Is Borchard Finally Ready?
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) He does this every single year. Joe Borchard will never be good, and I don't need a crystal ball to see that. The one thing I will say about Borch is that when I saw him in Spring Training I thought he'd have a good year. His swing is much shorter and compact then it has been in years past. I wouldn't bet on Borch being an effective major leaguer anytime soon but it's still possible in my mind.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) While the Giants won't blow up the roster — they plan to field a contending team in'06 — it's possible they could soon make the decision to move forward to next year. That means, for starters, unburdening themselves of the $7 million player option Durham has for next season. And perhaps cutting ties with longtime franchise stars such as Snow and Kirk Rueter. It also might mean trading Jason Schmidt, though the Giants would require two major leagueready pitchers in return. That means Jon Garland from the White Sox, Erik Bedard from the Orioles or John Patterson from the Nationals — trades that would be counterproductive for contenders looking to bolster their staff. Giants GM Brian Sabean said he continues to be "as active as we could be" about adding a starting pitcher. He continued to assert that he has not discussed any "premium players" on the 25-man roster, and that picking up Schmidt's $10.5 million option remains a strong possibility. If that's what they're asking for then Schimdt is staying in San Fran.

why I will not by tickets this year
QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) Since Reinsdorf and co bought the team the Dodgers, Cardinals, Orioles, Tigers, Royals, Mets, Twins, A's, Reds, Blue Jays, Braves, Yankees, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Angels, and Red Sox have all won at least one World Series. Additionally the Brewers, Phillies, Padres, Giants and Indians have all appeared in at least one World Series. White Sox fans have earned the right to be both cynical and skeptical. The team is doing well because A Ozzie wanted to remake the team and B KW did a hell of a job getting him the players despite the financial constraints he has to work under. Now I will cross my fingers and hold my breath in the second half, hoping this is not just a mirage. Making the playoffs is great, but succeeding in them is like navigating a minefield, and having the best record in the regular season sometimes means diddly squat. This team has the best chance of any White Sox team since 1983 to actually WIN a World Series. I'm having heart palpations just typing this. White Sox fans have been battered and beaten over the years and have stayed loyal without getting all childish and syruppy like fans of that OTHER team on the North Side. Here's hoping for a great second half. 1959 was a long time ago, but it seems like yesterday. 1917 even I don't remember. It's fine to have your doubts whether the sox will do anything in the offseason but what's ridiculous about this thread is that this guy went nuts in freakin November. NOVEMBER. Nobody makes moves in November, plus this guy made himself look and seem like a fair weather fan. As far as JR goes within the next 2 or so years our payroll is probably going to be around 90 mill, so he's putting money into the team, that argument is starting to get worn out.

AL First Half Awards
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) Bulls***. Konerko has not been terrible. He has not lived up to hopes and expectations, but he hasn't been terrible. I don't care how undeserved some may think it is, you do not make the All Star team as the third player from your team without being somewhat deserving. He's been very bad imo. The guy is our cleanup hitter and he's batting under .250. That's not the thing that bothers me the most, the thing that has bothered me with Pauly is the fact he makes big out, he has rarely came through when we have needed him. As far as making the allstar team, as has been said the AL first basemen have been very weak this year, also he got in due to some name recognition.

