  1. While I'm fine discussing any player on this roster for access to some truly elite talent, what I'd hope does not happen is the sox deciding Vaughn is a trade chip and shop him as a centerpiece until they find the best deal. Though I think there is zero chance Pirates sell on Reynolds, he certainly fits the bill. But the things that may seem like big issues with the Sox (too right handed) can pale in comparison to issues that could arise (can't hit at all) and at this point there is no top 5 pick arriving to replace and no clear alternative in sight unless you are a big Burger believer. I really just don't think "too much" of something is an issue, and when you try to balance the cupboards too cutely, you can end up with not enough of either. Say we end up with this scenario: - Vaughn is crushing the ball but can't find at bats, while Eloy struggles. If we traded vaughn, what we'd have is just a weaker Eloy. - Eloy crushes it but Vaughn still just an avg bat. If we didn't trade vaughn, we may have lost on some added value, but have a great left fielder and we don't care. I'd much rather deal with #2. Let's just make sure the line in the sand we draw for Vaughn is for a type of player that is difficult to acquire, and not just one that will seem helpful to balancing us in 2022.
  2. It’s little images of a heart, I think you all will survive
  3. Ben “Jay” Cherington I assume lol edit sorry I didn’t pick up those were separate thoughts
  4. And I’m optimistic there. I love the As/Reds options
  5. LBJ should have absolutely got a game, but yeah M the pistons player should have gotten more. Im a little understanding in that James knows other people will stand up for him while Jackson(?) knows he just got punched in the face and everyone will just force him to eat shit on it. also, man this is gonna be a tough one. Good luck Coby! If you can turn this schedule loss into a win that would be nice!
  6. I have this nagging feeling we are going to Nomar Mazara this and trade for Santander
  7. I mean, yeah. I for one think we actually have a good pitching coach - and Yeah while getting a guy who has been more wild isn’t great - Katz helped make our other wild pitchers effective. And sinker, change, curve, slider is an interesting pitches I think Katz could work with. With the exception of Scherzer and Stroman, two pitchers I have low confidence we’d land, will be difficult to pay for strong, known productivity. So reasonable upside you can escape from seems like next best play.
  8. It's tough, the spot they are in. But they have fields for 4 more years after this. The idea it will take 4 years makes sense only if Ryan Pace is the GM moving forward.
  9. thank goodness this was thought of.
  10. I don't get this exercise. I'm assuming their comment is to the fact that if a pitcher that has had 2 200+inning years and pitched in the low 3s ERAs is is getting this deal (buy out arb + 2), then you'd hope you get a good deal from Cease/Kopech who both have bigger risk cases. Alcantara is in arb through 2024, so that's 3 seasons. A 5-year extension gets you 2 more. But if a more established, durable pitcher is getting 5 for 55 or arb years +2 , what is non-established Kopech gonna get? Cease? They may go for the pot of gold, they may bite at 5 / 45
  11. I don't know how much the white sox will be a part of it, but my personal expectation is Dec 1 will be a decent deadline and that next Monday/Tues will be a lot of fun news wise
  12. Also was only focused on bulls, didn't realize after a hot start the East records muddled, but it's starting to loook more like what you'd expect sans Bulls (to some) and Wizards. 76ers when they get Embiid, Harris all good to go should make their run, while I'm assuming Bucks will turn it on at some point. Bulls can keep pace this month if they can convert some of these easier wins.
  13. Can't believe they have a back to back after a long west coast trip - Going to be a grind game again. Fun to have that feeling again where every game you think Bulls are going to win. That was exactly what we needed from Coby. I still think he'll be inconsistent this month, but occasional 3 barrage hopefully synced up to when Zach is having a tough night is perfect.
  14. Posters are now able to see who reacted to their posts and with what in notifications. Enjoy.
  15. Fun update: settings have been changed to allow posters to see who reacted to their post and with what. A reminder that all reactions are a positive +1 on the reputation scoreboard. For now, the laugh emoji is still there, but if certain sensitive sammies try to start bar fights over it, it will be removed. Contrary to some notions, this was never enabled except to mods. But we are bringing you knowledge of how fire is made, may you use it for only good.
  16. Hmm, interesting enough I think ZiPs will see any offseason moves as mostly neutral. It clearly likes Kimbrel still, and 2 for Keuchel is pretty good. I think it will be hard to get more than 2.5 projected WAR at 2nd base, which is only a modest improvement. And I'd bet Conforto is projected in the 2.5 range as well. Get a Scherzer and its a big bump but only a bump on 2 WAR not 1.6. And with the likely just net loss of Kimbrel, it may not get much brighter on the ZiPs front.
  17. Moving and shaking Pedro Severino to Brew Crew
  18. He was 23 when he came over and his birthday is in July, so it was at least 2 years. What other leagues are like “one of the best players in the world wants to come over, let’s throw walls up to keep him out!”
  19. Man I hate this system. Just brutal how it treated Ohtani (felt like owners gleefully screwing him over). Goes to show how important it is to these players to prove they are the best in the world, because I can’t imagine this will be much more lucrative.
  20. Read a Mariners blog pegging him at 3/$21 Hes obviously a high variant outcome but if KW or Paddy were confident on this guy I think it may be the best chance to find some big production without losing future flexibility.
  21. It feels like he’s travolta in pulp fiction. All the sudden it’s like Oh yeah! That guy that helped Toronto be a top seed in the East!
  22. Segura has a team option with just a one mill buyout next year, if his decline becomes steep (and he’s only 32) then you just don’t pick up the option. Hes been a pretty consistent player and OAA loved his second base defense last year. He also makes high contact, though groundball heavy.
