QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 04:38 AM) Yeah the bulls looked really impressive vs Memphis.... they looked awesome really....I like the starting lineup with Othella in it.... Idonno about Sweetney he looks lost a lot but if we can play Othella at C like we are now and let Chandler slide into PF that might work. Am I the only one who really likes othella? Anyways, hopefully they're starting to get some s*** turned around, I'll be back at the UC on Monday so I expect a good showing against the red hot Raptors(that felt weird to say).

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 03:50 AM) Even though the Broncos will probably go in favorites, I still like the Pats here. Willie Mcguniest was a MONSTER today. If he has another game like that against Jake Plummer, the Broncos are in trouble. Not to mention, the Broncos strength on defense isn't their pass coverage. Should be a great game though if it happens. I think NE might be favored and I don't see Denver standing a shot against the Pats but that's obviously jmo.

Battle of Champions
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) It's unfortunate that some of you seem to be lumping this "simulation" into all the other great work BP does. If you read the tone of the preview article BP wrote for the series, you get the feeling that the series is meant to be a mostly tongue-in-cheeck response to Valentine's crazy blather about how his team is better. Everyone is the sabermetric community admits that is extremely difficult to compare leagues. Nobody over at BP is going, "this is exactly how it would really happen". It's the middle of winter, instead of staring out the window and waiting for spring, they decided to have some fun. Please don't reject Bill James and sabermetrics just because of this. BP doesn't do great work, they do the opposite of that.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) I tend to agree Rowand, in a short series of 5 or 7 games, starting pitching depth past your number 3 starter is pretty much meaningless, meaning that teams that possess three good starters have a big advantage. I have yet to see any stats to back up my intuition though, so I will say "probably" until I do. I think someone over at BP was looking into doing an analysis of "what wins in the postseason" and the big assumption he was going to prove or disprove was the point you and I are making. From the same people who think the Japanese Champ could hang with the Sox. BP has no credibility. None.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) Top front line pitching depth 1-3, such as the the White Sox possess, might be more important than a good offense in the postseason. Not might be, it is. If you don't have good pitching in the playoffs you are not going to win, it doesn't matter how good your offense is.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) Now cmon no way in hell would Duhon start over Francis... im not a huge Francis fan but no way he sits over Duhon. Why not? When comparing the two, I don't think it's even a debate between who's the better pg.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 02:59 AM) because you overate Duhon he prob wouldnt start on almost every other team..... and Gordon has played a lot better as of late passing the ball more on offense, shooting better, and playing better D. That and Skiles is trying basicly anything and everything looking for something that might work. Duhon is a 10/6 guy who plays great d and doesn't turn the ball over, there are plenty of teams he'd start for. Ben sucks and shouldn't even be getting playing time and definitely shouldn't be starting.

I would also like to know why duhon was benched and ben was inserted in the starting lineup? Ben is horrid and Chris has just become such a good player and could be a starting pg for a lot of teams. Not complaining after tonight's win but it just doesnt make sense to me.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) I think you have to include Schuerholz. Bingo. Him and Kenny are 1-2 in my book at this point. I've had this argument with wite before but even though Beane is a good gm you can't rate a guy that high who has never won a postseason series imo.- Is 2006 the year the Sox pass the 100 mark?
QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Well, the team got very lucky last year, and its unlikely that they will be as lucky next year. Lucky because we won close games with a fantastic bullpen?- Official College Football Thread
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) I don't want to clutter up the board, but would it be possible to have a recruiting thread? It could be seperate for b-ball and f-ball, or we could just combine them in one thread. I dunno, it might just be me not wanting to let go of college football yet. I think that's a fantastic idea.- Is 2006 the year the Sox pass the 100 mark?
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) And as Jico implied, ERA isn't that good of measure of a pitcher. Not as bad as RBI for hitters, but still not very accurate. WHIP is better K/BB is good K/9 is good DIPS is great ERA is blah Personally, I think ERA+ is a pretty good measure of pitchers worth. ERA+ is adjusted for park and league averages, which makes season's like Garland's, Garcia's, Count's and Buehrle's seem that much better. The Sox were second in MLB in defensive efficiency though, no doubt that helped all those guys' ERA+'s Those are all secondary stats to era when it comes to looking at a pitchers effectiveness. If you think k/9 is more important then era then..wow.- Is 2006 the year the Sox pass the 100 mark?
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) Over 70% of you guys predicting over 95 wins. Pesonally, I think that is crazy, not that crazy, but still crazy. The pitching staff comes back to earth as does the defense; the offense is slightly better: 93 wins is good enough for a playoff berth and then anything can happen It's crazy to imagine that a team who won 99 games last season and has improved in the offseason will win 95 games next year?? Yup, sounds pretty f***in crazy to me.- Is 2006 the year the Sox pass the 100 mark?
