  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Their past is part of who they are. And where they are going. If you were going to ask me, which pitcher has the most legitimate chance of turning it around and repeating this years performance, I would have to pick the most consistent player, and younger one in Jon. As far as moving forward, I dont know how you cant pick Mark as our best pitcher when he finished this year in the top ten in wins, ERA, WPCT, IP, WHIP, and CG. Mark has been our best pitcher, there is no doubt about that but imo Jose will be our best next season. I believe for the next 2-3 years JC will be one of the top 5 pitchers in this league. Obviously the only thing we can do is wait and see, so I'll just leave it at that.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) You cant put contreras as the best pitcher on the team at this point. He had a great second half, and a good postseason. But He has posted and ERA of over 5 in 2 of his 4 full seasons in the MLB. Jon hasnt posted a single season above 5 when he pitched full time. I thought we were talking about where you would put our starters going into next year? IMO, Jose will be our best starting pitcher, if we were talking about the past then Jon isn't even close to Freddy.
  3. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) you should look into an ozzie package...11 games or whatever. The sooner you get tix, the better. 13 games, hence Ozzie package.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) No way!!!! Garland had the 2nd best second half on the team Contreras is the best pitcher on the team imo, while Mark is 2nd. You can definitely make the argument for Jon over Freddy but Freddy has been a consistant number 2 starter his whole career while Jon has had the one year. I still think Jon is going to be very solid so don't get me wrong but for the next year or two I think Freddy will be the better pitcher.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jon had 18 wins, and pretty much helped carry us the entire first half, and in the playoffs was a dominant force especially in the ALCS. You are on crack my friend if you would take a Rookie over Jon. The count is maybe close. Jon dominated one game in the alcs and had a meh game in the series. I still think of Jon as our 4th starter right now behind Count, Mark, and Freddy but I do agree that you can't put Brandon ahead of him yet though I do think he'll be better then Garland eventually.

    Ornaments

    Just a dumb question for the holidays. What kind of ornaments do you guys have on your tree that you really like? For me, I got 4 Sox ones, 2 bulls, and a Marino ornament, those are my favorites, all sports of course. Any special ones that you guys like putting on the tree?
  7. QUOTE(Konerko4mvp @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) so on January 27th, Will they be any tickets available for that game when the tix go online or will they all be gone by that time? What game? You'll still be able to get tickets for most games most likely but you'll have a hard time getting tickets for opening day, the cubs series(if they even sell them for individuals this year), red sox, yankees, etc. You'll still be fine for most series except the premier ones if I had to guess.
  8. QUOTE(Konerko4mvp @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) i was just wondering if tickets will be available to publick since season ticket holder get their hands on them first......what tix are left for publick on the 27th...will a lot of tickets be gone or what? Yes. A ton of tickets are gone already, the season ticket base has almost doubled from last season.

  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Best five teams in the AL: 1) CHW 2) CLE 3) NYY 4) OAK 5) ANA Notice who is not in there. The Twins will be right up there imo. They scare me more then the Indians.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 06:40 AM) http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sox22.html That part of the article is laughable. Redding had one good season in 2003 with the Astros but has pretty much been horrible his entire career. But I guess he's worth a shot as a long reliever / injury spot starter if he has a good spring training. I remember him getting shellacked with the Yankees last season though. What they mean is he'll get a shot to start the spring training games with those 3 pitching in the wbc. Not a bad move, never hurts to add more depth.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) That violation was saying sportscenter is next on their opening segment. :rolly Could you imagine if Leinart got suspended for the National Championship because of that, my gawd.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 05:12 AM) Even though the players involved had bad seasons, the package for Hudson was about the same as Mulder [a top high level prospect, a MLB ready player, and a top prospect a few yrs away] It's a bit different though. Haren and Meyer were both solid spects but obviously Haren has been much, much better as of right now. Charles Thomas and Daric Barton aren't even close, Barton is a top prospect while Thomas never was. Cruz while having a great arm had one good year under Leo so you always have to take that into account while Calero was a damn good reliever for two years in St. Louis. So I see where your coming from but it was still a bit different right when the deal was made but right now obviously the Mulder trade has turned out much better while the Hudson trade has been horrible for the A's.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) Cos you know those teams like the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and the Florida Marlins in 2003 did a fine job in standing pat in the next season didn't they. And the Yankees have a $200M payroll. Of course they can choose to stand pat. The Red Sox changed a s***load of their team so I don't understand that one. Anyways, I agree with your premise dbaho. The 98 Yankees kind of won 114 games(I believe that was the number) and were just completely dominate. As good as last years team was and they were damn good the offense wasn't as good as it could have been. We've upgraded our lineup a ton imo and we also have a better rotation and at worst a rotation on par with last year with the ability to be better or worse. We've basically lost two non important cogs from the bullpen last year, if anything the only thing this team has lost from last year is a little depth in the bullpen but that can be replaced pretty easily since the pitchers we lost aren't very good(especially Dam). This team right now is much better on paper then they were after game 4 of the world series. EDIT: I should say the Red Sox changed a lot of key cogs more then changing a lot of players in quantity.

  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I like TO on the field, and found his celebrations funny, it's just what he did off the field since the Super Bowl that makes him not charismatic in my book. Agreed here. I actually liked TO until he decided to just be a complete moron and attack Mcnabb.
  19. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Chad Johnson ^^^
  20. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) I was on record saying I was against trading Marte - nothing against Makiowack (butchered spelling, I know), who is a very good player - I just hate giving up a young, hard-throwing lefty just because he had one sub-par year (ok, maybe one and a half). I think we have a good one in Cotts, but I'd feel much better if we had another lefty in there to replace Marte. The pickings are slim in free agency so I'm wondering if we have anyone at AA or AAA who might be a good candidate. I don't follow the minor leagues that closely so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether we have someone already in-house who could potentially fill the role. Damaso will be 31 by the time the season starts, so while he's not old he's certainly not young. He sucked last year, and started to decline in 04, I'm thrilled to have got rid of him. He's a headcase, his mechanics are f***ed, he's giving away his slider and he just can't throw strikes anymore. He's finished imo.
  21. As of right now I definitely don't see the Sawx in the playoffs in 06.
  22. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Maybe it's true what some of the Sox pitchers' said - he's a bad game-caller. I don't know, there has to be a reason that they keep a David Ross over him. The kid's got a cannon for an arm. If he can put everything together, he's going to be a great player. I feel kind of bad for him. I feel real bad for him. I really wanted him to succeed.
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Your deal for Broxton, Jackson and Ebert was about right IMO. It's a damn good deal. Just most people were expecting and talking about a deal like Broxton and Billingsley/ Guzman and others. If the sox want to "strike it rich" they'll have to accept A level prospects, not all guys who can start in AAA or make the sox 25 man roster. Some combination of prospects should be expected OTOH, a lot of people are expecting a Mulder /Hudson deal as well. Those two had more success than Jon had before they were traded. No Hudson deal, that deal was horrendous for the A's. You're thinking of just the Mulder deal.
