QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) That'd be a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE addition. What? A Juan Pierre jersey to J4L's collection?

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) I agree, Utah State has definitely carved its niche as a 20-25th ranked team even though they don't beat anyone. Everyone knows that I'm a mid major guy but if they don't win the WAC tourny, there's no way in hell they deserve an at large, but they'll probably slide in like UTEP did last year but unlike last years Miners, Utah State doesn't even pass the eye test. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) and I'm confident they wouldn't win 6 games in one of the bigger conferences. That's an exaggeration but ya Utah State really isn't all that great, that I agree with you on. That's one of the few times you'll see an overrated mid major, mostly because Utah State has definitely earned a reputation the last few years. -
HS pitcher cut because he cant field bunts
Rowand44 replied to zenryan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) I dont know how tryouts are done in other places but when I went to school there, there was one tryout. Kids who played for the team before didnt tryout but new kids did. Then you were either placed on varsity or JV. And for your second point, that is why you put the kid in certain situations. I wouldnt put him in if it was 4-3 in the late innings. But if it was 7-0 in the last inning, why not let him finish it off. And the head coach is the one implying teams would bunt every time in order to take advantage of the kid. The head coach was searching for an out and found one in cutting this kid. I'd say it's decently important to be able to move around the mound a bit. I obviously don't know if the coach was looking for a way to get rid of him but he certainly shouldn't just keep him on the team because he's disabled and from the sounds of it that's what this article is implying. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) You can have it, pm me your address Damn it, that would have went great with my collection that consists of Esteban Loaiza.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) He did, but Michael Jordan came back. It is a shame when/if a player drives a coach like that out of a job. Don't care how good he is. Well ya, you know what I meant.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) I personally think Sloan should've been fired years ago. I'm sorry. You shouldn't get job security for life when you've won absolutely nothing. You would think all the years he's been coaching and all the quality teams he's had he would've won one title by accident. He never had a team to win a title, he just didn't.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) I wear pajama pants sometimes when I'm shopping. I've never gone out in full lounging attire, though. I got out in pajama pants all the time when I'm just running to the store. I couldn't care less what the hell I look like when I just need to pick up a few things.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) There are a lot of people, including myself, that disagree. I've honestly never even heard this argument before. It's quite wild to me.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Like I said before, if Im given the choice between being tortured to death or being shot to death, Im going to take the none of the above option. The entire idea of humane killing is nothing more than a human invention to try and make us feel better about the simple fact that murder is murder, death is death. That's pretty crazy. I've never hunted in my life and never intend to but there's certainly a difference between being tortured and just dying quickly. Huge difference.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) A great start would be to substantially reduce animal products from your diet. And let me speak for most of the population when I say f*** that.

Mark is awesome, Vick is a piece of s***. The end.

I know it's almost damn impossible at this point but you guys are about to make this a filibuster thread so be careful.

QUOTE (Ron @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Always thought Mark was a classy guy. This comment was far from that. Should've just kept it to himself. Vick paid his debt to society, regardless of what you think of the crime. Does Mark get as mad about a Ray Lewis or a Donte Stallworth, athletes who killed people? I'd bet not. Mark is a class guy, he was probably asked about Vick and he said what was on his mind. If he was asked about Stallworth or Lewis, he might have said the same freakin thing.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) I think PECOTA must be thinking that Bostons starting 5 is going to get hurt more than the offense is going to help Added a word in there for you because if Boston's rotation is healthy, they're pretty damn good as well.
-
Beauty of soxtalk, every worthwhile tweet regarding the team, someone posts on here.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) PECOTA already projects the White Sox to have the best offense in baseball... no sense in adding Young to hurt our defense. That's just crazy talk. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) 2011 PECOTA has the Rays and Yankees at 98 and 100 wins. They have Boston at 88. I don't know what they're smoking over there at BP. The Sox are at 89 wins. WTF?

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) The last 3 minutes of Tosh.O are amazing! Wasn't the best Tosh but it was still solid.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) Are we talking Situation Vocab, or Pauly D type of vocab here? "IT'S T-SHIRT TIMEEEEEE!!!!!!!" I think everyone who watches the show is guilty of at least mocking the Pauly D vocab every now and than.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Justin can correct me on this but Booker had no issues off court with SIU as far as I'm aware. I don't blame the guy for leaving with the way CLo is flushing the program down the toilet. Booker's issues was his foul trouble. Correct. -
As for the Bulls, the last week or so now they've really been exposed down low defensively. I'm definitely ready for Mr. Noah to come back.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) I realize I'm way late to this party, but I'd say Kyrie Irving can be a pretty solid PG if he gets over that weird toe injury and Perry Jones, while raw, has a ton of potential. Some might also say Enes Kanter, who hasn't played this year but supposedly destroyed the US big men (including Sullinger) at the Nike Hoops Summit. There's certainly no slam-dunk savior at the top though. If I have the number 1 pick he's by far and away the guy I'm taking. Like you said, he's far from a sure thing but I love his upside.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) Whatever happened to Barnes? Maybe Cavs suck next year (ok, they will suck next year) and can snag Barnes then. His draft stock has slipped since he's had a down year compared to what people thought he'd do. He'll still be a top 10 pick when he comes out(whether that's this year or next) but he's no longer the consensus 1 like he was before the season started.

Everything against USI was before Watson got there, he was hired to clean up the program. Like I said, I don't know a ton about him as a basketball coach but from all reports he's about as classy as they come. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Who's Rodney? Rodney Watson. Assistant for SIU forever then went to Southern Indiana and has been the head coach there for a couple years now. He's been absolutely dominant at USI but he had Jamar Smith last year and a pretty damn talented team for a D2 school. No clue what the talent looks like this year but these obviously aren't all players that he recruited in, so it's hard to get a good read obviously. To be honest, I just don't know enough about him to make an informed opinion.. That being said, Brian and I have talked about this and the one thing we both agree on is that we want SIU to actually hold a national coaching search and not just automatically stay in the SIU family like they've done for years now.
