For Anyone Who Says a College Education isn't Important
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/sep/20/fiction read this. College teaches you how to think really intensively. You'd be amazed how big of an asset that is. It's not that people without a degree can't do these exercises as well, but it's really really important to have some time to think critically and through your ideas.

Frankly...if you remove forte we have chester taylor. We had cutler out for a concussion as well. Our #2 WR out wouldn't kill us, b/c they all suck. Our OLB has been out as well. Jennings out wouldn't kill us either.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) I admit it, I should be mature enough not to care. And I did eventually do that with Palin, because she got SO much attention, I stopped talking about her. But I also admit that some part of me enjoys the schadenfreude of watching someone who was so clearly, so obviously unfit for office, and who has said she'd probably run again, get her ass handed to her. This will be beneficial in the long run, hopefully keeping her out of office. I don't think we should ignore a scandal just because we think the person is not important. The idea of someone suddenly burst onto the spotlight with a ton of attention and money thrown at them to run for office, and then to find out that the funding was just used to line the coffers, is a pretty big deal. Especially considering a lot of unknowns could be coming to the forefront since being so unwashington you have no experience in anything is such a pro these days.

On the other hand the different types of bars derail was awesome.

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) There's ALL KINDS of bars like that and there's nothing wrong with the way it's done (which is similar to the way that gay bars cater to gays). I myself am planning on opening a restaurant one day and black people are going to be its target demographic. Being a black guy, when I was single I was a pretty prolific club-hopper and about 95% of the time I went out it was to a "black club" or "black bar." The 5% of the times were when I would go out with white or Hispanic friends and we'd go to those kinds of places, respectively. I mean, of course it's not called that, or recognized that way, but blacks, whites, and Hispanics all listen to different types of music so it isn't hard to tell. If a white person wants to go to a black bar and vice versa there's nothing preventing them from doing so. There's nothing nefarious about it. Beside that, many also have dress codes that are somewhat, disgustingly obvious.

Official 2010-2011 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 04:22 AM) Unfortunately I can make "attempt on the ball" mean anything or mean nothing. You have to use discretion when enforcing a rule. With less than a minute left, a close game, where a guy doesnt even try and hurt him, but merely fouls him (how many "intentional fouls" can be called in the last minute when teams are actually trying to foul to put the other team on the line), you have to use discretion and give the guy an and 1. It was bad judgment, I dont think you can look at the circumstances objectively and come to any other result. Even if my team won that way, I would still in my heart feel that it was cheap. You dont kill a team unless the guy really went out of his way to hurt him. Funny I don't feel cheap at all. Reading these comments was great entertainment.

Net Neutrality
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Call me crazy, but I dont care if mobile is "neutral" yet. I'm more worried about wired, where MOST Americans get the internet. And the new FCC reules do, in many ways, create net neutrality for wired networks. but what about those in rural areas?

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) I doubt the music is any worse than the country bars here in Ames. Truth. Or country bars in chicago (houndstooth...ughghghghg)
-
Don't Ask Don't Tell.
I've had gay friends go to my bars...and i've gone into gay bars. The music is obnoxious but beside that it's not that different.

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) I already said that, and still find the existence of gay specific bars to be exclusionary, which goes against wanting to fit in. This is just my opinion on the matter. you realize you can go into gay bars, right?
-
Don't Ask Don't Tell.
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) The reason you don't see a listing for hetero bars next to gay bars is because "hetero bars" would be all other bars. disagree...uber hetero bars are found in lincoln park see: duffys. there are then bars for regular folks.

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) Well, I didn't mean they can't file a lawsuit...but they can't just "sue and win", which is what you're making it sound like. They lose these cases more than often than they win them. if the company actually takes the case to court, it means they probably have a good chance of winning it. They'll probably settle far before then.

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) So long as they never say why, no they cannot be. It would be impossible to prove that's the reason, since the at-will law protects them in simply saying, "we were cutting back", or "we felt like it", without citing the actual illegal reason, even if it was the true reason. That's not true. Civil courts have ruled against businesses who claimed it was different reasons.

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
but they can also be sued for that.

Don't Ask Don't Tell.
I may or may not be able to come to that depending on whether i can shirk some responsibilities.
