  1. I'd like to have Rios and the Jays obviously need a legit starter for their rotation this year. I'm not sure what other teams would offer but I think the Sox should offer Floyd and Broadway.
  2. I have to give props to Kenny now. I love the 2 moves he made ! 1. We are now set at catcher for a while. We have a good starter, a good backup and a good young 3rd in Charlotte almost ready. That's the way it should be. We've also got the lefty-righty thing and both are solid defensively. 2. Gload for Sisco is a great deal. Gload has upside but let's face it, the Sox couldn't even find time to play him and they get a good looking young pitcher back. It's an awesome move. I still would like to see another experienced reliever added and we need another OFer that can play center but we need a lot less than we did before the weekend. I feel much better about the team now. And, I was beginning to lose sleep at the thought of having Alomar back again. WAY TO GO KENNY !
  3. Yes. I would have to agree with most that I wouldn't make that trade. The only way that I would, would be if we felt confident about re-signing Jones. Buehrle, however, will almost certainly be traded in the next 6 months. Unless, by some unlikely chance, he re-signs. My guess is that the Sox are waiting for him to pitch well in the first half and increase his trade value while giving Haeger, Floyd, Sisco, Broadway and Gio more time to develop. I'm not a huge A. Jones fan but on the other hand, if the Sox don't add a big time OFer soon and Dye leaves after this year, the OF will not be looking good. The Fields, Anderson, Sweeney outfield might be fine in 2009 but we want to win in the next 2 years.
  4. Sox fans, would you be willing to trade Mark Buehrle for Andruw Jones staright up right now. They'll both be free agents at the end of the year and probably neither will be re-signed by either team. The Sox would be short a starting pitcher. They would either have to sign one of the remaining free agents or turn the spot over to Haeger / Floyd / Broadway / Phillips. Jones ofcourse solve the CF problem for this year and allows the Sox to keep Anderson as a 4th Ofer and he can mature and help the team at the same time. Bad idea or great idea ? Would Kenny do it ? Would Atlanta do it ? If you think the Sox should and you want them to fill a spot with a F.A. pitcher, which one would be a good sign ? Sorry, I tried to make it a poll question.
  5. What would they give for Javy ? Apparently, not enough. Or they would have had him. I've heard that the dealbreaker was Pelfrey. They don't want to give him up. The Sox could probably get Heilman and Milledge. But, I don't think the Sox are high on Milledge. Heilman would be useful in the pen but he wants to start and he is probably only a back end starter. If they miss out on Zito, I would expect them to talk again.
  6. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since we know Garland was almost on a plane to Houston and Crede has been shopped and will be until he is signed; coupled with the fact that KW has been rumored to be all over ARod, here is my baseless trade of pure speculation. Garland, Broadway and Crede for Arod, Cabrera and Hughes. Trading Garland effectively dumps $20 mil from last years salary with Freddy being dealt so Arod would cost another 5. Cabrera I thought was impressive as a rookie last season is a switch hitter who could our every day left fielder after coming up as a centerfielder. Hughes would be a prospect that Kenny has said he wants back in any trade of a starter, though he is probably two years away instead of one. I know that opens the fifth starter slot, but I see that as a good thing. It allows our young guys - Haeger, Floyd, Phillips, Gonzalez, Broadway or even Tracey an opportunity to get experience and be ready to move into the rotation in the event of another starter getting injured or leaving via trade or free agency. Could add some of those pieces to the trade to add Humberto Sanchez and use him as the fifth starter. I think the Skanks would probably do it if we took all of Arods contract. Just a thought cause I am bored waiting for something to happen. If you can make this deal happen, I'll buy you season tickets. Hughes is THE # 1 pitching prospect in all of baseball. The Sox might get him alone for Crede and Garland. My guess is to get AROD, Cabrera and Hughes from the Yankees the Sox would have to offer up something like Crede, Garland, Vazquez, Sweeney and Haeger.
