Just because it's a rebuild doesn't mean you have to wait until a decade later to judge the decisions being made in the present. The sox targeted two very talented, younger than average for free agency player in a favorable environment. If they fail, it's fair to judge them on that. It's also fair to judge them on their weak drafting since the rebuild. It's also fair to judge them on their continued poor results from international free agency. They haven't had a player use the ample playing time to suddenly flourish like other rebuilds, as milwaukee and philly had. Hahn has yet to sign a free agent position player that has performed anywhere near better than expected during his entire tenure. And it all still may succeed. But it doesn't mean every decision has been right along the way.

It puts a lot of pressure for Yoan's bat to become great. If not, long term you have an average bat at third, an average bat at SS and hopefully an above average but low power bat at 2nd. You'd need an OF that generates a lot of power. That ain't Lindor/Ramirez on the left side man.

I don't know what to think with vaughn. It seems like a pretty good heuristic would be to avoid college 1b in the first round but then we have the greatest player in franchise history as a college 1b.

I don't understand why this is a line of thought. Whether or not Machado signs does not mean you need to move your very important part of the rebuild to 3rd and *downgrade* him to accommodate a guy that may *may* be a supersub on a contending team.
