The Rick Hahn Haters thread, sponsored by Balta1701 and Jack Parkman
bmags replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The problem with this is it imagines a baseline of absolute zero...meaning if you expect a GM to fail on every move by contrast Hahn is not so bad. But when you compare him to an average GM it is not impressive, especially given resources. -
Didn’t see an inning, figures. Tilson well on his way to that .280 avg with 40 sbs
-
Comps are never wrong, so we should definitely decide based on them.
-
Not gonna dismiss Kubat, you’ll miss a Javy Guerra when you do.
-
Not the sexiest thing to follow but Forbes with another walk. If he can develop an eye that is discerning enough to walk without power, he will max out whatever he develops (as narvaez has). Really interesting year from him.
-
I think Castillo's contract is up after this year.
-
Appreciate it! But it's more commute/kids
-
Hah, I think many are commuting. I thought I would like this but realistically I will not be able to see any of this game.

His bat is so good that I will definitely still be excited but even as someone who tries not to get too scared by ups and downs of prospects it's more just that I know I would have a sensitive panic button with him But I love offense! Having some just monster bat (especially since so few in system) would be great, but I'd also love a fantastic speedy projectable shortstop. I guess I'd amend what I'd say in that I wouldn't really see the point in drafting Bleday over Vaughn just because of positional value, but I would be okay with abrams over Vaughn.
-
Your hate of Abrams because you want to box him into some KW failed prospect archetype is so lazy. Even your attempts to try and "SEE! Typical KW Pick" by showing his glowing scouting reports and your consistent misunderstanding of his hit tool is beyond misunderstanding so I just have to assume you are trolling at this point.

But a lot of the people followed her not because she could be queen but because she would be a good queen whose people respected and revered her. The dothraki were open to her because they respected her dominance moves in her culture. The unsullied were freed by her. But in the west she hasn't had the same ability. Her advisors have been hurting her chance as queen and likely even have increased murder count, but what they have been fighting back is her desire to be queen at all cost and not necessarily "be a good queen". That it doesn't mean we think of dany as especially evil and sympathize with her is good! She has been often correct in how to gain more power, her being in power has been better than others, etc, and she would have saved more lives had she just sent her dragons to burn the red keep to the ground. But she also being so obssessed with merely getting the throne scares her advisers and that has been set-up for years.

Latest deck shuffling: Jones to 60 day IL; Burr reinstated; Tilson Up
bmags replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder how close Jones is to just retiring. -
Honestly creating anything at this point will be too fantastic. There is so much to do it will seem forced (and theres quite a bit of forcing already happening)

I actually do too. Funny to remember that sox have had so many "epiphonies" on "oh crap we are drafting wrong" but after broadway/mccullough there seemed to be a "okay we have to get some more dynamic talent again.". Poreda was actually the start of that, much more interesting in a lefty that threw high 90s. Then beckham was part of where we were, and mitchell draft, then sale, then that depleted 2011 draft, hawkins, and a pretty good anderson selection.
-
Dodgers taking stewart is interesting to me too. Ah, to have a confident player dev team. If sox took him would I think "oh they can get him back on track!"? no.
-
I think this is it, it's also rookie minicamp so the kickers in shorts is really the only thing going on. I would say between cordarelle patterson, davis, drafting two running backs, etc and Nagy's own words, the team is committed to improving the offense. But I think Nagy is using it as motivation as "unfinished business" and as a fire to burn under them.

This isn't a big slam dunk own or anything, as I still want to see a lot more out of madrigal before promoting him but at least thought its worth mentioning since people crap on him so much that Madrigal is out-OPSing Jonathan India right now and have same # of xbh (though India has 4 HRs admittedly).

Very interesting.

It's hard. For me its 1. Rutschman 2. Witt Jr. Then there's this mix of guys where I'd be "fine" with them. Vaughn, Abrams, Bleday, Bishop - I' be reasonably excited to see any of them but there is also a bit of trust needed in our front office I dont have. But I don't see any as specifically so much better than any other that its an indictment. But, yeah, Vaughn has to rake so much to be valuable. If that dude struggles at all in the minors its going to be a huge *gulp*

I'm not sure I buy Hawkins as the uber athlete in the same mold. Mitchell and Walker (its crazy that a 47th overall pick gets such hate as "a thing) were that similar mold of these guys that could be an incredible center fielders, maybe generate some pop but questionable hit tools that never turned around. Hawkins was just prodigious power in a high schooler and was a late riser. But looking around at that draft is so painful as there were so many big leaguers and difference makers. Reading comments on Hawkins profile pre-draft, it really brings to light though this idea of "is this a scouting issue or a player dev issue?" And then they did get things pretty damn right with Anderson, who would likely be a top 3 pick in a redraft. Man, there are so many reasons sox should have a completley different front office by now it is so insane they have not changed direction in 19 years.

Ha, I know, but just thought of the widespread discussion on tyrion being one of the dragon riders. I'm not sure I could stop laughing if it happened, especially if they play triumphant music as it happens.
-
Ha, I just had this visual of Tyrion riding a dragon down on them and it reminded me of independence day of randy quaid screaming into the blue void. People would love it.

Not that I think it would resurrect Carson Fulmers career or anything but in the offseason we heard a few things about Fulmer. One, he went to driveline, where he said he ditched his cutter because it was making his four seamer less controllable and curve worse. Basically all of his pitches were becoming his cutter. But, I don't know. He started throwing his cutter more often this year, a welcome development, but they just started to hit that more than last year. I don't know that there is anything left with fulmer to try, but he didn't really try his changes from driveline. He just can't locate. His changeup is pretty good, but he doesn't have a fastball that he can throw for strikes, and even the ones he does throw for strikes get hammered. Too much side to side not enough up down movement with him. Good luck to him, but I don't know that he'll be able to find control.