  7. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why hasn't there been that much interest in Floyd this offseason? His knees are obviously very problematic, but you'd think some American League team, ala the Mariners who traded for Vidro, would take a flier on him as there designated hitter. I totally agree. If we didn't have Thome, I would love a platoon of Floyd and a righty at DH and he could play an occasional outfield. He's really and AL player but I also haven't seen any confirmation on this rumor yet.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...pearlman/061214 I think this is well written and intriguing.
  9. I hear ya. I couldn't root for him either even though I like him. Why the heck would he not want to play for the Sox if he grew up a Sox fan ? If he was a Sox fan will he now say publicly that he was a fan of both teams ? Someone should know something about this guy from Thornwood.
  10. just curious. Does anyone know if Cliff grew up a Sox fan or a cub fan or both ? It looks like he's going to the cubs. If he does and he grew up a Sox fan, I'm pretty sure that the cubune won't mention that fact.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This all depends on if we can get him to throw more strikes, but if we can (I'll say we will), I see him as a solid 3 starter, and hey, a solid 3 that's a lefty and very young and cheap......I'll take it. I'd take it too. That's about what I am expecting. 2008 he'll probably start in the pen. 2009 in the rotation and become a pretty solid starter, can be counted on for 11-15 wins a season. Hopefully, he stays healthy. Thanks guys.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This proposed trade is hillarious. However, the scary thing is that people are actually saying that KW wouldn't do this. Kendrick and Wood are two of the top 5 hitting prospects in the minors, and Kendrick is ready to compete in the majors right now. There's not a chance in hell the Angels trade either of those guys....but if you were able to get them for the 3 guys mentioned, I'll gladly drive Garland, Iguchi, and Uribe to the airport. There's no way that kenny would do this. This is not the Devil Rays. We are not rebuilding. Kendrick could probably provide equal offense to Iguchi this year but he won't turn the double play as good so that will hurt. And, Wood is probably 2-3 years away from being a quality major league SS. So, for 2007 we would have no shortstop and only 4 starting pitchers. We could compete with KC for the basement in our division.
  13. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think Gio will be in the rotation in 2008 as the lefty that replaces Mark Buehrle. He will go 12 - 7 in his rookie year with a 3.78 ERA but will spend some time on the DL, which will help some other player edge him out in the Rookie of the Year voting. He will win 16 games in 2009 and will win a Cy Young award once in his career (with the 2011 White Sox). He will go on to win 132 games in his career and will be traded to another team before the 2013 season. I like this prediction. I hope you are right about this. It sounds plausible. If he gives the Sox 5 solid seasons then this will be a great deal for the team.
  14. I know that many of you are Gio fans and have followed him closely. I would like to know when he will be in the Sox rotation, when he will win 15 games and how long and successful his career will be. Anybody ?
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Think he'd be willing to go to AA ball? Right now, our rotation at AAA looks like Floyd, Gio, Broadway, Phillips, Tracey, Haeger, with 1 of those probably in the bullpen in the big leagues. That doesn't leave a ton of room to throw in another guy. I wouldn't worry about this situation: Broadway - starts at Charlotte Floyd - probably in Sox bullpen Gio - might start in Birmingham Phillips - probably gets traded Tracey - probably in Charlotte's bullpen Haeger - starts in Charlotte (hopefully)
  16. I'm for it. Yes, I hate Bonds. But, I love winning more. And, I love taking headlines away from the flubs. Bonds wouldn't cost us any players ! If we could sign him cheaply for one year, I could tolerate it. And, let's face it, it would be pretty cool to see the all-time home run record set in a White Sox uniform. Give him $ 10 mil. plus incentives for one year. It would definitely increase our chances of winning no matter what anyone says.
  17. He'll probably start the season in the White Sox bullpen along with Logan, Montero or Tracey.
  18. I say it's Buehrle. The cardinals have not been throwing around much money the last couple of years and they just committed all of that to Carpenter. Plus, if that's what Carpenter gets then they have to gove Mark much less. So, I think Kenny will extend him soon.
