TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:03 AM) Sox fans should be encouraged about a possible addition(s). There's too much smoke right now to have nothing going on. I don't know when anything is going to happen but I feel pretty confident in saying something will happen.

Garland looked nervous and shaky tonight
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) Look at who he faced, plus he wasn't pitching on his normal schedule. I'm not worried. As long as his sinker is working, he'll be tough to hit. Plus the fact he came in for relief.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) Well if this is true and there's no reason to believe it isn't true, KW is going into aggresive mode again. It's just a matter of time. Again, Burnett is a guy with a different look ... unlike any of the other 5 currently in the rotation. Burnett is a true power pitcher. KW likes all his pitchers to have different looks, from that perspective it makes sense he's pursuing this guy. I said this about Schimdt, if Kenny really wants Burnett he'll get him but that's jmo.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:17 AM) If the Marlins were in town looking at sox guys, bullpen is where they need the most help. Guys I could see them interested in would be Cotts, Vizcaino and Jenks. Seeing how they only have one LHP in the pen, cotts would have to look very appealing to them [young, cheap and good]. Cotts stays. If they want viz they can have him. The interesting name you mentioned is Jenks. As much as I love Jenks arm, for a guy like Burnett he'd be expendable. Beck, that really is a great point with Jenks, I could honestly see Bobby being the center piece of a deal for Burnett. Obviously they'd want more then Bobby but that could definitely be a start.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) Well Row, he is nuts like that, what do you expect???? LOL Jim. I just disagree with him on the whole chemistry discussion so I just thought I'd bring that up. I respect his views just completely disagree.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) Alright, I just read through this thread, for the first time. What an awesome thread. Anyways -- I beat solitaire for the first time yesterday. My mom was having surgery at Rush, and my dad, my grandparents and I all basically sat in the 'waiting room' for about five hours. I was so happy when I beat it. And, my mom is doing Ok, she should be home from the hospital on Friday (fingers crossed). My dad and I both were real nervous the whole time, just 'cause he's had some bad experiences there (not saying other people haven't), and I'm overall just a nervous person. So, it was a big weight off our shoulders when we heard the news that the surgery went well. That's good to hear, I hope she has a quick recovery.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Mark Redman Pirates The Pirates have basically decided they won't be able to afford Redman when he becomes a free agent after this year, so they'll try to move him before July 31. Several teams are looking for pitching help and while Redman may not be their first choice, he might be the best starter of those available. Potential Suitors: Marlins, Braves, Red Sox, Yankees, White Sox No thanks on Redman.

And thats an AL winner!!
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) How the hell does Smoltz get tagged with the loss? he only gave up one run? If anything, Oswalt should be given the loss... someone please explain. If it's a real game he gets the loss as well. He was the losing pitcher not Oswalt.

AJ as clubhouse cancer?
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) That surprises me. You'd keep AJ over Buehrle, Hermanson, Thomas, Garland, etc.? That would have to be the case if he is your 'most valuable' player. Widger has an idential OPS to AJ with our staff having a lower ERA with Widge behind the plate and that dude was playing softball last year. I'm not saying Widge is better but come on. Pitchers aren't mvp's in my mind so I wasn't counting them. IMO AJ and Scotty have been our two most valuable position players and AJ has been this team's mvp but like I said you can make a case for a lot of these guys.

AJ as clubhouse cancer?
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) MVP?! Let's not go overboard. Not the league's mvp but he's been our's imo as well. You can make a case for several guys and that's one reason we are where we are but AJ's my pick at this point.

Guys, I would have loved to see Scotty hit as much as anyone but don't jump down Francona's throat for it, it's not the easiest thing in the world to get everyone in one of these games. Scotty got to go and just be there which is pretty damn cool, I think he'll live. EDIT: Also, Francona was probably saving Scotty for the situation we all thought he'd be in, used as a pinch runner in a tight game so he held out on bringing him in before anyone else.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) to reiterate, chemistry is bulls*** and is the job of the manager and leaders of the team, the sox should do everything to make this team better including trading away any of there prospects for the right deal. Win now not later. Am I repeditive enough for you? Get omar visquel, Schmidt and whatever else you need. This team today is not good enough. And yes your views on Italian Beef are a bit over rated lately. Just because I disagree with you, remember after the first dray series how you told me the Twins would be in first place within a week???? You were wrong

Carlos opened his stance. He's probably trying to pull everything out of the yard with the opened stance, makes a lot of sense why his power numbers are up and his ba and obp are down.
