I'm not very surprised. He had a lot of helium last year after the sox instructionals in the fall showed his velo increase, but then he got to pitch with that increase and he was ...fine. If we lose him I'll be bummed, but I don't really want him to pitch in the sox bullpen this year so I guess that answers the question.

The big difference to me between the White Sox and the Braves is the Braves now go into every playoff series knowing they had playoff aces in Morton, Fried and Anderson, where the White Sox had Giolito and he didn't come through. The rest we had no idea, and they were all very mediocre. And of course, their bullpen was nails, and ours was ... the opposite of nails. Against the Brewers, the Braves scored 1, 3, 3 and 5, and they won in 4 games. Against the Dodgers they scored 4, 2, 9, 5, 5, 3. In games the Braves scored 4 runs or less in the playoffs, they were 5-3.

His career splits vs. RHP are still 103 wRC+ however, and his multiple positions allow us to move in Vaughn, Engel more easily (and Semien in theory can actually spell Tim Anderson for once)

Yeah, heart of hearts I think Semien/Conforto would be foolish because it really does create problems beyond this year. Semien is an MVP candidate, so you are adding him because he’s incredible no matter the position, not because he’s the cost of replacing Madrigal. But if we add him I think you really should either trade for RF or be prepared to go year by year

There would be a team putting him exclusively at short? Maybe I’m crazy but doesn’t feel like that many teams looking for SS.

What I’ll say about Semien and Taylor is despite both being RH they were more productive last year vs RHP than Escobar/Conforto. Semien crushed RHP.
