Roster Crunches: Guys we like unlikely to be protected
man this article is terrible and I would imagine none of these guys are close to being either unprotected or the ones selected in a rule 5, however, still interested in this and the deadline to protect is tomorrow https://www.mlb.com/news/toughest-top-prospect-40-man-roster-rule-5-draft-decisions?_previewId=36caa277-c9bf-4314-aa7b-88f3bb75bf8e new guy I'd be interested in: Calvin Faucher - TB 25 year old right hander who was rated with best curveball in TB system by BA

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
really not related to much but when just looking at fangraphs leaderboards for any interesting trade guys... I have to admit I did not realize that Dylan Cease was our highest pitcher in fWAR lol.

GM Meetings - Front Office Diversity
One thing that has happened in Basketball that hopefully will translate is the move of former players into agents, which has now embraced agents to front office. Which circumvents the "players not wanting to work as 30k/yr analytics roles".

GM Meetings - Front Office Diversity
This article is bizarre because i'm pretty sure it's formatting was lost in some redesign but it's basically a story he's told in many interviews. He got an interview with Jerry through a parents friend, and Jerry told him to get a real job, then sent him a letter saying he wouldn't help ruin his life, but offered that he could volunteer to learn alongside his scouts. In other words, he wasn't paid. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/sox-drawer-why-harvard-didnt-help-hahn Hahn worked hard to get where he is, but how many people can get into Jerry and Kenny's office multiple times?

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
I think this is possible the Sox think this way. More that it feels like they would have that binary kind of mindset of "We don't actually want Rodon at 1 for 18, so you should not offer a contract you don't want" and then also hoping to spin that to Boras as a sign of goodwill. I think the sox are probably painfully transparent in FA negotiations, starting at a high number they know is high bid, refusing to budge unless they know it's not. But no way that Boras actually grants any sort of favor except indicating whether the sox are close to valuing a player at the same number Boras and the player are valuing themselves as.

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
I think going after Bassit or Montas makes a lot of sense, especially since the As tend to value our prospects well. Yeah, heart of hearts I think swinging for Bassitt, Montas, or Luis Castillo make most sense. But I’ll puke for joy if we get Scherzer.

I am with Chili on McHugh, I think he is one of the best signings we can make this offseason. Perfect spot starter backup as well.

Justin Yurchak
What I remember is he was a draft eligible soph who had more BBS than Ks, and destroyed Great Falls when that place was like an Instagram filter you’d put over all of our college prospects and they’d look sexy as hell. After he struggled with us in full season ball and figured he was like the others, but damn he can hit. Hope he keeps raking.

I still think Keuchel for McCann is a very hilarious and strangely plausible resolution.

I don’t really see a guy that trendy, even with gray I don’t really live his stuff. Maybe go back to the kluber, paxton, games well for lightning rebottled

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
Woops guess I was wrong he got 2 for 50 basically. But I was right he’d get more than $20M

Well, I guessed his contract exactly in my roster resource.

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
Thinking anyone is the exception will always bite you. But to me it just feels like there are pitchers on the market, and some are older, like Rich hill where you say well he's past 40. And some are younger. And some have a track record, and some have injury, and some don't. And then there are Justin Verlander and Scherzer. There is only one Verlander and only one Scherzer. And I want a Scherzer. I don't just want an ace to pitch in the playoffs. I want Max fucking Scherzer. And I think a bunch of GMs feel that way too. Nice blokes.

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
I've made a point to try and see any Kershaw starts I can, and I'll speak glowingly of him forever, but I'm really not sure I want an MJ in Wizards moment with him. I don't ever want to count that dude out, but he has not been that kind of pitcher that just seems to piss on old age like a Scherzer/Verlander and their predecessors like clemens, johnson, schilling, etc. Feel like I'm forgetting one.

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
I would be ecstatic if we got Verlander or Scherzer, but Scherzer would truly be an epic moment in my fandom. MIZ

Well, yes, and I am second-guessing that.

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
I think Stroman would be good, but yeah, doubt he ever comes back after last year. Sorta feel like a Toronto reunion is gonna happen. Also his twitter feed is, unfortunately, bad.

What percentage likely do you think it was that Rodon accepts the QO. Cause I'd say 5-10%. No one wants to take a one year deal with a potential work stoppage, least of all a guy that hasn't gotten paid yet.
