I can't think of a reason it would be bad to trust the voters for their elected officials. If they think someone is carpetbagging, they don't have to vote for them.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) I may be, but it's a tough team to watch. They are so fun, but it's almost always going down to the wire. Hard to take that. I feel the system is more dangerous come tourney time anyway. Next year's team should be contending for the final four though. I guess it's just that you've already raised your expectations for the team to a national contender level, but after the b.s. of the mid 00s I'm still just really happy we are a force in NCAAB.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) Can't we just trust the voters to make the correct decision then? If they are really concerned that the candidate cannot truly know their plight, can't they just vote for someone who does? Thank you. And, frankly, to bring up the point of Hillary Clinton, she was very popular in New York.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Before Obama, odds are you never even heard the name Rahm, and suddenly he's the only qualified mayoral candidate in Chicago because you say so? I think not. Y2HH, I know you can't help but be condescending, but everyone in the filibuster beside perhaps yourself, as this was probably just you projecting, had heard of Rahm Emanuel long before Obama. When he was congressman for the 5th he was routinely on meet the press and was a lot like Anthony Weiners position now, in addition to that he chaired the DCCC during the 2006 dem wave in the house. After that he became the 4th ranking Dem in the house. And this is if you hadn't seen him during the time he was an advisor to the clinton white house. He was one of the most visible dem politicians of the last 15 years.

I think people are at the point where nothing will change their minds. I hated cutler yesterday and did think that he quit. But then I got sober. Anyway, I think that jay would've played with that tear two weeks later, or 1 week later, but injuries are a bit more shocking and distracting right when they happen.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) This is Illinois, and a Chicago related political situation. If Emanuel doesn't end up on the ballot, it's because people in certain places don't want him to. This crap is so overblown.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) I'm convinced he is an outstanding football coach, but just a terrible "in-game" coach. He's always made some really terrible head scratchers inside of games, but yet, seems to be able to prepare our team to be in just about any game we play. It's also annoying that he seems to think backup quarterback should be decided based on a paper resume. Jonathan Quinn/Todd Collins, both veterans who'd been in the systems before, but all it takes is a short eyeball test to realize they suck sooo soo soo much. But yeah...i think that was actually a pretty well coached ball game...it was just that end around and todd collins were killer. Absolutely killer.

The delusional projecting of sports fans onto athletes is something that drives me away from a lot of sports conversations. Everyone thinks they'd cut their arm off if it was holding them back, because they bought a jersey and sit on the couch to watch games.

It's so hard to deal with lovie. On one hand, some CRAZY stupid things done yesterday. on the other...he took a team with so many holes almost to the superbowl. And we held the most potent offense in the playoffs to 14 pts. How do you manage the two? He's both a really good coach and a bonehead.

I mean, the thing that I find crazy about this is you guys are acting like rahm is getting in on a technicality but I feel like he is being kept out on a technicality. Regardless of whether i'd vote for him, which I wouldn't, this is a guy who was born and raised in chicago, represented a chicago us house district thru the 2000's and left to go work for the president of the united states. The vast majority of his life he's been in Chicago. Do we really think he doesn't know the issues about this town? You guys are acting like he lived in montana, bought a house here and then decided he should run for mayor.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) I understand what you are saying, but being a mayor is just so highly localized in what it takes to be successful, that I would not want an outsider running. If they are from the area or have lived there for a significant time, maybe. But otherwise, I think that a lack of understanding of the city and circumstances would handcuff any mayoral candidate. But if they aren't knowledgeable about the city it will come out like it's come out in lots of elections where the person just shows up to get elected (e.g. alan keyes), I don't see a reason why they specifically should not even be allowed to run.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) Because this whole controversy allows Bears fans a period of denial whereby they can avoid thinking about losing the game to a better team, especially a better Packers team. We honestly might have been blessed by what happened, because Hanie coming in, whether it was him or some other effect occurring, certainly seemed to give us a better chance to win that game. I'm pretty sure it was hanie knowing his limitations and taking the middle of the field which green bay would obviously give to us in the fourth quarter.

If someone was a really great mayor in somewhere else and then wants to take that management to another city, I don't see a problem with that. If I grew up in illinois and moved to a college for four years and then moved back I certainly never stopped considering myself a chicagoan. Unless they are not going to live there while they are mayor, I see no problem with it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) You're crediting the fact that Hanie came in and had a good attitude for the fact that the Bears could suddenly move the ball, and not the fact that they were actually moving the ball? I'd be moping too if Todd Collins was in at QB. This is such a contradictory statement it's not even worth bothering with.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Does everyone whose accusing Jay of willingly sitting out this game understand the actual implications of what they’re suggesting? Does anyone actually believe that Jay Cutler wanted to lose this game? To be put under scrutiny in like this? To throw a kid like Hanie into the fire on this kind of stage? I refuse to believe that Cutler is the kind of man that would come within a game of the Super Bowl, get a minor injury, and blow it out of proportion. I don’t think any competitor, any NFL Quarterback, would pull the kind of s*** that Cutler is being accused of. I think the entire discussion is disturbing on many levels. I don't think Jay actually just didn't want to play. OTOH, this game made me realize that in football, the s*** arguments i hate about intangibles are probably true. Jay's body language sucks. And his attitude sucks too. I used to think that he caught s*** just because he wasn't the typical media personality, but when he mopes, it seems to spread across the whole offense and even team. I don't think there is any doubt that when hanie came in and was stepping up and delivering throws that the entire team suddenly had some swagger. And maybe it was the sheer improbability of this kid coming in and all the sudden leading us to points, but it made me think twice about all that bulls*** about attitude and leadership. That said, that SI article was pretty heartbreaking. He doesn't deserve the s*** he's getting. But all the arguing i do that most of his ints were johnny knox and martz system will settle in, I'm kind of tired of it. I don't think he can be an elite QB. But then again, i've never seen a bears QB with the kind of time that peyton manning or brady get...so we'll see if we ever get him a true OLine and WRs what happen.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) God sometimes it's really f***ing embarrassing to be a Bears fan. Seriously. I'm mad about Cutler's actual performance in the game. It was complete and utter s***. All these armchair athletes calling Cutler a p**** though from their couch while the dude could barely walk or plant his foot for a throw... ugh. Disgusting. I get that...now, but you can't tell me when fox was saying it was questionable he'd return that you didn't think he took himself out. The bears were stupid for how they handled it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) I figured it was her believing she was actually becoming a swan in her head and imagination, just like all the other wierd stuff that happened. Maybe just me. The mother/daughter thing was creepy but a mom trying to live vicariously through their child is nothing new. We see it in sports all the time. I didn't say it wasn't nothing new, it was the most boring, been-done relationship that added nothing new. And just because she is imagining it doesn't make it less condescending. It was a stupid idea...
