2019 MiLB catch all thread
In March we heard June 1st but I don't know if that meant resuming baseball activities or full season ball assignment. I hope he's in AZ playing back field games now.

That's good but KW very rarely drafted best player available and was constantly trying to feed mlb depth through the draft so I have to wonder how invested the org is in it.

FS Draft Preview: CJ Abrams
That's fine with me, even with the struggles to refine pitchers in MLB level, there doesn't seem to be a lot of stuff in the system after Cease. I'm hoping they can add some guys. It ain't gonna show up from international that's for sure. That said, there are dudes like Ethan Small from MSU that I really like as a profile but not much of a "stuff" guy.

Merely an exercise in performance tracking. I think people just transpose the numbers of these guys into the big leagues and say 'that would be fine'. But realistically almost every mlb guy killed it in A+ unless they were injured. To do so, Madrigal could do it in a turang like way of getting much more selective than he is now. I loved Milwaukees draft.

2019 MLB draft thread
I am unsure. I don't think people have very good sox sources, and I could see the Abrams stuff (primarily sourced on sox having heavy presence recently) being just around wanting to get as many last looks as possible because it's a big draft pick. I wouldn't be surprised if they go vaughn, and they just had him as the top or second best player on board for a while. And the same applies to if draft goes haywire. and a witt or rutschman are unexpectedly there. They may have just been trying to figure out how close people think Abrams is to their top 3.

It's not the player, it's the rationale described in the BR post and even yours. I don't want them filling positions with the draft, if they think Bleday's power and hitting ability sets him apart from even Vaughn then that's who you take. I can't see their scouting reports, but saying we needed a new LF because Eloy isn't looking good defensively that's poor process* *reads 10 pages of astro ball and is now sam hinkie

FS Draft Preview: CJ Abrams
With the recent uptick in reports that sox saw a lack of up the middle talent and wanted to supplement it in this draft, I think it would be interesting to see a rundown of player profiles that sox should target to fill gaps in their farm. Speed/power arms/ strike throwers/ power bats/etc., it would be interesting to grade against after the draft on how they filled up. but I should have mentioned that before a week before the draft.

(yes I am going through the BA500 and livestreaming my thoughts) There is a dude named Dan Hammer with unrefined great stuff, and a write-up that seems like it came straight out of the movie Summer Catch so get it done.

2019 MLB draft thread
If sox let strong play in a late season tournament sway them then god help us. But I'm sure that's just a young writer trying to keep it interesting. Im going to put a lock on Nick Bennett, LHP, Louisville to the White Sox, let's say round 5.

FS Draft Preview: CJ Abrams
thank you. Much of the "project" with him is on defense, where he needs reps to prove he can be a SS. I think he may have a bit of the tim anderson problem where when you trust your athleticism so much you don't know how to tune it to let technique lead it sometimes. His plate approach just needs refinement in focusing on pitches to drive which needs to come from higher competition, when you have 80 speed and can hit everything its tough to refine it in competition when you want to win. But sox PD staff has done a really bad job of communicating the "just because you can, doesn't mean you should' aspect of hitting to madrigal so who knows. This guy is an incredible package that you don't get many shots at beyond the top ten.

This is about as thorough a collection of reports as you can find.

just going to beat stuff into the ground. Brice Turang, the polished, competitive HS Prep SS that got docked for showing too little power his senior year is slashing .308/.415/.402 in A ball as a 19 year old with 32 BBs and 34 walks. He too, only has 1 homer. But if Nick can double his walk rate and start to be more selective with what he attacks, you can still see this profile working more effectively. But what he's doing right now is not good enough and not worth a promotion.

I don't expect much if any savings from Vaughn. Sox seem to throw money at college draftees with little leverage.

Time for some changes, Rick
Yes, the question with mendick was not Yolmer but Rondon, he has squandered the chance. Should have been platooned more, but oh well. Mendick should be tried out now.

doesn't mean much, but here is BA and Fangraphs #45 prospect: BA: Nasim Nunez (has been mocked in first round at points): Fangraphs: Seth Johnson, Campbell - the converted pitcher from shortstop showing tremendous stuff I'd like either! Though Nunez and Abrams would be a bit overkill, but less annoying overkill than drafting Jake Burger and Gavin Sheets. My 2nd round wish list (which obviously is much harder to narrow down so no idea if any will be available): 1. JJ Goss ($$$) 2. Blake Walston ($$) 2. Gunnar Henderson ($$$) 3. Kendall Williams (and then send for Gio's hs pitching coach) ($$$) 4. Brooks Lee ($$) 5. Jimmy Lewis ($) 6. Sammy Siani ($) 7. Ethan Small (would love to get him in 3rd somehow) ($) 8. Greg Jones (depending on draft) ($) 9. Isaiah Campbell ($) 10. Bryce Osmond ($$?) I doubt the top 4 are available.

With nothing but a hunch, I think they draft Witt.

My top ten, based on no scouting beyond stat sheets and scouting reports for player types I like: 1. Rutschman 2. Witt 3. Abrams 4. Vaughn 5. Greene 6. Bleday 7. Carroll 8. Lodolo 9. Manoah 10. Baty

Reading astroball... Elias being high enough on Vaughn makes me reconsider a bit. The whole RH hitting short 1b does seem like the kind of stuff they tried to avoid being swayed by in discussing drafting bregman/correa. There really isn't a player at 3 I'd be angered by, though I really would not like Bishop, Stott or Lodolo. I really like the prep players.

No. Which is why I wrote my correct statement.

5/27 Games
For context, a very good Madrigal comp is Luis Urias, who is a short, low power 2b (not rod Carew). Urias as a 19 year old hit .330/.397/.440 in A+. Madrigal as a 22 year old is hitting .271/.341/.373. Urias as a 22 year old is now hitting in AAA is hitting .351/.442/.731. It’s disappointing.

He hasn’t been unlucky though. People shouldn’t be comforted by his stats, he was a polished college hitter repeating high A. If he was hitting the ball hard and getting outs it’s one thing, but you could easily point to bad defense as inflating his batting average. He has to tap into more power. That doesn’t mean Luis Robert power but it means more than a sub 100 iso.

Speaking of Illini, woof Spillane is struggling.

That we don’t know the answer is why we don’t promote him yet, but I’d like him at at least a .130 iso before he is promoted

The white Sox should demand that they can get more than that from his offensive profile from their development staff.
