  1. It wouldn’t have been that bad if not for injuries. Chisenhall obviously isn’t great defensively but he’s had good offense last two years just couldn’t stay healthy. Tribe wouldn’t know that going into 2017 when signing EE.
  2. I will say this, this could also just be a perfect storm of it being the holidays and dan Clark not being big enough to respond to. Typically even a lower level guy making a claim like this would cause a huge stir. This has been incredibly muted considering it’s biggest story of offseason. I think holidays and him not being a tier big enough that their audience knows about it plays into it.
  3. Depends on what’s available. I’d rather keep getting .850 ops out of DH than try to improve center field from .700 to .740. Also black hole is pretty strong.
  4. When the Sox are at a 90 win core I am fine with them spending above rate to squeeze additional wins onto the roster.
  5. After 2013 the Sox absolutely said they were rebuilding on the fly and Hahns horrendous acquisitions to jump start it in 2015 after a promising 2014 are absolutely reasons to be very skeptical this group is capable of both stockpiling talent and also turning it into a World Series contender.
  6. Regardless, I’m not talking about encarnacion exclusively. Corey Dickerson, CJ Cron, Jose Martinez, maybe Sox are looking for their Jesus Aguilar but these guys keep getting shedded all over.
  7. What does it say though that the smarter franchises keep ditching players like this and the Sox keep scooping them up.
  8. We take on 20 million for a player who has a number of red flags that he is as good as last year: - Any player the Rays trade off after a plus season, especially to get 1 year of a 2 WAR catcher - His plus season showed off very little power, making me skeptical his OBP will maintain but especially improve. Seems like a big regression candidate. - His defense does not seem to be plus and if it drops off that kills a lot of value Meanwhile Basabe is a top ten prospect that shows he can likely stick at center, has shown good ability to walk and possibility of power. It’s way too much than I’d ever give up for Smith plus 20 mill in cost.
  9. Your last sentence is an assumption the Sox have not earned.
  10. Some here think every leak is strategic. Sometimes people just love knowing something others don’t and are flattered to get the questions and captive audience.
  11. Deals fall apart all the time even in late stages. But these are not the smoke signals you like to see, as DA says. I way way downgrade Sox’s chances after stuff like this starts popping up.

  13. Would harsher luxury tax penalties really have stopped this situation? I’m skeptical.
  14. The scary thing is if we miss on these guys the rebuild truly relies exclusively on white Sox player development to not only max out players for production, but prospects to trade.
  15. I would never do that trade ever.
  16. Well here’s some free advice to Hahn, don’t brag about trying to get top players, brag about getting them.
  17. If we get encarnacion I’d gather he wouldn’t actually play here. Also just going to block out that Dan Clark tweet to enjoy my day.
  18. Machado has joined the elite group of players I follow on Instagram to 2, he joins Luis Robert. Please let IG end up as the clue to him signing with us.
  19. People have screamed that the cubs are over leveraged since 2014 and it hasn’t mattered a smidge. You are lying to yourself if you think the cubs wouldn’t do this deal if they thought it could get them a World Series with this core.
  20. His Instagram story shows Alonso as the family Santa. Santa being a white Sox player is big, maybe even bigger than Alonso.
  21. I don’t really know the answer.
  22. I love chugging egg nog in July
  23. I think what rings true to me at KW is he was able to paper over his deficiencies in overseeing the amateur and international scouting operations with an incredible run of identifying talent that would continue to produce past age 30, and identify undervalued talent blocked in other systems. But when his ability to find major league talent dipped and ability to acquire it was diminished it became a house of cards about to fall. Our core produced for quite a while and he fooled himself into thinking his strategy of investing everything into the pro level could be sustainable. That said, he would have greatly benefitted from the updated draft and intl free agent pools. Jerry’s heterodoxy I’m sticking to draft slots before there was a cap was a major factor in KWs strategy.
  24. The reds absolutely believe they are competing next year and think reenforcements from their farm are still on the way. Sounds familiar.
  25. Man that was some game from Javon Pickett. Xavier Pinson will be fun too if he develops on defense and limits his TOs. When Porter went down I just wanted a 500 season and that’s still likely but man what a run the last two games.
