Official College Basketball Thread
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) I think the Memphis-UAB matchup will shape up to be an exciting game. I may have to check that one out in person. That game will be fun to watch, no doubt. I love watching UAB play every year.

Fantasy Football
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) I would keep Williams, he has more upside. BTW, do you think you got a good deal out of the "2nd round pick, Jeremy Shockey, and Randy Moss for Antonio Gates" trade? That seems like a lot for Gates, even though he is pretty dominant. Well he upgraded his TE spot, he obviously wanted to keep quan over Moss so it makes sense in a keeper.

Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
QUOTE(S720 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) Folks, I really don't know now. Since Dick Allen mentioned about Garland is supposed to receive $7 or $8 mil in arbitration for next year anyway, this means Garland's 2-year extension worths $11 per year for 2007 and 2008. I personally think that is too much for Garland. Then you haven't followed the pitching market very well the last two offseasons.

Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Is Garland tradeable? I thought teams had to wait a certain period of time before trading a player after signing him or extending him That's only for free agents, since Jon was still under our control trading him would not be a problem.

Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
Well this is good news to wake up to and I got to admit I was completely wrong about Jon, I thought he was gone for sure after this season no matter what. I will say though I still don't want to trade Jose he's just to damn good to trade imo.

Damon signs with the Yankees
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) If Schilling is healthy I like there rotation a lot more. However, I saw nothing out of Curt last year to show me that he was going to magically be better. I saw him planting and from what I've heard he was really having trouble everywhere he went. When your a power pitcher, you can't afford to have a bad ankle. You get a lot of velocity from your leg strength and your ankle is what you use to push off and effectively get that strength from your legs. Curt wasn't able to do that last year and I don't know what would change for him to be able to do it this year. Because of that his velocity was way down and his pitches were hanging up. Curt is done.

How to fix the Bulls?
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Most Bulls fans don't want him, but he is good. He'll lose you more games then he wins you by far. Not only is he the worst defensive player on the team, he has the worst shooting percentage on the team and his shot selection is just horrid. Ben sucks, plain and simple and I hope we can dump his ass somehow.

Kyle Orton Appreciation Thread
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) On Brady, yeah he only threw 3 passes in his 1st "official" season in the NFL, but then of course the year after he was thrown in when Bledsoe got injured and led them to the superbowl. Point taken on Elway etc. but c'mon you have to admit those guys had more way more potential and talent at the time then Kyle Orton. Kind of like Alex Smith really (he hasn't a good year but he hasn't been put into a situation to succeed at all). Orton didn't win those "9" games. The defense and running game of the Bears did. My argument all along was that for the Bears to have a shot at getting thru the NFC and to the Superbowl, they had to make a QB change to Rex. And they did that, and now you can see the results. The defense of the Bears wasn't to their usual level today, but Rex made plays on those deep balls, and you can see how much of a difference it made. We're just not putting Orton up on a pedestal, and saying he's the greatest rookie QB of all time. Right now, if you were asked who the future QB of the Bears was, you'd have to say Rex Grossman, wouldn't you if he could stay injury free? Rex is much more talented that isn't even a question in my mind. My only thing here is how some people are just saying Orton completely sucks, you just can't say that after a qb's rookie year. If people are going to give up on him after one season that just isn't very smart cause Orton could become a solid qb. I'm not arguing Rex vs. Orton, Orton just wasnt as bad as some people make him out to be when you compare him to other rookie qb's.

what sox gear did you get for christmas
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) I got to open my hanukah presents on friday and I'll open my christmas presents this morning though my mom already bought me a split season ticket package for christmas. For hanukah I got 4 sox t's, a sox sweatshirt, the sox pride dvd, a sox wallet, sox monopoly, the world series card set, a sox plaque, and a Jenks jersey. All sox stuff, it was perfect. My dad likes me much more now that I'm at college. So besides this and the split season ticket package my mom got me, she also made me this book with all the newspaper clippings from the playoffs, it's actually very well done, it's very cool.

Kyle Orton Appreciation Thread
Some of you guys act like you've never seen a rookie qb play before. Grossman is much better right now that's not even a question but every single rookie qb struggles with a few exceptions. DBAHO, I'm not sure if all those stats you threw out there are legit because I know Brady didn't play as a rookie(if he did it was a few games). How many rookies started 14 games out of those guys you threw out there? Also, why not throw out some of the qb ratings of the all time greats such as Elway, Montana, Fouts. Outside a few games, Orton didn't turn the ball over and that's what he was asked to do. Obviously the Bears are a much better team with Rex in there now but it's pretty ridiculous for people to say Orton sucks after his rookie campaign where he won 10 games. This is coming from a non-Bears fan, who couldn't care less about either QB.

Diamondbacks looking to trade Troy Glaus
