  1. it is actually way more true than it would have been in the seventies.
  2. Yes, football is definitely more straightforward and actually seems to wash owners in operating income. The number of family ownerships seems to indicate that. Probably the fewer games and salary cap help a lot there. But also that I'm guessing the forbes valuations of football franchises are magnitudes lower of what would happen if say, the pittsburgh steelers, ny giants, cowboys, or bears would sell at this point of the cycle.
  3. sports franchises aren't businesses, they are hobbies like collecting art. And sure nobody wants to lose money on them.
  4. unfortunately for LA, Fansided articles are a binding contract so the deal needs to be finalized.
  5. That's fair. I do think the difference is Wheeler would have signed an extension with Mets. With Mookie, I get the feeling he wants to get a claim that he's the best paid player in game. Which is why I stand that they should expect to give an offer of $36 million a year (highest paid per year), and a gross amount that pits him above Harper but below Trout.
  6. I think there is a small grain of truth in that, but I don't buy that Cherington is a guy that would be so ridgid about the return he'd take a lesser guy at his preferred position.
  7. And frankly, aren't they even more likely to contend in 2022? And even then, can we even be sure it's not 2023? And if it's 2023, is it really worth all of this when we'd only have another year of Moncada/Gio? I think we should blow it up.
  8. That deep confidence that it's the right thing to do...
  9. Ideally we'd just have had a time machine and made the original trade from the cardinals (and to be fair that was a sentiment at the time here).
  10. The rays are so good at this no matter their competitive cycle it makes me ache. Getting good players you like, trade them for others.
  11. Oh no does a thread title not align with the discussion ?!?!?
  12. That’s awesome. Hope he can make the most of it.
  13. Woof. I mean yeah that dude deserves to not be a baseball player, but the next best thing is Balt or Detroit where nobody will see him.
  14. The long arc of my baseball fandom has somehow arrived at me appreciating the hell out of how Brian Cashman runs one of the most gifted yet difficult franchises in sports. Red Sox have benefitted from being able to pull foot off the gas more and ended up with a greater two decade run, but he has dealt with this about as well as you can.
  15. I will genuinely be happy if they sign Ryu, cross my fingers we finally get lucky, and live to fight another offseason.
  16. Some of us aren’t so emotionally fragile that discussing team building scenarios unlikely to come to fruition harms us ?‍♂️
  17. Yeah, you could tell by how aggressively bad Stones team management opinions are that he he was the perfect mouthpiece for the white Sox at this time.
  18. He's got a great arm and we have a small RF. We'd be adding not just better power, but a guy that walks almost as much as he strikes out. It would essentially finish our offense including future internal additions and allow us to make moves for pitching as they become available.
  19. quite clearly that means he'll be a +1 next year.
  20. This isn't life or death and he won't get fired regardless so I'd gladly be in his shoes. Also I have plenty of answers and would be an excellent GM.
