Thomas wouldn't mind ending career with Sox
Rowand44 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) I love Kenny Williams but if he cannot find a way to make Thomas stay here for life, especially with the increased attendance and a possible deep playoff run here, I will be one pissed mo'focker.....under no circumstances should Thomas be allowed to walk from the Sox. Do whatever it takes. Period. I'll say this again, I love Frank as much as anyone here. I'd be extremely sad if he didn't finish his career here, however you don't jeopardize your team financially just because he's Frank Thomas. The White Sox>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> an infinite amount of those more important then Frank. That being said hopefully Frank and Kenny can come to a fair agreement. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) OK, he's faced 4 batters. Take it easy. People aren't excited about him because he had 1 nice inning, it's the fact he has a tremendous arm, one of the best you'll find in all of baseball.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Anyone else see this as an audition for a trade? Just a thought. It could be but it's just so hard to give up an arm like that. We'll see, you could be right but I'd venture to guess that he'll be in the White Sox organization for a while.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) I read somewhere today that Boston might make a push for Everyday Eddie...and that's a move that makes as much sense for that team as anything else in the big leagues. They need a reliever much, much more then we do.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) I just can't imagine Frank gone, especailly if the team goes its seperate ways with Paul and Carl, which in my mind I think they will. Paul seems to be turning into a one trick pony. This is what I think will happen. Pauly and Carl go and the sox renegotiate with Frank and get him a new contract. I want him to finish his career here but we can't just give him anything he wants. I love Frank but no player is above the team so hopefully this gets done but at the right price. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) So you wouldn't mind if his option was picked up? You should pay his option -
He's perfectly fine as a 4th starter.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) He broke the Carl Everett trade to the Sox the first time around. He also broke the Russ Ortiz to the Sox deal, er...wait a sec. I'm sure Kenny is going after him, he wants to make an impact move if he makes a move at all. We'll see what happens though.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Paul Konerko will re-sign as the Sox 1Bman. Frank Thomas will be back as the DH and Dye will play RF. Carl Everett may be gone, but then again maybe not. Rumor is that he might be on the trading block. Brian Anderson and/or Joe Borchard will be the 4th and/or 5th OF'er. Timo will be gone also so the question will be do we sign a reserve IF'er or have the 5th OF'er? Dye will not be playing at IB. I love Frank Thomas, but to say PK will not be there simply because Thomas hit the homer last night only goes to show that old saying, "what have you done for me lately." Lately in this case meaning last night. We shouldn't think so negatively or be so near sighted. Wanting PK to move on has nothing to do with tonight. He's going to make a ton of money this offseason and he just isn't worth it. Personally I don't think he's worth very much at all.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) He has great gap power though. He really does, I love Ross as a hitter, drives the ball to all fields, very solid clutch hitter, he can definitely run for a 1 bagger. I'm a big Ross Gload fan.
-
QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) he hasnt played a full season so how can you judge it Look at his minor league numbers, he's not a power hitter, he's a very solid hitter but he's not known for driving the ball out of the park.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) It would be a very, very risky move. The move would of course open a spot for Anderson, but I don't like the idea. Cerb, if Dye can prove that he's capable of playing first is it really that risky?? I mean you'd have Dye and Ross who have already proven that they're very good hitters at the major league level, then you have Anderson and Rogo who can possibly be ready to play next year. Maybe Anderson starts the year as the everday rf'er and if he struggles then Jermaine moves back there and Ross can play 1st. There's a ton of options for this spot, personally I want to see it come in house and save the money and improve in other areas.

QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) From southsidesox.com: "...This is a move that I've quietly asked for. That's not to say that I want Dye out there right now, but I brought it up in another forum that I would send Jermaine to play winter ball somewhere, playing exclusively first base. One of Paul Konerko and Frank Thomas is probably going to be gone next season, and after last night's heroics who can argue to keep Pauly over Frank? At first base next year the options are Konerko, Gload, and Casey Rogowski. We know what Gload can do, but that he's still in Charlotte, and Dye is getting the start at 1B tells me a lot. Rogowski is a nice prospect, but I don't think he's ever going to be an offensive powerhouse you'd like to have at 1B. Plus, I thik he's more than a year off. I also think Anderson will struggle in the first half next season. So... A platoon of Dye-Gload-Anderson in 1B/RF would be a decent option. All of this assumes Jermaine can be an adequate defensive 1B. The last time he played 1B was 1998 in AAA. Let's hope he at least has a first basemen's mitt." Interesting thought. A lot of us around here have thought about this. Jermaine sure did look pretty darn good at first tonight. If he can hold it down I'd love it, Anderson in right, Jermaine at first, Frank still here, Ross and Rogo could also get some time at first. Then you just got Pauly and his money off the books to maybe go after another starting pitcher, don't think there is going to be much to improve in the pen. Got Hermy, Cliff(option), Neal, Damaso, Jenks and Viz(we'll see what happens with him) all locked up for next year.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) Hey I totally agree with you. Was just speaking in response to what the other poster was saying in regards to some potential strategy in the callup. I think Jenks has the ability to be one of the 3 best relievers in all of baseball, if not the very best. Of course potential doesn't mean sure thing. Still the Sox haven't had a kid with this type of stuff in forever. This could really turn out to be Kenny Williams best move he's ever made and as we've know he's made some damn good ones. You just don't pick up a guy with this kind of stuff for nothing. Unreal. -
We did play the drays nuke not the Marlins Wow, great f'n day.

Congrats Bobby. Obviously a little wound up and nervous to start overthrowing his fastball a little bit. Settles down and looks awesome. Think that guy has an impressive arm?? Wow.
