5/4 games
QUOTE(bulokis @ May 4, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Great to see malone pitching well. My sentiments exactly, it would be awesome to see Corwin somehow make it.

Most Overrated Players
Scott may be one of the more underrated players on the team.

Reasons for Konerko slump
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 4, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Regardless of his hip you can watch his swing, his issue has nothing to do with quickness. He's still turning on fastballs like usual, but he's failing to go with the pitches. The main reason is he's having trouble recognizing them (especially the changeup down and away) and he's also a little greedy (which is unlike Paulie). Simply put he's trying to pull everything and your gonna have a hell of a time doing much anything when thats the case. Watch him start going opposite field and you'll start seeing him get back on his groove. He has hit the ball hard though, he's just been too quick. Basically his timing is off a bit on-top of him trying to pull everything. Bingo.

Reasons for Konerko slump
QUOTE(Steff @ May 4, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Next time you get to a game.. try to be down by the section 144 - 147 area.. watch him warm up. Watch him walk. It's the same exact swagger as Belle... Paul is not going down as fast as Albert did.. but he's definitely worse than he was last year. Steff, I'm not arguing with you but he still can turn around a fastball. Maybe he doesn't trust that hip causing him to cheat more then he has to??

Reasons for Konerko slump
QUOTE(Steff @ May 4, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Ha, I knew that was coming from you But it's true, most of the time he's able to clear his hip so quickly that he can just adjust to the fastball when he's not looking for it.

Reasons for Konerko slump
It's the same problem it seems he always has one he's slumping, he's pulling off the ball, openig his left shoulder up to quick. Right now the down and away off speed pitch is getting him every time and when he gets a fastball he's to quick and is pulling it way foul. He needs to try and work the ball to right and right center, if he starts doing that he'll just react to the fastball and still be able to hit it hard because he can get his hips open real quick to get to a good fastball. Pauly needs to just stop cheating and try to hit the ball to the opposite field, if he does so he should get back in the swing of things soon.

Spankmes living up to their name
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 3, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) $208,306,817. Whether or not they get back in this thing, just looking at their roster for that kind of funny is just hilarious.

Impressed by Iguchi?
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 3, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) HAHAHAHAH no, I only call a Paulie homer ever time he steps up, probably why he is in a slump right now Start calling double plays even if no one is on base

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 3, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) Almost ten million exactly. We are currently 13th i believe in pay roll. Thank you. I rest my case, people are going to the park more and more. This team will surpass the attendance mark from last year and maybe pretty easily. We averaged more in this years April then last years and the Yankees series was in April last year. When the weather heats up the park will fill up more and we'll also start stealing some casual fans away from the urinal as we keep winning and the flubs don't.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) And I believe, the payroll has increased marginally too every year (in accordance with attendance increase). I remember JR willing to increase payroll to get Bartolo and even to re-sign Maggs in the near past. qwerty I'm looking for you to help me out with this one, how much did payroll go up from this year to last, about 10 mil?

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) I'm sorry if this response has been beaten to death but this topic has been beaten to death. If you weren't at the game tonight, you have nothing, absolutely nothing to complain about, if you want the attendance to go up get your ass to the ballpark.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) You may not give a f***, but if you really cared about the long term success of this team, you would too. If there is one GUARANTEE about the Sox, it is that their payroll is directly proportional to the attendance and that is NOT going to change. And yes, higher payroll DOES NOT always equate to success, but with Kenny as our GM, I would love to see our team with a 100M payroll some day. As hard as he works, he would end our ineptness if he had that kind of payroll, no doubt in my mind. Higher payrolls do give you a better chance to win. The Pirates and Brewers and Royals have never won anything in the recent memory because of that very reason. So again, if you really cared about the Sox, you would give a f*** about the attendance. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we keep Frank here next year or not. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we sign Garland long term or not. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we re-sign Paulie long terms or get a big bat to replace him or not Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we go finding the next Jimenez or Royce Clayton or Uribe instead of ARod or not. So STFU if you have no clue. Timeout buddy, you make it seem like fans aren't coming up. You say the payroll is linked to the attendance(which I agree with) and the attendance has been raised every year for what the last 3-4 years?? So what the hell does that tell you?

Would you take this trade?
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I was offered Carlos Zambrano for Michael Young. I am stacked as SS with Reyes, O. Cabrera, Feliz, Figgins, & Young. So it looks like a good trade, but I hate having Cubs on my team. Should I see if I can get more for one of those guys? I'd do that in a heartbeat.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Maybe we better start accepting the idea that Ozzie may know more about baseball than all of us? That's unpossible

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) I live in Chicago and if it wasn't for my last final tommorow, I would've been there. Well there ya go, you had something to do. A lot of us have good reasons why we can't be at the ball park every night. I would have loved to be out there tonight, I'd love to be out there for every game, problem is I'm a high school student whose parents don't like baseball and I need to pay for all my tickets by myself. I bought the ozzie package and whenever I have money I go to extra games outside that package. Most of us go to as many games as possible, unfortunately there are other reasons that not every game can be attended.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Nice job posting me out of context ....why don't you post the entire post :rolly "I hope this improves. If we cannot improve attendance with what we have on the field this year, I seriously think JR should pack up and go somewhere else. WTF is the point?" Ok, sorry about that, I actually didn't mean to do that. But honestly if you mean the sox should move then you deserve a big F YOU.

Weaker Teams = More Wins For The Sox
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Here are the stats against division opponents I considered weak in the past few years. 2000 vs. KC 5-7 vs. DET 9-3 vs. MIN 7-5 2001 vs. KC 14-5 vs. DET 13-6 2002 vs. KC 11-8 vs. DET 12-7 vs. CLE 9-10 2003 vs. DET 11-8 vs. CLE 11-8 2004 vs. DET 8-11 vs. KC 13-6 We usually handle KC pretty well. I would say they're our only weak divisional opponent this year and we look pretty good against the "strong" ones too so far. Ya, the freakin Tigers always seem to give us problems, so far not this year, hopefully that continues. I mean, how many games did Detroit win in 03, 9??

Jon Garland
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) I wouldn't go too far about that... I know I mentioned a couple of times how Jon's numbers were better than guys like Kris Benson who got huge money in the off season, and that we might be surprised at how much they would get in this market. Right, he's definitely better then some guys who got ludicrous contracts this offseason(Benson and Milton) the problem with signing him to a long term contract before the season is Mr. Mccarthy. Brandon's going to be in the rotation next year and some people were thinking that, that could have been at the expense of Jon. The sox have a lot of starting pitching options and decisions to make this upcoming offseason, should be interesting.
