Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) The Rangers are afraid to move Feliz to the rotation because he was so good in relief. But they have a stocked system with premium pitching 'spects like Perez and Scheppers. I know I'm a pessimist now. I can admit that. I drank the last of my 2005 kool-aid when we trotted Mark Kotsay out there and traded our top pitching prospect for a year and two months of Javy the sequel. I just think they're not going to want to move him if he does indeed flourish. Which I expect he will. We're going to need a starting pitcher next season and he's for sure going to get the first chance, I'm positive on this. People need to remember that he's still 21(turning 22 next month) and this is going to be his first full season in professional baseball, it's not like he's been stuck in the minors for 4 season with out a chance to prove he can be a starter. He has a ton of value to our bullpen right now and not so much to our rotation. He belongs in our bullpen this season, and he deserves a shot to crack the rotation next year. As Wite said, if he's not given an opportunity to start next year than you guys have a right to complain and I guarantee you a lot more of us will be right there with ya.

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
BTW, Albert's just going to have a monster year(even by his standards), he looks to be in better shape than usual and now that he's playing for a contract, watch out.

Buehrle vs. Vick
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) I'll be glad when he takes his ass back to Missouri. Go pitch for the Cardinals. FMB. Laughable. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) Once again, he should just man up and say that its his opinion and his entitled to it. Not sure how you want him to "man up" anymore. The guy has stuck by his opinion throughout even when there's been a bit of backlash by some people.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) I can see it now. "Sale was so good in relief, why mess with a good thing?" Jackson is good as gone. Mark is a FA. Peavy will be high risk for as long as we have him. We don't want to give Danks the years it will require to lock him up. And our best SP prospect is Jacob Petricka. That's a whole lotta fail. And you just made the exact point on why Sale will indeed be tried out as a starter next season.

Buehrle vs. Vick
Once again, Mark's awesome.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) Yeah, OK. The Sox have 5 good starters, even if one is a question mark at this point, and setting a role for Sale is a good thing. If they leave him in the bullpen next year, THEN you have a legitimate beef. Yes... QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) I don't think so. Ozzie is going to want 2 lefties aside from his closer, and the odds are very, very good that one of Thornton and Sale is closing - I'd say around 98% that one of those two closes. And, for $1.5 mill this year and $2.5 mill next year, I'd rather have a 2nd (3rd) lefty that actually has pretty good stuff opposed to the s*** they've been throwing out there. ...and yes.

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) If the latest information is even close to true, and the Cards were only offering $19-21 million, Pujols should break off negotiations. That is an absolute bush league offer, relatively speaking of course. You are talking about one of the very best hitters we've ever seen, he should be, at the very least, among the top 2-3 highest paid players in the game. I agree. I completely understand the Cards not wanting to go to 10 and 300 and it would make sense to me if they feel the best way for their franchise to go is to not tie up 20-25 percent of their payroll in Albert, however, making him that kind of offer(if true) is just insulting.

*Official* Work Out Thread
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) The Spartacus workout looks interesting. I might try that out soon. I've been working out for several months doing the same stuff - some cardio and some weights. I use a lot of the machines at my gym, and a few free weights. I never really worked out in my life up until this point, so without any real training, I've kind of made up my own workout and adjusted it or mixed it up as I see fit as I go on. Is using a lot of machines bad? Should I be doing more or only free weights? Do you guys do cardio and weights in the same day every time, or do one or the other certain days? I usually do both. Do you do cardio before weights, vice versa, or mix it up? I am not looking to bulk up a ton - just stay in shape, add some muscle, stay healthy - I don't need to focus on losing any weight at all. Rock/others I'm interested in some of the stuff you might present here. Machines definitely aren't bad they're just different. They help you a little bit more with your lifting so you're not exactly lifting as much weight as you would with free weights that are listed with the same poundage. I've been doing cardio and weight training the same day for a while now, I'm sure you'll find a variety of opinions on whether that's a good thing to do or not. Weights before cardio And for you the main thing is going to be to eat and eat a lot. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) That was all about diet for me. Lose the alcohol as well. My diet for the most part is pretty fantastic minus one or two cheat meals a week. And I'm sure this will get some laughs from a few of you guys but I really only drink one night a week now so ya I know if I'd completely give up alcohol it'd help but I like my social life too much to entirely rid myself of it. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) And pop. It's amazing how many calories you save not drinking pop and alcohol. Cut pop out a long time ago. All I really drink is water and skim milk.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) What are you doing now? Do you workout at the gym? What kind of core work do you do? If someone uses a gym where they have kettle bells, i could really help you blast some of the core muscles you probably aren't working focusing on abs. I'll try to draw yo a diverse 45 min circuit that some folks could use/modify for a cardio/shredding workout. I work out at the gym and at home. I have been basically doing 3 day cycles between arms/legs/core with a 4 mile run everyday. Do that 6 days a week. It's worked great to lose a ton of weight and get me in good shape but this last bit of a belly fat is just f***in annoying.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) The calorie counter on an eliptical is an estimate and shouldnt be taken as reality. Furthermore your body is going to start getting used to that exercise since it only uses a certain muscle group and your progress will taper off. I would use half your workout on that and half on some circuit training incorporating some weights or body weight exercises. That will be much more effective that just the eliptical for an hour to lose weight. I would be more than happy to contribute some exercises for a good 30-45 min circuit to burn calories and fat. I'm interested in some other circuits to possibly run. I've had such a ridiculous work out for the last 4 or so months and I'm just getting tired of it. I'm ready to try something new as I continue to get in better shape performance wise but I can't seem to lose the last bit of fat around the stomach that is keeping the abs more hidden than I want.

Comcast Sports Net out of town?
Ya, the blackout rules are horrendous. Sox games blacked out in Carbondale, are you kidding me?

Any Ideas why Major Networks Dislike The Sox?
We just don't have a cute little story to go along with us. We were never cursed, we're not lovable when we lose, we're usually in contention but we're not consistently great. It's that simple really, we're just an above average franchise who apparently isn't too fun to talk about, just wait until Ozzie is gone, we'll really never get mentioned unless we're winning championships.

Sox to go with four man rotation to start the season?
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) Are you suggesting we sign Jarod? I hear he's in the best shape of his life. Trips over his pants a lot though while on the mound.

Kanter is definitely going top 10. Perry Jones has a lot higher of an upside than Tristan imo. Thompson is solid but there's definitely guys I'd take above him even in this weak class.

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) There's a lot of things worth replying to here. 1. Won't the Cardinals be crippled for 5-ish years if they don't sign Albert? 2. If he were to leave...I have difficulty thinking that the response would be a Lebron-like response, barring a TV special of some sort. Leaving for more money is one thing; people would be just as angry at management for not offering him the deal that he got elsewhere as they would be at him for taking it. 3. (A question I can't answer)...how much does team revenue drop if that team falls back to the back of the division for 3-4 years while they rebuild, loses LaRussa, and has to deal with Holliday's contract being their big mistake? They don't have the pieces to do a rapid reload if they lose Albert unless they sell Wainright, Carpenter, and Rasmus. They wouldn't have to rebuild at all though. They'd still have a very nice rotation in place and have a lot of extra money to work with to fill Albert's void and still be able to fill whatever else they need to at the time.

Sox to go with four man rotation to start the season?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) We have no sixth starter. Our fifth starter is hurt. Not many teams have six major league ready pitchers in their system. Ya no s***, someone is still mad about the Adam Dunn signing for some reason. Anyways, the more and more we hear, it sounds like the Sox are counting on Peavy to be out for about a month to start the season here.