AL First Half Awards
QUOTE(TheHammer @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Podsednik to me is a solid offensive player who is the posterboy for our turnaround. But when it comes to actual play on the field he is nowhere near being our team MVP, let alone league MVP. Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, Politte, Hermanson, Iguchi, Carl, Konerko, JDye, AJ. These are all guys I would consider better choices for MVP of our team than Podsednik. I am sick of listening to players on this team who come and play hard and have given a lot to this organization get completely bashed and berated every time they make an out. In Konerko's case he gets grief even when he hits a HR sometimes. But Podsednik gets a pass. He is protected, you can't bash Podsednik! He is the goldenboy! He steals bases and Ozzie wanted speed so he must be the savior. No one cares that he has somehow managed to be a defensive downgrade from Carlos Lee because he steals bases. No one cares that he is LAST in the majors among everyday players in extra-base hits because he steals bases. I love having him on the team but I hate listening to people overrate him while bashing our other players who go out and play just as hard and have meant just as much to this teams incredible first half. The amusing thing is the reality with this team is our offense has still be driven by HOMERUNS. Our aggressive and smart play has made the team as a whole good at manufacturing runs, but we simply do not string hits together. The offense is still very weak when we don't hit the ball out of the yard. Konerko deserves some of the grief he's getting. Nobody is saying he doesn't play hard cause he does but he has been absolutely terrible this year. Plus the fact he's batting cleanup and has killed a ton of rallies. As far as scotty it's not just his steals he does so much for this team. He's got a very solid on base percentage and most of all with him he gets in pitchers heads. He gets on base you always get a few balls thrown over to first, then you'll see a slide step or a quick pitch to keep him from going, next thing you know there is a hanging curveball deposited into the left field bleachers.

Bobby Jenks
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) That's usually enough, around here, to determine what label is stuck to guy for the next five years. You know. Like T-Ball stand, Judy, etc. Good point.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) He has had one relief appearance and failed to throw a fastball for consistant strikes. Call me an ass for it being "jitters" but this was the knock against the kid in the minor leagues as well. I don't believe he'll be anything special until he can throw consistant strikes. He's had 2 relief appearances.

White Sox vs. Cardinals
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) He's like that jerk that used to catch for the Twins. Annoying as hell. What was his name again? AJ something. Anyways, the Cards could be shutdown with good pitching and to be honest they're really good but they're not the team that worries me the most. Morris will wear down and probably find his way back on the dl soon. Carpenter's been awesome but he also has to stay healthy cause he's an injury waiting to happen as well. Mulder just isn't Mark Mulder anymore, our top 3 are much better then there's at this point.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Unless you count calling a game Well that was the knock on him. The guy had and has a ton of potential and that's why that Bradford trade was a steal because he was one of the big reasons we got Freddy.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Adkins for Durham bad? How so? Olivo for Bradford was good in one way, but if you look at player for player, very bad. THe only thing good about Olivo is that he helped us get Freddy. Olivo is not even close to as good as Bradford has been. What do you mean how so?? We could have got more for Durham then just Adkins. As far as Olivo he did help us get Freddy and it's not like Miguel was horrible when he was here.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) I dont want the white sox to be involved in any deals with Billy Bean. The only good thing that we got was Cotts. I dont want to get another damaged worn out player like Koch. Adkins for Durham was bad. Olivo for Bradford was good. And as much as the Koch trade sucked for 2 years it's definitely worked out this year and in the long term. Cotts so far this year has been much better then Foulke.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) from what I read, Burnett definetly wants to be a free agent next year. He said no matter what he will go in the market. THis is typically not what KW goes after. he likes to get guys with another year, or guys who give him an indication of sign ability. In addition Burnett is very injury prone. Long term contract on that is risky. I don't see it. I think the Whitesox will be mentioned as buyers in every trade rumor. It's not like we haven't rented players before. I personally think you'd see AJ resigned quickly if he came over here, however if Kenny thinks Burnett is the missing piece and knows he can't resign him, he'll still pull the trugger for a shot to win that championship.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:15 AM) I remember, want another one...Indians will take three of four and this board will be clamoring for a trade. Hasn't this board been clamoring for a trade since the team lost it's first game of the season??? Seriously though, I think they'll take atleast 3 of 4 but I always think they're going to win so just ignore me.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) Rowand I actaully was not posting this to you, but to your buddy JimH. Anyway, don't take me so seriously. I still mean what I say, but there is alot of read between the lines in what I post. And I am not done thinking the twins will be there. This will not be a cakewalk. quick, I was just giving you a hard time. Trust me, I've said all year that I'm not counting the Twins out, I think they're a great team and that they'll get into the playoffs one way or another. BUT, you did tell me in early May that the Twins would be in first place within a week, so for that you recieve one of these
