  1. BBC has reports that Qaddafi has ordered the police to burn the dead bodies so they cannot be identified. We, of course, should support this however, because as Kap brings up, this might be lead to something worse. Than that. Like Iran having ships go through.

  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) There are actually 3 significant drop-offs, with Kansas City to Chicago being by far the smallest. The drop-off from Texas to New York is 59 points, the aforementioned "small" 27 point drop-off from KC to Chicago, and then a monstrosity of an 81 point drop-off from LAA to Seattle. I don't think these drop-offs are exactly coincidental in nature either. In the case of the first 4 teams, they all had mostly full-time DHs - Ortiz, Scott, Thome, and Guerrero. The next set - New York, Cleveland, and Kansas City - each had better players DHing, but lost some time for whatever reason, and also used it to give other players games off. The next 6 teams shuffled the DH position to give players days off and try to work matchups, and it would appear as though that concept simply does not work. And then the final group in Seattle just shows total offensive ineptitude. In summation, I think the Sox are very, very smart in going with a full-time DH. It will add to the overall effectiveness of the lineup and gives them an advantage over quite a few teams (and hopefully the Twins too...Thome has to fall off at some point, doesn't he?) Great post wite

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Not a single mention of Arcade Fire winning the Album of the Year Grammy? I didn't watch but looked ahead (on the west coast) and saw they won. SHOCKING choice... And the masses were NOT happy haha http://whoisarcadefire.tumblr.com/ whocaresaboutthegrammys.tumblr.com

  15. I think it's a risk you take for AOL's vision. I think it's funny that one of the reasons people pointed to for the collapse of the news business was massive consolidation of ownership to a few huge companies, and before the online news business is even really getting going the same thing is happening.
  16. clearly huffpo, for all it's SEO garbage, is the best revenue model as of yet. And it is the heart of AOLs new strategy
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Visits per day mean nothing. Their dwindling profits and money losing ventures are why they're done. Moviephone? Seriously, they were big in 1997, they're nothing now. Do they even make money with this? Mapquest? Nobody uses mapquest. Again, wheres the money from these millions of hits per day? Huffington Post is good, but they paid hundreds of millions of dollars for something that cost 1 million to start...again, they overpaid...I haven't looked at Huffposts books, so I don't know how profitable this company is, and I don't know if they're growing in profits, etc... Profits mean everything. Site visits, which you quote, mean s***. AOL's current earnings per share for end 2010: NEGATIVE $7.43. Yea, your right, they're not done...they're doing swimmingly well! you're right, you aren't privy to their books.
  18. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) I don't understand why people run for office even when they know they are going to lose big. set up a run for a later time.

  20. This suez canal argument is silly, that's a major trade route and the loss of it would have implications that the already delicate world economy would struggle through.

  22. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2321959:date=Feb 3, 2011 -> 11:32 AM:name=Rex Kicka**)-->QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) <!--quotec-->The ACORN Pimp/Ho road show is back, and the new target is Planned Parenthood. Turns out "Live Action" went to 13 different Planned Parenthood centers across the Northeast with cameras posing as a pimp trafficking underage prostitutes and wanted information on abortion. They released a video where the counselor made some improper and unethical counsel to these people. The Planned Parenthood employee? Fired upon discovery of the remarks. The FBI, by the way, was also notified of these unusual visits, because Planned Parenthood generally errs on the side of caution when it comes to human trafficking. I think we can all agree, that no medical professional should act illegally when counselling patients about reproductive health, or any personal health issues for that matter. But because of this "sting" operation, designed to get an organization in trouble unnecessarily, the FBI is now spending extra resources investigating a potential child trafficking organization that doesn't really exist and that's kind of horrifying. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110202/us_nm/us_abortion_video For the record, fully two thirds of Planned Parenthood services entail STD Screening and STD/Pregnancy Prevention and Education. Another 17% of it is cancer screening. Abortion related services entail just 3% of what this organization does. Here's the video. Weird it wasn't in the article somewhere. They probably didn't put it in the video because chances are this was heavily edited.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) I agree. It's one of the main roads for people leaving the loop and going north/south. The entire city left work early and tried to get home, closing the road early would have caused trouble elsewhere. They warned people all f***ing day and planned on closing it after rush hour. It was just bad luck that there were 3 bad accidents close together in a half hour span, including a stalled CTA bus that blocked all the lanes. If it wasnt for that bus, I don't think its anywhere near as bad. And they had to keep the bus running to get people home from work. I believe that bus completely blocked the belmont exit which makes a HUGE distance where there is NOWHERE to go. http://instagr.am/p/BWvvP/ LOGAN SQUARE BETCHES.
