QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) I told my brother that Thomas would K as soon as he went 2-1. It seems all he can do is hit solo shots. Time for Konerko to be huge. The 2-1 pitch was way low and the strikeout pitch was just nasty there wasn't much Frank could do.
-
That was nasty.
-
Frank getting strikes called on him like he's 4'2"
-
Iguchi lays down a beautiful bunt, pablo on 3rd with 1 out, cmon drive him in big man.

1st and 3rd 2 outs. Big out here, cmon Mark.
-
There you go Mark, 2 runs now shut 'em down

Well Schmidt's being hit around a bit. This is what I see: His stuff is there fastball is between 91 and 94 so not 95 or 96 but he's got a ton of movement on it, he's also throwing a nasty splitter and a late breaking curve ball. It's just one of those days for Schmidt he's getting hit around because he's falling behind a bunch of hitters. Personally just watching him for the first few innings I'd love to have the guy if the price is right but jmo.

Guys Scott isnt a platoon player. We have 4 really good outfielders and Scott has sat out the least out of all of them since we've had this good problem. Anyways, wow to Frank, that was nuts.

Loaiza knows a winner when he sees one

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) He was putting guys on base, but his WHIP was low because no one can touch him when he's throwing his forkball and fastball for a strike consistently. Hell he could walk a ton of guys and still have a low WHIP because his stuff is just that damn good. I know for a while there he had one of the lowest BA against in the majors. Too bad he doesn't use it effectively consistently. That's the thing though even if he'd walk a guy here or there, there still wasn't a ton of guys on base because he didn't allow very many hits. -

QUOTE(My Left White Sock @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) But you can't just count the good stretches. Well you said even when he was going good he was putting a lot of men on base and that wasn't true. -

QUOTE(My Left White Sock @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) I think thats a great reason to not go with Jose. I am just not falling in love with Contreras' stuff and ignoring the fact that he's remarkably inconsistent and has yet to put together a good major league season. How stupid do you have to be to pitch like Jose? Keep it out of the zone so everyone walks, don't listen to your catcher, get hammered. Seriously you would think all he needs to do is look at his results to realize he needs to change his strategy on the mound. And I don't think even when his ERA was lower he was awesome. He is pretty much a six inning pitcher because he is inefficient with his pitches and he always finds ways to put runners on base. Actually before this last string of starts he was top 20 in the majors in whip so that's not entirely true. -
Well Schmidt is pitching today so nothing will happen today most likely. I'm going to follow his start on mlb.tv while watching the sox game.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) I agree, I'd rather have Jose. However, he needs to get his confidence back and take the sign from AJ and throw the damn ball. It seems Duque and Contreras are the two guys who have a hard time listening to AJ's game-calling and those are the two guys who routinely get into trouble. If I am Ozzie I tell both of these guys to never shake off AJ, throw the ball and shut the f*** up. (End of rant.) Oh god, I couldn't agree more. It's the most frusterating thing in the world to see a guy who doesn't know what the hell he's doing out there shaking off one of the best game calling catchers in baseball. -
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) Apparently, Sporting News Radio has said that the Sox are close to acquiring Schimdt. Just saw it over at BTF, thought I'd let you guys know. Any details Keith??? Thanks for the info.

QUOTE(My Left White Sock @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) Based on what exactly? Did you see Contreras' last start? Yes I saw Contreras's last start, he hasn't been good 3 of his last 4 starts but before that he was literally awesome. Esteban's numbers aren't to much better then Jose and he plays in the nl and plays at RFK which is a pitchers park. Bring him to the al and have him pitch at the cell and his era is probably around where it was last year, jmo. -

QUOTE(My Left White Sock @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I wouldn't mind having Loaiza in the four spot instead of Contreras. I still don't get that deal, taking on a guy with no record of success and a big contract. I wish Esteban the best and I'd be glad to face him this year however I do believe he'd be much worse then Contreras if he was still around. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) 6/11 - Cleveland - 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R(6 ER), 3 BB, 7 K 6/17 - @Detroit - 8 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K 6/22 - Arizona - 8 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K 6/28 - @Arizona - 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R(3 ER), 3 BB, 6 K Definately can't like his WHIP of 2 in his last start. I don't think trading for him would be wise at all, unless the package was understandably cheap. The risk/reward is far, far too great for me atleast to consider making the deal for what you'd have to give up. The reward is huge...he returns to dominance of 03, or atleast returns to being very good, ala 02 and 04, and it would be a crying shame if we didn't win the series(because with a 1-4 of Buehrle-Garcia-Schmidt-Garland in any order, you have no reason to lose any type of series). The risk is could be far greater though...giving up 2 top prospects for what could a disaster...Schmidt being worse than Duque, along with the Sox being stuck with an unbelievably bad contract while hurting in the future for young players. The contract isn't that big of a deal, he has a team option after this year with a 3 or 3.5 mill buyout.
