  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) How do you figure? What GM could do a better job of cleaning up a dumbf***'s mess in less than two years time? There's no risk in any of the moves AA has made. If they workout, which some already have, they win. If they don't, they still win. Because there's nobody that's going to be a burden on their payroll long-term. Just cleaning up their financial mess doesn't make him the best gm in the league. As I've said, on paper it appears that he's doing a tremendous job so far, but there's still a high possibility that some of these players he's acquired do end up busting. If that happens then a couple years from now these moves can look completely different than they do now.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) No, we've seen enough. If I was a DA, I'd have more than enough sufficient evidence to present my case to the grand jury. We'd no doubt go to trial, in which case I'd be going up against Andrew Friedman's lawyer. You're seriously being ridiculous with this. A guy can not be the best gm in baseball until he wins something, anything. Could a case be made in a few years? Possibly but there's just no possible argument right now to be made that he's the best gm in the game.
  3. AA's moves look great on paper but it certainly doesn't mean all of them are going to end up being fantastic. Until he wins something, it's impossible to call him the best gm in the game, just doesn't make sense.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) And if I was going to judge Pierre by OBP amongst all left fielders, there are almost 15 with lower OBP's. I'm using OBP since Pierre is a leadoff hitter and in my eyes that is the best way to evaluate leadoff hitters. Of course, I will point out my analysis is flawed to an extent since some of the other left fielders have other strengths not related to OBP. However, of those 14 worse left fielders from an OBP perspective, only 2 have 800+ OBP's (Seth Smith - Colorado & Nelson Cruz - Texas). Now that's impressive.
  5. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Their record simply hasn't piss-poor for most of the season. I don't know how to qualify it further. It's remarkable that so many baseball fans will scream SAMPLE SIZE!!!! and TREND!!!! when it's convenient to their argument, but then ignore their importance when it comes to something they disagree with. Looking at their aggregate record and evaluating it against their payroll feels myopic to me. For almost 3/4 of this season, they have been winning at a rate within 4-5 games of what many people expected them to win at (I feel as though most people expected a win rate of 93-94 games). A .550 winning percentage for half a season's worth of games. Disappointing? I guess maybe slightly. I never expected them to win at some superhuman rate, like they put up during interleague last year. I did expect them to bounce back from a horrid april and compete, and they have done so. 8 over for the last 80 feels about right to me and certainly doesn't fit "piss-poor". You can't just throw out a month of the season though. April counts unfortunately and the season as a whole has been piss poor, there is no doubt.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) More amazing than that is the group that hates everything to do with this team, yet is watching all of these games and spending a ton of time bellyaching about it. If it is that bad, walk away. Wait, really? I hate everything to do with this current team but I always have and will love the White Sox. Unfortunately my love for the team wont let me just walk away and most die hards can't do it, no matter how f***in frustrating and annoying this current group is.
  7. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) We registered our kids for school yesterday and we had assumed that our oldest would be taking Driver’s Ed sometime this year. Turns out since she is one of the younger kids in her class (turns 15 in 9 days) and there are way too many kids in the school district, she doesn’t. We talked to a counselor and there are about 20 kids ahead of her also waiting. But they base it on age so if 20 more kids show up and they are older, they get first dibs. Our only options are either 1) summer school next year 2) an independent driving school at nearly twice the cost or 3) simply waiting to see if an opening shows up before the second semester of school. The first two options require us finding transportation to and from as well. I’m torn because the driving school would be more expensive but she could get all her required driving time in by the time she turns 16. We just have to find a way to get her there for the classes. But there’s still that slight chance that some kids might drop driver’s ed for one reason or another and she could get it through school. Ya, I had the same problem when I was going through the process since I was one of the younger kids in my grade. I went the independent route and it was well worth it. When you're 15 going on 16, waiting that extra time will kill you, all you want to do is get your license.
