Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread
So Nick Evans quit our bball team today. Not a big blow but that's now 8 players in the last 4 seasons that have either left or got kicked off the team. There's also rumors that Anthony Booker is thinking about transferring(now that would be a tremendous hit), our program is just in shambles right now. I can't believe Lowery still has a job at this point, he needs to be gone by the end of the season.

Morally ambiguous characters
I can't imagine any better examples than Dexter and Mackey. Great calls right there.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) And don't forget the Salukis at 5 on ESPN2....oh joy. So ESPN accidentally brought all their trucks and what not to Carbondale, too bad the game is at UNI. Whoops...

Super Bowl XLIV
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) I don't mean if they never drafted Manning, I mean, say he has a severe leg injury in the preseason at the beginning of this year. I'd say they'd be lucky to be 6-10, seriously. But anyways, I'm very indifferent on both of these teams. I guess I'm rooting for the Colts and I do think they'll win but I really couldn't care less.

This has to be the most depressing thread ever. Besides the stupid Jayhawks, nobody's team seems to be doing well this season.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 11:54 PM) Does SIU have any chance to be good next season?? I know Dillard only a sophomore so he should be back and I thought I remember a player from Minny or Wisconsin transferring over that was pretty good but dont know much else. Just transferred to Siu this year and dont know much about the athletics, always rooted for the Illini before. Hard to say. The talent is there but we're just so terribly coached so I can't give you a perfect answer here. To make a long asnwer short, yes we have a chance to be good, very good in fact but unless a coaching change is made, I'd expect a middle of the road Valley team. Now, if Lowery is replaced by a competent successor and everyone stays, I'd expect real big things from this group. Unfortunately, Lowery's not going anywhere so that point is moot. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) lol Arch Madness, gotta love the name. I haven't followed UNI as well this year since I graduated and left the area, but I was looking at their stats and they only get 10 assists per game, which seems REALLY low. I've only watched one game and they were pretty sloppy, which I understand is how they usually play this year. I don't expect them to do much in either Arch Madness or March Madness. Terrific defensive team. I wouldn't expect much more than a 1st round win in the NCAA's but if you get the right matchups, you never know.

Buehrle or Peavy on Opening Day?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) If the Sox went with a straight 5-man rotation with no one getting skipped, and assuming Buehrle and Peavy are 1 and 2, both would make 33 starts, while Danks, Floyd, and Garcia would get 32, and thus really doesn't mean as much. What I do think you'll see happen this year is Buehrle (and others too) occasionally getting skipped and having Garcia or Hudson starting in their place. Not to mention you can re-shuffle the rotation at the all star break. This is a no brainer, it's Buehrle.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) Maybe they could just have a play-in weekend. Take 16 of the "auto-bid" teams that never win and have them play down til four of them are left. The "winners" will have played for the right to get slaughtered by the #1 seeds. That'd be absolutely no fair to anyone. There aren't 16 conferences that are bad enough to do that. I'm sure Kansas would have loved to have faced Davidson in the first round a few years back or Western Kentucky the last few years or Cornell this year, etc etc etc It's perfect the way it is, leave it alone, the end.

Sox not adding a LH bat; looking at relief, Damon?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) I think he'd hit between 12-18 homers, score a lot of runs. Steal at least 20 because Ozzie wants to run. His SB were down last year he says because he didn't run in front of Texiera. He was 12-12 stealing. He can replace Getz' production there. Who knows, maybe when it gets serious, someone is willing to step up and pay him, but if he signs for $5-6 million total and the White Sox don't get involved, I think they would have made a mistake. Huge mistake. Putting a .360 or so obp guy in front of Becks would be huge for this offense.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 06:49 AM) http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?name=levine TIFWIW, Bruce Levine added yesterday that the sox weren't looking to add a lefty bat. That they passed on Delgado because they didn't think he could play the field. But they are watching the Damon situation to see if his price drops to a bargain level. Very interesting is that he said the sox are looking at middle relief. Thoughts? Our team does realize that the designated hitter doesn't play the field, right?

Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread
I've stayed away from this thread because I really can't stand this crap that's happening to our program. This is by far the most confused I've ever seen any team in any sport. I've never seen such a terribly coached team in any varitety of athletics before and I'm not even exaggerrating. Not to mention it sounds like something bad might be happening with this whole Teague situation, and unfortunately it might be more than him just missing this year. Lowery and the whole coaching staff needs to go. It's absolutely pathetic and f***in embarrassing.

The DH Quandry
I'm seriously pissed we couldn't have outbid Texas on a one year contract for Vlad. I just don't understand why we couldn't overpay for a one year deal.

Which team did you have higher expectations for?
QUOTE (Real @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Sounds to me that a lot of people here don't even have "high" expectations for this team, just "reasonable expectations" I don't see how anyone who pays attention to what other teams in this division are doing, can say we aren't the favorite as of right now to win this division Minnesota has Mauer, Morneau and to a lesser extent Kubel coming off a career year, moving outside of the metrodome (this fact seems to slowly become less acknowledged, and it's a huge factor in how their team will perform). They also have a starting rotation full of question marks. Which Nick Blackburn is the real one? Baker and Slowey are huge question marks as well. How will their team defense be affected by playing outdoors, especially in April and May when it's still cold Their bullpen also has question marks, outside of Nathan Detroit is trying to do what Kenny did last year, and that's rebuild on the fly. Dumping CG for cheap talent who may or may not perform well, given a starting position, and losing Rodney for Valverde. Their starting rotation is less questionable than Minnesota's due to having a true ace, and possible legit #2 , but Verlander (RHP) > Porcello (RHP) > ??? (Scherzer) > ??? (Bonine) > ??? (Bonderman) is going to most likely force their offense to score a lot of runs to win games, something we hopefully won't have to do If we sign a legit dh, I'm sure many people would have their personal expectations be a lot higher. If we get to the playoffs, we'll have a legit shot to win the Series imo but I'm not 100 percent convinced we'll get there just yet. As I said earlier, sign me a legit dh and I'll feel a lot better.

Which team did you have higher expectations for?
QUOTE (Real @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) It's not about predicting the staff would fall apart, and you have to admit.. baseball tends to average things out for guys who aren't perennial studs, like Garland and Contreras (and to an extend sweaty freddy...though freddy was pretty good early on in his career) I think Garland is really the only one that applies for. Garcia was around his career averages at the time in 05 and Contreras was becoming a stud until he got injured. To answer the question though, definitely 06. I love our starting staff but as has been said, the 06 team on paper was better than the team that just ran through the playoffs, the previous October.

Leno going back to Late Night
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Conan's monologue last night might possible be his greatest ever. Conan always seems to come through and be his funniest in hard times like this and the writers strike. Conan, Colbert and Stewart were just priceless during the writers strike. Bout two or three minutes in when Leno asks Kimmel about the best prank he's ever played on someone, hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axwO6BkCtIo
