Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins
He's 21, he's in kanny. According to futuresox he's an incredible defensive catcher but can't hit for a lick.

I don't think that's the case anymore since Mets already traded Kelenic.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
To add to that, here is Heyman I think the white sox and phillies like both players, because they are both good. So sometimes it comes out that their focus is on different ones. But highest likelihood is sox are more targeted toward machado and phils toward harper.

Teams would (still) pay more to then end of the deal just to get the peak production that would be available for the age 25, 26 seasons. What sucks is when a pujols is only available starting in the 30s. edit: also, I don't find value per war as anything other than hypothetical. It has not been very predictive in upcoming markets, more descriptive for past ones.

The thing about basketball fans is they just like watching basketball. Where baseball fans don't get it because their enjoyment (necessarily) is tied through the lens of a single team where their winning and losing is the entire game. I get that soxtalk posters think that the NBA structure is the problem, because it couldn't be their personal preference for which sports they like!, but truly, the nba is actually very popular. It's an amazing fact that few inside this forum can believe.

Cool, I hope they are then tired of getting the first 6 years of a players career on cheap, non-guaranteed contracts.

I know others disagree, but this does feel like what collusion would look like. By that I mean owners telegraphing what their high offers will be privately to discourage teams from jumping into mix with bids that will only serve to raise the number the player gets; because that team will know they'll be outbid. But on the other hand I think that it's more likely that while low, teams don't often plan for 200 mill signings, see this as a low number but especially didn't plan for 250 mill signings, and already moved on before it was clear the bidding wouldn't be as high as thought.

I mean sure, but the player has an opinion too. So if the player doesn't care about limiting the phillies long-term risk, then he can ask to remove the stipulations that do that in order to beat the white sox offer. When competing offers truly get on the table the team may have to start compromising with their own interests to get a deal done to the players interests. We also don't know that any of what you are saying is in those team interests is what they are personally vying for with the player, so there's no reason that should be reported. And they report on "beating offers" because its succinct and probably closer to accurate than what you described.

2018-2019 Official NBA thread
Watching how Ujiri has evolved the raptors from their original core, and how the clippers are handling their rebuild is a pretty stark contrast to how the bulls are faring in their evolution from a successful core.

Frank Robinson RIP
I'm a white sox fan because my dad lived in baltimore watching those teams and we went to chicago's AL team to watch games. I really know more (even today) about Baltimores history pre 1990 than the white sox.

Maybe Pads are just making sure white sox don't get manny machado for only 35mill more than they paid for Hosmer.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
In Rosenthals latest, he says pads are being more aggressive (though that’s relative to expectations) but that Sox and Phil’s are both basically waiting to the end expecting to beat any final offers rather than trying to move to their offers now. would prefer to be more aggressive but anyway, same situation as yesterday.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Definitely feels like it would be more likely to happen on an odd day than even (for obvious reasons)

RIP Disabled List
Yeah dodger pitchers are a pain.

Listen, I know before I sign my hundred million dollar free agents I clean out a closet and visualize them there and ask if It sparks joy or does not

Bulls are down to 18 mill in cap space.

well the thread title was truer than we knew.

2018-2019 Official NBA thread
I'm really just gonna assume it's lip service because I cant handle how bad the bulls could be another year with him. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2019/02/06/nba-team-values-2019-knicks-on-top-at-4-billion/#123b8bde6671 I don't know if anyone saw this. But imagine if the Knicks actually pull off their offseason. The bulls will be alone among that top 15 teams for inadequate front office.

2018-2019 Official NBA thread
Was just laughing thinking about if I could go back in time and tell suddenly optimistic me that with all of that cap space I realized bulls had, with a top pick coming and a nice group with Markannen, that it would basically turn into zach lavine and otto porter.

Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins
Yeah my Reds fan friend thought they were getting Realmuto with India and I was pessimistic that the Marlins would trade Realmuto for a player that had only really performed at an elite level for 3 months of his career.
-
Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins
I understand this view but it also predicates itself on valuing the full 6 years of a young pitching prospect. I'd rather get the predictable hitters long term, and use the flexibility in money and additional prospects to get professional pitchers as I need them.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
I find it too believable that a guy can be fixed when he looks for help outside of our organization.
-
Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins
Realmuto was their one big chip though, I'm not using it to acquire a 19 year old pitcher, much as I love him. I would have definitely tried to get more position players.

July 2, 2019 The Thread
Look at the top 5 from 2017: https://www.mlb.com/yankees/news/top-international-prospects-sign-on-july-2/c-239881502 Franco may be top prospect in baseball by July Flores was very highly thought of before tragically dying Marte had vision issues that voided that contract, not even sure if he was considered top 5 after that Pereira is already top 15 in the yankees system Pardinho is ranked 7th in Jays system and had 64ks in 50 IP in Rookie league. All this to say, these kids are still mostly 18 and already important prospects! Not "maybe we'll see them in A ball after 7 years" type prospects, but legit value guys. So, basically, sign the top guys. That's complicated though, because the scouts start these relationships when these guys are 14 and it just happens that the yanks, rays, twins, cubs ( in past) have been better about getting on these guys earlier. Now money isn't everything, and if sox have a list that looks like yankees last year I'll be pretty happy: https://www.mlb.com/news/july-2-international-prospects-signing-tracker/c-283495622