  8. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) I've been saying this for months. People act like a f***ing trade in professional sports is giving them physical pain every time the guy pitches well. He's gone. Deal with it. It's just baseball. You came in the Dan Hudson thread, what the hell were you expecting?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 06:51 AM) His Career Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) numbers hang just above 4. Yeah, he gets benefits from Petco, but he's still a reasonable back of the rotation guy. 1.5 WAR pitcher the year we traded him, 2.3 WAR pitcher last year. Honestly, in this situation some of those stats can get thrown out the window. When your era has been over 5 the last 2 seasons in the NL away from Petco, you're just not that good.
  10. To me nothing about this team has been fun. We were still technically in the f***in race just a week ago and then we decide to completely f***in suck right as the trade deadline passes. I just despise this team, no fun yet.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) Clayton Richard isn't the #2 starter he looked like in San Diego, but he is a solid #3-4 guy in any rotation. No he's not. He's struggling to crack most rotations in the AL.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) So our great scouts can take a great second baseman prospect like Beckham? Much better chance of not f***in up when you have the 3 pick compared to the 8th(in Beckham's case) or the 10th or the 15th, you get the picture...
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Indeed. I'm a prospect guy though, and I'm all Dayan-ed out at this point. Ha, I hear ya. Gotta find something to be excited about in this system and at this point he's definitely the guy to look at besides Dayan.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) I'm pretty excited about him. The superlatives describing his stuff have been encouraging to say the least. His stats are mind boggling. It's hard to get overly excited about a reliever though.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:48 PM) For all those interested: 1. HOU 37-74 2. BAL 43-65 7.5 3. CHC 47-65 9.5 4. SDP 48-64 10.5 5. KCR 48-63 11 6. SEA 48-62 11.5 7. OAK 49-62 12 8. LAD 50-60 13.5 9. COL 51-60 14 10 MIN 51-59 14.5 11 CHW 52-58 15.5 12 WAS 53-57 16.5 13 CIN 54-57 17 14 PIT 54-56 17.5 15 FLA 55-56 18 16 NYM 55-55 18.5 We're closer to the #3 pick in the draft than we are the playoffs. Woo, lets do it!
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) To have him on your team, or have relations with him? This post is pretty vague. lol
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) no offense, but I can't imagine rooting against the white sox. I can see if it was one game and the difference between winning and losing was drafting a sure-thing prospect with the 1st pick...but rooting against them because maybe you don't like the coach/GM/certain players? Root against guys like Paul Konerko, Mark Buehrle and the team as a whole? I don't get it. I'd rather root for a 10 game winning streak that puts us right back in it. Look, I'm not sitting at my tv rooting against the Sox, I can't do that. And me calling for them to lose has nothing to do with the fact that I hate the gm/manager combo right now. But at this point, I do believe the best thing for this franchise as a whole would be for them to just lose every game. This team isn't going to the playoffs and if we were to hypothetically lose out, you get the best draft pick possible while guaranteeing the organization goes in a new direction as far as the gm and manager are concerned. Best possible option.
  18. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) The broken foot is valid reasoning enough to let being busy sneak under the rug. Good to hear it's not discouraging you from scratching the effort altogether. If you're still in the burbs, we should meet up sometime soon for some kind of workout or race. It would be times of good. Ya, definitely. You still in arlington heights?
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) why? you're not seriously rooting for loss I think it's to the point where I actually am. Losing the most amount of games is probably the best possible thing for this organization right now.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) Except for more speed and a stronger arm, Vick and Tebow have similar styles. Both have had limited touch and both are/were run-first QBs. Tebow is quick for a QB, very strong, and smart. If he works on his touch, he can have an equivalent to Orton's arm and be okay. Yaaaa except the two differences you mentioned are EXTREME differences.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) Whether you like him as a manager or not, you would have to admit drinking with Ozzie would probably be a riot. I wouldn't trust myself in such a spot.
  22. I pretty much live in bucktown on the weekends, I hope I never run into him.
