  1. But the return doesn’t matter, the roster position does. EE exchanged hands twice (three times?) last year, moving players isn’t hard when you don’t need a return to justify the movement.
  2. Regardless it’s moveable. He won’t get a NTC
  3. I was saying you can trade castellanos. Or not, maybe you make it work. But holding spots across seasons is ridiculous to me when we are only taking about b- free agents on 2-3 year deals.
  4. We can always trade away players when one comes knocking on the door.
  5. Especially when a study showed it is quite literally the best investment you can make in player acquisition.
  6. Uh, sure, your post was clearly acting as if it was comparing what EE will make on the market next year to JD and not the contract he already signed. (also you claimed he was 4 years younger and now writing he's 5.5 years younger as if it was obvious the point you were making by listing the current age difference). At the time it seemed EE took a discount to be a contender, but it has shown to be a durable ceiling on no-position sluggers post chris davis. There wasn't a more consistent hitter than EE for years being around 150 wRC+, then suddenly dipping to 135. JD Martinez ballooned last two years and then dips this year to a still nice 140 wRC+. He would not opt out if it wasn't likely to exceed his current 3/62 (hey, that looks familiar?! but he was young and a good hitter?), but it's not certain to what level GMs will be more comfortable with - higher AAV/shorter deal or a lengthier contract.
  7. Do you understand how time works?
  8. is that right? I thought it was 3/63 https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/j.d.-martinez-8690/
  9. The EE contract makes sense but that's essentially his current deal. So, will be interesting to see what he does.
  10. And I also would not be upset if they did not have a top 15 guy (there are only 15 !) as long as they had a large quantity and mix of some more expensive ones. I really liked 2016s pre Robert! I think 2015 was great! 2019 cannot happen again. edit: even though 2015 without tatis did not perform that great, they had a decent sized class with some interesting players that didn't perform. It happens.
  11. Yes, our offense is not good. Take the upgrades and figure it out later (so long as, with the Rockies, you aren’t taking a SS/CF and putting him at 1b)
  12. Seriously. The tigers were more old school under him, but he hired Alex Cora. Does anyone actually believe he’s Anti or just didn’t utilize them until Boston.
  13. Here is my fear: - The reporting of Badler that it has gotten to the point teams are negotiating with 13-14 year olds - Jerry Reinsdorf, already a skeptic of spending money on “crapshoot” 16 year olds refuses to allow Sox to play that field - Jerry ties his own organizations hands in international so he can have bigger bargaining power in next CBA to install a draft. - Meanwhile sox lose out on best pipeline to keep infusing talent while competitive, and lack prospects to trade and hit ceiling of budget too soon. obviously point two is my theory, but Sox have jumped on opportunities to sign older talent in international while always saying what a crapshoot signing 16 year olds is.
  14. I mean what if yanks made Stanton available... He is a lot of the worst tendencies of the Sox, but there are few options and he offers some very high end (and low end) years. would not cost crazy talent
  15. Ben Cherington and Alex Anthropoulos have both taken special asst. jobs while they waited for an opportunity. This team has like 14 special asst to the GM. There is no limit to the amount of special assistants so long as Jerry likes them.
  16. That's a good example of how I have a visceral negative reaction to whenever someone comments like "if we just got average production instead of the negative current production, it's a huge improvement!". It's like the biggest jinx that the player will somehow be an even worse producer.
  17. Why did I think that team was going to be good
  18. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-mlb-international-prospects-preview/ Control+F for white sox: 0 results Control+F for twins: 1 result Control+F for tigers: 1 result
  19. Yeah I agree. He started the year doing what I wanted to see (throwing upwards of 50% sliders), and he both couldn't sustain it healthwise and wasn't that great. Sucks, dude had such an amazing profile and baseball just doesn't make sense sometimes.
  20. There are a lot of interesting teams in the NFL this year but boy is it hard to imagine any of them beating the pats. Though man, I was watching the ravens yesterday and thinking about how much I admire the Ravens org. Truly a group of football guys that are just dedicated to both finding guys that fit their scheme while at the same time being capable of finding schemes to fit their players. Harbaugh had a couple years where he made some poor OC choices and was probably just stuck in flacco-ville. Lamar Jackson seems to have reinvigorated him.
  21. Yeah I mean they aren't so far off. That Cherington bad year was clearly an anomoly and he walked into a sweet situation. Detroit he did more and made some really excellent moves, they were a bit like the nats though in that it was not clear what they were missing in being more successful. It likely was just depth. And I don't think he's the good fit for the sox mainly due to what he'd have for spending - but maybe DD is much better at pulling the purse strings with owners? I think operationally he'd actually get things in much better shape despite not having a rep as progressive. But yeah, this is fantasyland - but I do think there is a reasonable chance he goes to reinsdorf for a job and reinsdorf, a la with dave duncan or doug collins, says sure hey Rick make a new place for Dave here.
  22. I tend to think the Cabrera extension was coming from Illitch. Scherzer going was bad but they tried to extend him and I remember so many on here pointing to scherzer as a major flameout candidate. He should have traded him though. edit: jd martinez?
  23. Just to add to this a bit, I do not think DD would come here and replace Kenny or Hahn. But Im struggling to think of a team ready for him. Maybe Texas would fit if they are tired of Daniels. Like maybe he’d be a splash hire for the royals? So, I do think there is a possibility DD gets added as a special asst to the GM while he waits for his next gig. Put it at like 8%.
  24. These are the problems I can’t wait to have. Instead of the “defers getting good players to sign $40 mill grab bag of vets that provide negative value”. I don’t think DD is the best president you can hire, but he’s certainly better than what we have.
