I wouldn't either if his written opinions were worth a damn.

I think it's a risk you take for AOL's vision. I think it's funny that one of the reasons people pointed to for the collapse of the news business was massive consolidation of ownership to a few huge companies, and before the online news business is even really getting going the same thing is happening.

clearly huffpo, for all it's SEO garbage, is the best revenue model as of yet. And it is the heart of AOLs new strategy

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Visits per day mean nothing. Their dwindling profits and money losing ventures are why they're done. Moviephone? Seriously, they were big in 1997, they're nothing now. Do they even make money with this? Mapquest? Nobody uses mapquest. Again, wheres the money from these millions of hits per day? Huffington Post is good, but they paid hundreds of millions of dollars for something that cost 1 million to start...again, they overpaid...I haven't looked at Huffposts books, so I don't know how profitable this company is, and I don't know if they're growing in profits, etc... Profits mean everything. Site visits, which you quote, mean s***. AOL's current earnings per share for end 2010: NEGATIVE $7.43. Yea, your right, they're not done...they're doing swimmingly well! you're right, you aren't privy to their books.

QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) I don't understand why people run for office even when they know they are going to lose big. set up a run for a later time.

i'm only paying $35 a month, hardly paying out the ass.

This suez canal argument is silly, that's a major trade route and the loss of it would have implications that the already delicate world economy would struggle through.

I really like what SB nation has been building.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2321959:date=Feb 3, 2011 -> 11:32 AM:name=Rex Kicka**)-->QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) <!--quotec-->The ACORN Pimp/Ho road show is back, and the new target is Planned Parenthood. Turns out "Live Action" went to 13 different Planned Parenthood centers across the Northeast with cameras posing as a pimp trafficking underage prostitutes and wanted information on abortion. They released a video where the counselor made some improper and unethical counsel to these people. The Planned Parenthood employee? Fired upon discovery of the remarks. The FBI, by the way, was also notified of these unusual visits, because Planned Parenthood generally errs on the side of caution when it comes to human trafficking. I think we can all agree, that no medical professional should act illegally when counselling patients about reproductive health, or any personal health issues for that matter. But because of this "sting" operation, designed to get an organization in trouble unnecessarily, the FBI is now spending extra resources investigating a potential child trafficking organization that doesn't really exist and that's kind of horrifying. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110202/us_nm/us_abortion_video For the record, fully two thirds of Planned Parenthood services entail STD Screening and STD/Pregnancy Prevention and Education. Another 17% of it is cancer screening. Abortion related services entail just 3% of what this organization does. Here's the video. Weird it wasn't in the article somewhere. They probably didn't put it in the video because chances are this was heavily edited.

Spaulding is plowed! Also props to the milwaukee bus driver for putting up with some frustrated people coming out of the blue line.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) I agree. It's one of the main roads for people leaving the loop and going north/south. The entire city left work early and tried to get home, closing the road early would have caused trouble elsewhere. They warned people all f***ing day and planned on closing it after rush hour. It was just bad luck that there were 3 bad accidents close together in a half hour span, including a stalled CTA bus that blocked all the lanes. If it wasnt for that bus, I don't think its anywhere near as bad. And they had to keep the bus running to get people home from work. I believe that bus completely blocked the belmont exit which makes a HUGE distance where there is NOWHERE to go. http://instagr.am/p/BWvvP/ LOGAN SQUARE BETCHES.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Most Chicagoans that aren't mostly brain dead are aware that LSD is a lot more unstable when it comes to weather than all the other major arteries that we have to drive on. I for one don't even need to be warned that it might be a problem driving on that road even when the weather is half as bad as forecasted yesterday. But we are all capable of brainfarts every now and then. whole-heartedly agree. I had no sympathy for them. You are talking about a road with no way out for mile stretches in the north, and that's a long ways in the city. Add any instability and it's completely screwed. There are so many ways to go NORTH in CHICAGO that I completely disagree with you balta. Those people were stupid.

I just tried to make it to the logan square blue line and couldn't make it. The drifts here are unreal and the streets aren't plowed. I am soaking wet from the waist down. f***ing a. This is the real deal.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Took me an hour and a half byut the hardest snowblow is over. Just have to keep up. Damn drifts were a pain. Had to knock em down with a shovel than use snowblower. Our door is nearly covered, i'm gonna have to go down our scary back stairs.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) walked through the loop at 7:45 am this morning....say what you will about what happend on LSD last night, but every single street was plowed in the loop, and 95% of the sidewalks were cleared, so I have to really commend the city of chicago ....only thing missing were the millions of people to enjoy the cleared streets Good to know. I'm about to put some plastic bags on my shoes and head out. Also props to comed for my power still being on. 60 mph winds are nothing to f*** with, but adding snow...damn. I was happy when it was my plugged in alarm that woke me this morning.

That'll be some good coverage.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) I think in this situation its highly appropriate. I can make the moon=the earth if i just choose to ignore the meaning of words and fundamental aspects of the two systems we're talking about. Considering how this law is going to come down to the mind of 1 justice and nobody knows how he'll decide makes it a lot less cut and dry than you make it out to be. You may really really believe that this is something unconstitutional but i've seen nothing of the sort from you that's convincing. You just don't like the bill. And that's fine. But don't act like you've proven any case here.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) I'm overwhelmed by the staggering profundity of your artfully crafted retort. You're implication that everyone has figured out what balta hasn't is incorrect. This isn't set in stone, so don't speak for everyone.
