  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) I tend to think the Sox are in a holding pattern with the Giants and I also think there is at least some smoke to the whole Vizquel/Schmidt possibilities. Both would be very nice addition to this club, but the question for Schmidt is the cost. I still think Schmidt has a lot left in him and this is his first season of not being an ace in the past couple. As long as he has a clean bill of health, I'd pick him up. However, I'd make damn sure if I gave up Bmac/Anderson and one other prospect that I'd be getting Omar as well. Have you seen him pitch recently?? If so what did you think of his stuff? I saw his last start where he got bombed but I was impressed with his stuff, imo you'll see him really start to improve here in the next few weeks.
  2. My insider account is all fudged up right now because of friends using it as well as me but the rumor is from the southtown so I'm sure someone here could find the article.

    QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Ouch, that's rough. If you watched the show, you'd like her...its impossible not to. Bingo. I didn't think much of her until I turned on smallville once, she's beautiful.
  4. Welcome aboard but I don't think your name is going to go over well here
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Yacker I'm so happy you used the word yacker
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Jenks has a change or at least he did back in the Angel organization. He also used to dab with a slider. The funny thing about Jenks was he almost had what you'd call 4 plus pitches as a starter and thats why so many guys really liked him. IIRC the Angels organization wanted him to take some pressure of his arm and he kind of stopped using the slider. I'm not sure if he throws it much at all anymore. As far as the change goes, its still an inconsistent pitch but I know it was something he worked on a lot in the Angels system. Once again can't speak too much about how often he used it in Bham, but I don't think it was near as much as he did in Anaheim. I'm assuming since he's in the pen he realized you just go with your couple very best pitches. However, this guy could be the next Gagne, especially if he mixed in a decent change every once in a while. Of course the key to him will be command and health. I was just going off of what bham said since he's seen him pitch the most and he never mentioned the change but maybe since all of his other pitches were so impressive he jsut didn't feel need to mention it.
  7. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) I just think we need to forget about past middle infielders from Cleveland for a while. Uribe's more than sufficient enough for the 9 spot, IMO. Completely agree. The left side of our infield is to damn good to mess with.
  8. By the way the Vizquel-Schmidt rumor is from the southtown. Not sure exactly what it says but I know it's from there.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Gah...I know you're not suggesting it, and I don't know who is, but Omar Vizquel?!? :puke Very good player, just to many years on that contract.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) uh, yeah he does, he has a plus change. I'm pretty sure he got rid of that once he became a reliever. From what I know he's mostly been throwing fastballs, curveballs and working on a sinker.
  11. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Its one of those grinderball commercials with the guy from 'That 70's Show'...and in addition to mentioning 'wetting themselves', he recommends chanting 'Go Go Go' everytime Pods gets on base...something they did in 1959 when they were the 'Go-Go Sox' I must have been spacing out because I missed that whole commercial
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Umm.. anyone else just hear the Pods commerical on AM1000...?? Did the guy say something about "wetting yourself" at the end of it..?? If so I missed it.
  13. Good stuff. Scotty just talking about how greatful he is, says great group of guys in the clubhouse. Would like to talk to Carlos in Detroit, talked about how good a hitter Clee is. Then talked about the Brewers youngins for a bit. Overall it sounds like he's just very happy and he didn't think he had a shot when the ballots were first released.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) I think he is the closer of the future however, he has closer stuff that people drool over. He has a nasty curve, a GREAT fastball, and we havent even seen his plus change yet. The guy is hard to hit hard, and he can close games for us. Imagine him coming in after 6 innings of El Duque, the ball will look like its going 200, or after shingo like yesterday. Those guys couldnt even see the ball. Awesome. We haven't seen his plus change because he doesn't have a change.
  15. There is no doubt. For the last 3 days there has been much less b****ing and moaning as a whole. Honestly, as a Sox fan yesterday was such a perfect day and at this point how can you b****?? 10.5 game lead, we got scotty in the ASG, everythings just awesome right now.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) Boers and Bernstein are blowhard jackasses. Anyone who doesn't support what we did for Pods can go f*** themselves. Some people love that show but I listened to them a few times last year when silvy and carm did have this time slot yet and the wind sock had it and I couldn't stand them. They're just assholes but that's jmo.
  17. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) I really like Boers and Bernstein, personally. Summary of the interview, please? I'll give a summary once he comes on.
  18. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) Silvy and Carmen have a really interesting show. I like how WMVP gave them a show for me to wake up to...its really interesting. I love their show. It's my favorite radio show and that includes M,J, and H.
  19. Just a heads up, Scotty will be on Carmen and Silvy sometimes during the 11:00 hour if you guys are interested.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) "People close to Bret Boone have been told by the Seattle Mariners second baseman that the Twins would be his first choice if he is traded or becomes a free agent, as expected. Boone, 36, always has been impressed by the way the Twins play and that they have been in the playoffs three consecutive years. Boone believes he would be a terrific fit and would be greatly motivated to play for the Twins." -benmaller.com Him and Juan Rincon could be best friends.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) That's $100,000 total. Math is fun! You used a calculator for that, didn't you?
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) Great post as you've mentioned a few things I'm sure a lot of us were thinking. Redman really is a guy I'd love to have. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but he should also have some post-season expierence should he not? However, I don't know if we can paint with a broad brush and say the longer you have to wait to make a trade, the harder it is to pry certain players away. In fact, I'd have to argue it's the opposite--at least some of the time. If Kenny were to go ahead and try to trade for that coveted starter now, he would have a much more difficult time that waiting until the deadline when some teams may be looking to sell. It's like Hawk said, now, it's all about patience and waiting for exactly the right moment to make the deal. I think the days of the drastic fire-sale may be few and far between. With teams like Col, Pit, TB, Cin, etc. looking towards the future with a pretty good core of young guys--acquire via PAST deadline moves--they may not be looking to sell save nasty contracts, free agents, and such. Redman's era the last 4 years: 4.21 3.59 4.71 3.76 Can you guess which two years were in the al??
  23. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) The other interesting thing about this year is that the teams that have been the sellers recently, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Detroit and to a lesser extent Baltimore, Toronto and Cleveland, are all closer to contending this year or down the road with the prospects they've received. So no one knows if they are going to trade players or keep them. Mark Redman is a great example. I would love to get this guy. He has finally learned how to pitch, but do the Pirates want to lose him. They have the makings of a pretty good rotation with him, Wells, Van Bent...Bento...you know the guy. And a good nucleus with Jason Bay, Craig Wilson, Jack Wilson and Mackowiak. I know Kenny likes to make a big splash early, but it makes me nervous because teams are probably going to wait longer which means it will take more to pry a player away. The easiest teams to pry someone away from would be KC, Colorado and Tampa Bay...but are there any players on Colorado or TB that we would want? Mark Redman is a perfect example of prospering from the national league. He's a very good pitcher in the nl and an average pitcher in the al.
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) The count pitched better last night, but lets not go overboard here before we declare him ready for the 2nd half. This guys MO for years has been he looks great against crappy teams, then craps the bed against good teams. He will face the RedSox this month. Lets see what he does against them. I still am not comfortable with him starting any playoff games. I've said before I'm perfectly fine with him being the 4th starter and he's a pretty damn good 4th starter but I wouldn't want him being a playoff starter either.
