  1. QUOTE(TheHammer @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Podsednik to me is a solid offensive player who is the posterboy for our turnaround. But when it comes to actual play on the field he is nowhere near being our team MVP, let alone league MVP. Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, Politte, Hermanson, Iguchi, Carl, Konerko, JDye, AJ. These are all guys I would consider better choices for MVP of our team than Podsednik. I am sick of listening to players on this team who come and play hard and have given a lot to this organization get completely bashed and berated every time they make an out. In Konerko's case he gets grief even when he hits a HR sometimes. But Podsednik gets a pass. He is protected, you can't bash Podsednik! He is the goldenboy! He steals bases and Ozzie wanted speed so he must be the savior. No one cares that he has somehow managed to be a defensive downgrade from Carlos Lee because he steals bases. No one cares that he is LAST in the majors among everyday players in extra-base hits because he steals bases. I love having him on the team but I hate listening to people overrate him while bashing our other players who go out and play just as hard and have meant just as much to this teams incredible first half. The amusing thing is the reality with this team is our offense has still be driven by HOMERUNS. Our aggressive and smart play has made the team as a whole good at manufacturing runs, but we simply do not string hits together. The offense is still very weak when we don't hit the ball out of the yard. Konerko deserves some of the grief he's getting. Nobody is saying he doesn't play hard cause he does but he has been absolutely terrible this year. Plus the fact he's batting cleanup and has killed a ton of rallies. As far as scotty it's not just his steals he does so much for this team. He's got a very solid on base percentage and most of all with him he gets in pitchers heads. He gets on base you always get a few balls thrown over to first, then you'll see a slide step or a quick pitch to keep him from going, next thing you know there is a hanging curveball deposited into the left field bleachers.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) That's usually enough, around here, to determine what label is stuck to guy for the next five years. You know. Like T-Ball stand, Judy, etc. Good point.
  3. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) He has had one relief appearance and failed to throw a fastball for consistant strikes. Call me an ass for it being "jitters" but this was the knock against the kid in the minor leagues as well. I don't believe he'll be anything special until he can throw consistant strikes. He's had 2 relief appearances.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) He's like that jerk that used to catch for the Twins. Annoying as hell. What was his name again? AJ something. Anyways, the Cards could be shutdown with good pitching and to be honest they're really good but they're not the team that worries me the most. Morris will wear down and probably find his way back on the dl soon. Carpenter's been awesome but he also has to stay healthy cause he's an injury waiting to happen as well. Mulder just isn't Mark Mulder anymore, our top 3 are much better then there's at this point.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Unless you count calling a game Well that was the knock on him. The guy had and has a ton of potential and that's why that Bradford trade was a steal because he was one of the big reasons we got Freddy.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Adkins for Durham bad? How so? Olivo for Bradford was good in one way, but if you look at player for player, very bad. THe only thing good about Olivo is that he helped us get Freddy. Olivo is not even close to as good as Bradford has been. What do you mean how so?? We could have got more for Durham then just Adkins. As far as Olivo he did help us get Freddy and it's not like Miguel was horrible when he was here.
  7. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) I dont want the white sox to be involved in any deals with Billy Bean. The only good thing that we got was Cotts. I dont want to get another damaged worn out player like Koch. Adkins for Durham was bad. Olivo for Bradford was good. And as much as the Koch trade sucked for 2 years it's definitely worked out this year and in the long term. Cotts so far this year has been much better then Foulke.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) As we have already learned he did it purposely... or so he says. He definitely meant to spell it wrong.
  9. Pujols and Peavy.
  10. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) Who needs Wild kingdom, just come to Soxtalk. Ahh, I'm looking forward to this when I come back, I think it's bedtime for me now though
  11. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) from what I read, Burnett definetly wants to be a free agent next year. He said no matter what he will go in the market. THis is typically not what KW goes after. he likes to get guys with another year, or guys who give him an indication of sign ability. In addition Burnett is very injury prone. Long term contract on that is risky. I don't see it. I think the Whitesox will be mentioned as buyers in every trade rumor. It's not like we haven't rented players before. I personally think you'd see AJ resigned quickly if he came over here, however if Kenny thinks Burnett is the missing piece and knows he can't resign him, he'll still pull the trugger for a shot to win that championship.
