series trophies? I don't buy all the accolades. Such a great organization, when the league was talking about downsizing a few years ago they were one of the candidates. They have a good September record but what about October? For any of you Twin lovers out there I hope their plane goes down with you on it! P.S. This season is not over yet. GO SOX! COol, i hope you die in a car crash on the way to work! FUn?

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) I've heard the argument that the Burlington Coat Factory mosque would be like putting a Japanese monument right next to Pearl Harbor. I still think that's a shallow argument. Al Qaida attacked us, not Muslims. It's more like getting upset over a Chinese monument because Asians attacked Pearl Harbor.

Removing the Fourteenth Amendment
Politically speaking, there is a reason why pensions could get so huge and bloated in the public sector. It's called punting. And while it could raise some hell to give actual wage increases during a political term, it was easy for them to punt 20-30 years down the line when it wasn't their problem. Over and over.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) So Sharron Angle talked about how great privatized social security was under Augusto Pinochet. I wonder what would happen if Obama came out tomorrow and said he was a big fan of certain policies in Cuba during the 70's. You don't have to go that far, look at the ridicule for ever bringing up how a european gov't might be doing something better, you get the "well why don't you live there" and weakness blah blah. And those gov'ts obviously don't brutalize their populations.

Attempt to cheer up White Sox Nation
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) In my opinion, yep. And if they are next to me at a bar or at a game, I'll ask them how their first season is going. You are so much better. Man, any hawks fan that feels their stomach drop when the other teams score, not a fan. When the white sox lose to drop out of first place, if you feel emotion, not a fan. You are ridiculous, you are not that great. Nobody gives a s*** if you think you know the right way to cheer for a team, because for a lot of people it's different. It doesn't make it their first year cheering for the team. Everyone knows baseball teams lose games. But it doesn't mean that losing to a team in august in a first place battle isn't painful. And it doesn't mean you are a better fan. It just means you think a lot of yourself.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) Never impressed me at all Marcus. He's a much better producer than a rapper. Been a hip-hop fan for a long time, and other than his earlier work (which wasn't THAT amazing), he has really fallen off. I find this nonsense. I mean really, to me, there is no more elitist music fan in the world than a rap fan. They create this false facade of what rap is, and anyone that doesn't fit that equation is "bad". It's terrible for the genre, they hold everything up and just spit nostalgia about ninety-f***ing-four, but who gives a s***. Kanye's wordplay and flow might not be up to nas or reasonable doubt jay-z era, but his ability to use his medium to move, to speak to people is as good as anyone. His simplicity works. He may be an arrogant piece of s*** in real life encounters, but when he's rapping, he's introspective and honest in ways very few mcs are. I think the kanye hate is always hating some idea of the way a celebrity should be, and they are mistaken. If you want the f***ing jonas brothers, go have them. But this dudes ambition and arrogance is not his problem, it's his biggest asset, because he realizes it and uses it to make great pop songs.

frankly, if we are speaking economics, it doesn't bode well for anti-immigration.
