Why? To me that indicates they can just suck up a bad deal. Also let’s remember Sox were rumored to like Eovaldi last year. Maybe GM they take on a horrible deal with upside.
Yes, though I will say everytime this board thinks a team will bend over backwards to shed salary it ends up being nothing close to it.
The cozart deal was the best example recently of what we all think will happen and the sox weren't in it.
There was a reddit post which he deleted saying the angels were out on Cole, were trading Cozart to Giants, and then targeting Rendon, then trading for Price and signing Ryu.
So with it seeming to be an actual competition for David Price I would say "do not do this terrible deal" and yes I will be relatively happier with 2 of my choice of remaining FAs.
Just tell them he'll be a DH then, they are totally comfortablt spending tens of millions on old terrible DHs. In their prime good players? Terrifying.
If I'm packaging Vaughn and Madrigal the headline piece is going to be a hell of a lot better than a 34 year old price, Benintendi or Rodriguez. That's just (expensive) depth.
And I'm a big Benintendi backer!
Use that talent for a guy your front office does not allow themselves to sign.
yes, and I would also bet this offer was not discussed at all. And it was more Gammons talking to someone in or near the FO who was identifying prospects.
It seemed like in the last year teams really soured on the rule 5 and were turning against picking a guy unless they felt confident he could contribute, but I don't have a finger on how this would affect things with 26th man. Will teams be more likely to use it? Less?