  19. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If T ed Lily is turning down 4 year $37 million contract offers it tells me that KW needs to trade 2 starters and max out on the insanity out there. This is a golden situation that doesn't come very often. First trade I'd make is the Garcia/Crede for Figgins and Santana. It leaves the Sox with 6 starters and adds more speed to the line up. Ozzie wanted more speed on this team last season and now he will have it. It also frees up $10 mill to fill other holes like the stealth bullpen the Sox need. The second trade gets a little tricky. It involves one of 2 scenarios. If you believe pitching is the key, then you go with scenario 2. If not, Scenario 1 is the best option: 1. Trade McCarthy (and others) for Carl Crawford. It's exciting to think about a line up where your 9,1, and 2 hitters can steal a combined 150 bases. The offense would have more flexibility then the 2006 offense as speed doesn't slump as much. Crawford would be a great #2 hitter behind Pods/Figgins. Bat the other guy 9th. Move Iguchi down to 6/7 in the order and watch his power numbers increase as he's no longe sacrificing himself as much. 2. Trade Garland (or more ideally Buehrle since he's in the last year of his contract) to the Rangers for the rumored deal of Danks, a second pithcing prospect, and Otuska. Instantly the bullpen is improved with Otsuka. Either Danks or the second pitchig prospect would compete for the 6th spot with Logan. For the record I'd trade Buehrle before Garland but Garland probably has more value since he under contract through 2008. This trade sets the Sox 2007 bullpen and also starts setting the starting rotation for 2008. If these young guys are as good as hyped, then I can see a rotation of Contereras, Vazquez, Santana, McCarthy, and Danks for the '08 season. It's 4 experienced starts plus Danks who supposedly has a high ceiling. But now is the time for KW to make a splash and fade the insane moves of overpaying for mediocre pitchers. In 2008 the price of signing FA pitching is going to remain or increase from these high levels and I would be annoyed to see roughly 10% of the teams payroll tied into a Ted Lily. Now is an opportune time for KW to strike while the iron is hot. Bob I COMPLETELY AGREE THAT KENNY SHOULD TRADE 2 STARTERS. 1. However, I think that it should be Buehrle and Garcia - or , if possible, extend Garcia and trade Vazquez. 2. In both trades we should receive a young starting pitcher that is ready to start now (Santana) or a big time prospect ready in a year or two (Pelfrey, Reyes, Bailey ). 3. If we get 2 young studs that are not ready yet, sign a decent free agent starting pitcher to a short term contract. We could always trade him later. 4. We MUST get pitching back which is why I don't like the Crede and Garcia/Buehrle for AROD deal.
  20. I understand that by demanding a trade in the middle of his contract that he gave up his right to file for free agency until after the 2008 season but....there is no salary agreed upon for the 2008 season that I can see. Does this mean that his salary is determined thru the arbitration process ? Does anyone know this information ?
  21. I like Ryan Freel a lot - as a player. I would like to see us trade one of our starting pitchers to Cincy for Freel and Homer Bailey. Would Cincy do it ?
  22. I would sign Roberts for 3 years / $ 15 MIL. Even if he is a bench player for the second 2 years it would be ok. I don't think that you can get him for that anymore. The other problem is that Kenny waited too long to extend Dye's contract and now he'll cost a fortune.
  23. I'd rather have Crede and Uribe than AROD and Fields. I'd rather trade Freddy for pitching and keep Broadway.
  24. I don't believe that KW and Ozzie would pick up Sheff if he came FREE - no trade and no salary.
  25. Does anyone consider why a team like the Mets that needs an outfielder and has a heralded prospect like Milledge cheap for many years - but for some reason is trying to deal him ? Well, it's because they have soured on him. He is a VERY dumb ballplayer with a bad attitude. Yes, he is still young but that is why he is available and why his value is down. He's probably several years away from being a major contributor from a maturation standpoint. I would rather trade Freddy for a major pitching prospect.
