Snowmageddon 2011
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) p**** storm. Although it allowed me to go to Girl and the Goat with no issue tonight as well as drive to a few bars. Thank you blizzard. Heard there were some bars running some crazy deals tonight in the city. If only I wasn't so far f***in north I definitely would have made an effort to get down there.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) I'd still be deeply disappointed if the Bulls were looking for a 2 guard in the draft (in the sense that I'd be disappointed if they realized they had a shot at a title right now and they didn't go for it in the trade market). Right and that's why I said at this point, things can obviously change. That being said, Klay Thompson would be the absolute perfect fit at the moment, if he comes out and if he's around for the Bulls pick which are both very possible. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) Curry's a better shooter, but Jimmer is a much better driver and finisher. He'll go way before pick 20, IMO. Curry is also a better passer which helped him adapt to the NBA pg position quicker than it might take Jimmer to. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) There are a lot of people who doubted Adam Morrison too... The only decent comparison of these guys is Curry and Fredette, Jimmer and Redick and Jimmer and Morrison aren't good comparisons at all.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) The question you've got to answer is...who is a better fit around pick 25? Which is obviously a fair point. At this point I'd take a chance on a guy with a bit of upside that can be a legit 2 guard in the league: Klay Thompson, Malcolm Lee, LaceDarius Dunn, someone like that.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
Curry has more ups and maybe a tad more lateral quickness, Jimmer is stronger and very underrated at getting to the hoop. Jimmer has a shot to be a solid NBA player, I just don't think he's a great fit for the Bulls.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) Stop crying about it. They don't know how to handle the situation? You know what, I think they're handling it perfectly. They're doing what is best for the team this year with the intention of having him return to starting duties next season. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean they don't know how to handle it. Exactly.

Freddy signs with NYY
QUOTE (since56 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) Watching him last year the eye test told me he was washed up by the end. His velocity got pathetic and a good hitter would wait for him to lay it in there. He is not a bullpen type so let the Yankees build an over the hill junk pile. I think everyone felt that way watching him but he still somehow managed to get hitters out. I'm certainly not his biggest fan at this point but he's definitely an upgrade over what we're going to have to throw out there until Peavy gets back.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Doubt he would be there when Bulls pick. There's a possibility he'll be there but no thanks if he is. Now if he was 4 inches taller and could be a legit 2 guard in the NBA than I'd be all for it but that's not the case.

Troy is the defensive MVP not the player of the year imo, if that makes sense.

TSN picks the Sox over the Tigers in ought 11
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) Lindy's also picked the Sox to win the Central. I'm pretty much half optimist, half pessimist with this team. I see upside and downside up and down the roster, especially with the every day lineup. I will say I don't think we can win the division without a healthy Peavy, even if it's for half a season, and without big-time bounce-back seasons from Beckham and CQ. Beckham being better and PK regressing are two certainties in my mind. Peavy and CQ are the definite X factors, mostly Peavy. We can live with Carlos putting up similar numbers to last season but we can't with Peavy on the dl for most of the season imo.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) That sucks, where did these occur? 90 percent of them seem to take place on West College. The party house we all hung out at a few years back was down there and literally the 2nd semester that year, every freakin weekend something crazy was happening. My one friend literally got beat up by 5 guys walking back home when they asked him if he was happy Obama won the election and he jokingly said "Who's Obama?" got jumped right there by all 5 of them while he was with his gf, f***in ridiculous.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) Personally, if I have 5 seconds left on the clock and I need 1 basket to win a game, I dunno about you guys, but I'd prefer the wide open dunk rather than the "Clutch" shot from outside. Of course. I'm just saying that if my team is down 1 with 10 seconds left and I need one player to have the ball, I want it to be Kobe Bryant, stats be damned.

So I was supposed to go back to Carbondale this weekend but I couldn't make it cause I couldn't get my car out of the garage(true story) but one of my best friends who was back there visiting got jumped and got his face all f***ed up, facial fractures galore. As much as I love that place it's gotten so ridiculous the last few years, unfortunately I can't even count the number of times my buddies and I have been jumped down there the last 2 or 3 years. My freshman and sophomore years, we never had any problems and all the sudden it became a weekly thing for someone in my group of friends to have to defend themselves from something ridiculous happening.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Makes me feel so much better. Coulda sworn we lost at home to them. All the loses run together. Ya I hear ya. I actually thought that game yesterday was supposed to be played today so I didn't follow it last night. That's just a sad realization to me as SIU basketball used to mean the f***in world to me and now it's to the point where I can't even get the day right when we play. It's bad.

Onto teams that actually matter now a days: Duke got taken apart today by SJU and the Jimmer mormons lost at the Pit last night which was a pretty easy upset to pick.

This is one of those things where I really couldn't care less what stats say, if I need a last second shot, Kobe Bryant is the one person I want shooting the basketball.
