  1. How 'bout some. Especially for the tech companies. http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/2010/12/patent-madness/
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Regardless of whether he hit him in the back of the head, it has been described as unnecessary and a "non-football" move. I think the issue with the hit was what most of us in this thread pointed out - it was completely unnecessary to hit Cutler in that manner. It's pretty clear the NFL is trying to enforce the fundamental method of tackling instead of a take him down however you want free for all. This. This year especially with all that's come out with head injuries I've tried to be reasonable about any flag on hits to the helmet/qb that I'd used to be upset about. Yes, these players get paid well, but I don't think someone should get brain damage just to protect my idea of football.
  3. Mizzou and Vandy last night had a GREAT game. I honestly don't remember a time where a lead was built up over 3 points.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) I'm in a bit of a rut. Graduating in May with a degree in Business Administration/Management, and have no interest in pursuing sales, accounting, finance or marketing related jobs. My passion is still there for sports and I've decided that sports information at the university level is the way to go, or to get a job within the university setting closer to home. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there are any jobs in that. I write well. I communicate decently but I am not energized by people. I was offered a graduate assistantship here but I am not sure if I can stomach two more years of business courses that I won't ever use just to stay here...the only other program is the Master's of Organizational Leadership and I don't think that is helpful to employers. Are there any PR/Communications related jobs or should I just go get a Master's in PR/Sport Management? Also have an interest in education again. Does this situation sound familiar where you're about to graduate and have no idea of what to do next, but want to avoid getting sucked in by these crappy jobs with "unlimited earning potential" or jobs at Enterprise where you are working 50+ hours a week? My only ideas are to either take the grad assistantship and stay in school till I'm 25 for a degree I won't use and will put a C effort into in exchange for work experience in something that I want to do, go home and work part-time while I get an internship or volunteer in the field I'm interested in, or should I just enter the full-time work force doing whatever "they" tell me to do? The economy dictates that you can't be 100% happy in what you're doing anyway since if you have a job you should be happy about it... EDIT: Also thought about career counseling, as sad as that is. I would say to keep your mind a bit more open. There are a lot of things you think may suck that are actually pretty interesting when you have your own stake in the claim. You probably will find the stuff you think is interesting kind of sucks. 2 years later I wouldn't have imagined how interested i'd be in internet start-ups and planning on going back for an MBA.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) I never said I knew more than anyone about her. Maybe you should stop implying all kind of things from 5 sentences I've written in this thread. It's more a general statement about how mercilessly political and other commentators, including those on message boards, attack people they know nothing personal about while said person is alive, then the complete opposite when said person passes away. Nevermind, you keep feigning sadness like she was your aunt or something and I'll stay out of the thread. I don't recall people mercilessly talking s*** about elizabeth edwards while she was alive.
  6. Mizzou vs. vandy...me and my gf have bets on this as it's our respective schools. I hope mizzou's strength (causing TOs) can dominate Vandy's weakness (TO's)
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) lol. You know I like you. But you're pretty naive. I ain't sacrificing no coin for nobody. I can't expect anybody else to. pretty much.
  8. "Not to speak ill of the dead, but she has come off as having quite a few issues of her own from what I have read. Not necessarily just the victim most people think. " "Read game change" I find it incredibly shallow to bring your opinion based off one mark halperin book to act like you know more about her than the rest of us who are sad she passed. We all read the book.
  9. If you are using Game Change to paint your whole view of this person I find that kind of sad. They gave inside stories on really tense moments specifically on the campaign. I guess that drowns out all the personal work she did for so much good. Because she swore at people who weren't doing a good job on the campaign.
  10. QUOTE (Soxy @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) And now, for the most disturbing "trend" I've heard about in, oh, a million years: stay at home daughters. Man, I wish someone could just take these women into a different environment and show them just how strong and amazing they can be for a week, and see if they go back.
  11. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:42 AM) A lot more satisfying if he can also get START and or DADT. I really hope that people weren't holding back a yes vote for repealing DADT to get tax cuts. "Gays in the military will be the end of our dominance as we know it, everyone will be distracted by everyone being gay all the time, gay gay, oh tax cuts? They're alright."
  12. Why not st. louis or KC?

check out crede's stats last year.
  14. I think it will be a good bowl game v. iowa but god damn there's no way in hell i'm traveling to arizona.
  15. I really don't think that call was questionable. A blow that hard to the head is clearly done to injure someone. The league is trying to have less of that.
  16. I'm so f***ing sick of Mizzou getting passed over in bowl time.
  17. we don't jail cigarette smokers.
  18. whatever, as long as it's not permanent. I'm more concerned with QE2 at the moment.

My fried just moved to Seoul. I'm very worried about this.
  20. I didn't get to read the whole thread, it seems to have taken a different turn. But did anyone hear the election week this american life where they examined a tea party group in Michigan. It was very interesting. I'll try to look for it.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 06:20 AM) NIU is my second favorite college team (going to Mizzou next year, so it takes top spot, but both parents went to NIU and it was my fall back school). I was at the NIU - U of I game and NIU almost won that game, so I think they could beat U of I in a bowl game. If only they had a bigger stadium, the Big 12 might ask for them to join. no we wouldn't.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) I'm like 2K5, I'm not into reading politicians' memoirs, even the ones I like. However there's a couple of exceptions - Al Franken's books (Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them and The Truth With Jokes) because he's hilarious and he wrote those before he became a senator, and Robert Wexler's Fire Breathing Liberal because it's actually pretty educational, and it's more "what it's like being a Democratic Congressman" than it is a polemic. You should read Grant's memoir.
  23. why does the right talk about Obama so much? They are playing right into his hands
  24. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 03:22 AM) privatizing social security would be nice but figuring out a successful way to do it w/out screwing over the people who have put into it all these years and are collecting it now would be the issue i would have with it oneway would be to move over their money to more secure bonds the closer they get to retirement age so they are less averse to risk.