  12. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:27 AM) and bacon? And um......ok you win.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) I totally agree with that. The timing is all wrong. The timing sucks. To be honest I'd love to see this done right, I think it'd be a ball to watch.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) http://www.teenhollywood.com/d.asp?r=102274&cat=1055 the pic, not for work, well maybe Boo, you're a tease.
  15. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:16 AM) Babe Ruth But do we have enough hookers?? and beer?
  16. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:15 AM) I remember, want another one...Indians will take three of four and this board will be clamoring for a trade. Hasn't this board been clamoring for a trade since the team lost it's first game of the season??? Seriously though, I think they'll take atleast 3 of 4 but I always think they're going to win so just ignore me.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) YAS.. his head is up his ass because he thinks he's all that! He THINKS he's the best out there.. he THINKS he belongs there.. he THINKS he will not get sent down. He doesn't think about getting sent down... Wille only thinks about Willie. Plain and simple. Is this the best day of your life steff?? No more willie
  18. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) Rowand I actaully was not posting this to you, but to your buddy JimH. Anyway, don't take me so seriously. I still mean what I say, but there is alot of read between the lines in what I post. And I am not done thinking the twins will be there. This will not be a cakewalk. quick, I was just giving you a hard time. Trust me, I've said all year that I'm not counting the Twins out, I think they're a great team and that they'll get into the playoffs one way or another. BUT, you did tell me in early May that the Twins would be in first place within a week, so for that you recieve one of these
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:03 AM) Sox fans should be encouraged about a possible addition(s). There's too much smoke right now to have nothing going on. I don't know when anything is going to happen but I feel pretty confident in saying something will happen.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) Look at who he faced, plus he wasn't pitching on his normal schedule. I'm not worried. As long as his sinker is working, he'll be tough to hit. Plus the fact he came in for relief.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) Well if this is true and there's no reason to believe it isn't true, KW is going into aggresive mode again. It's just a matter of time. Again, Burnett is a guy with a different look ... unlike any of the other 5 currently in the rotation. Burnett is a true power pitcher. KW likes all his pitchers to have different looks, from that perspective it makes sense he's pursuing this guy. I said this about Schimdt, if Kenny really wants Burnett he'll get him but that's jmo.
  22. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:17 AM) If the Marlins were in town looking at sox guys, bullpen is where they need the most help. Guys I could see them interested in would be Cotts, Vizcaino and Jenks. Seeing how they only have one LHP in the pen, cotts would have to look very appealing to them [young, cheap and good]. Cotts stays. If they want viz they can have him. The interesting name you mentioned is Jenks. As much as I love Jenks arm, for a guy like Burnett he'd be expendable. Beck, that really is a great point with Jenks, I could honestly see Bobby being the center piece of a deal for Burnett. Obviously they'd want more then Bobby but that could definitely be a start.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) Well Row, he is nuts like that, what do you expect???? LOL Jim. I just disagree with him on the whole chemistry discussion so I just thought I'd bring that up. I respect his views just completely disagree.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) Alright, I just read through this thread, for the first time. What an awesome thread. Anyways -- I beat solitaire for the first time yesterday. My mom was having surgery at Rush, and my dad, my grandparents and I all basically sat in the 'waiting room' for about five hours. I was so happy when I beat it. And, my mom is doing Ok, she should be home from the hospital on Friday (fingers crossed). My dad and I both were real nervous the whole time, just 'cause he's had some bad experiences there (not saying other people haven't), and I'm overall just a nervous person. So, it was a big weight off our shoulders when we heard the news that the surgery went well. That's good to hear, I hope she has a quick recovery.
  25. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Mark Redman Pirates The Pirates have basically decided they won't be able to afford Redman when he becomes a free agent after this year, so they'll try to move him before July 31. Several teams are looking for pitching help and while Redman may not be their first choice, he might be the best starter of those available. Potential Suitors: Marlins, Braves, Red Sox, Yankees, White Sox No thanks on Redman.
